Chapter 505.1: Fusing Blood (1)
Charlotte woke up to a starry night sky outside the window.
Her fuzzy mind was struggling to recall what had happened before she passed out, but she still instinctively realized that something was different about the sky. She stared hard at the twinkling stars while listening to the commotion outside the carriage.
A minute passed, and the confusion in her eyes slowly cleared up. A jolt ran through her body as some sort of realization dawned on her, causing her emerald eyes to widen in joy.
She knew nothing about the battle that had transpired outside, having only just awoken from her sleep, but the changes with her body wouldn’t lie. It had been a long time since she had felt the Primordial High Elf Bloodline as clearly as she did now. The terrifying monster she had seen prior to her sleep had also vanished without a trace.
Most important of all, she could feel her curse slowly disappearing.
These signs told her that her suffering was finally over. She was naturally reminded of the young man who had promised to grant her a new life before she passed out.
“Roel…”
Murmuring his name, she struggled to rise to her feet. Her movements immediately caught the maids’ attention, who excitedly rushed over and escorted her out of the carriage. Grace broke down in tears when she saw Charlotte, and the Rosaian guards cheered joyously.
To them, Charlotte’s recovery didn’t just guarantee the stability of the Sorofya House and the Rosa Merchant Confederacy; it was also a confirmation of Flooding Death’s demise. The relief they felt from surviving an encounter with such a frightening entity was a cause for celebration.
Despite the enlivened atmosphere, Charlotte didn’t seem too enthused at all.
She scanned the surroundings in search of Roel but to no avail. She asked Grace about the black-haired man’s whereabouts, and the latter pointed at the swirling black vortex in the far distance.
Anxiety started breeding in her heart, and she clenched her fists tightly.
It was also then that the ring she wore on her finger started to siphon her life force away. While it was an unfamiliar sensation to her, she immediately recognized the spell. After all, this was the spell that had been sustaining her for over the past month.
Her eyes widened in horror as she realized just what kind of condition Roel was in.
She immediately gathered and led Grace and the others toward the battlefield. She was planning to have them spread out and search for Roel, but she was soon forced to drop the idea.
The crowd stopped right before the vortex of curses revolving around the battlefield’s perimeter. Even Kurt and the others, who possessed the bloodline of ancient races, revealed fearful looks.
The gravesite of Flooding Death was not a place any humans could tread on. The curses would indiscriminately corrode anything that came into contact with it.
However, the threat of death didn’t slow Charlotte’s footsteps at all. Without any hesitation, she tightly wrapped herself with a layer of Golden Soul before charging right into the vortex of curses. She knew that she couldn’t afford to waste even a single second, or else she might lose her Roel for good.
The Rings of Symbiosis did allow the recovered Charlotte to share her life force with Roel, but that wouldn’t sustain him for long. Severe injuries could lead to a massive outflow of life force that even the rings couldn’t replenish in time. Once his life force dropped beneath a threshold, he would become a goner.
Charlotte felt like ants were gnawing at her heart, and the trepidation of losing her loved one made her eyes glisten.
She could vaguely sense Roel’s location through the connection of the rings, especially now that they were in proximity. The curses grew more concentrated the further she advanced, causing her face to swiftly turn pale despite only having just recovered from her affliction. Nevertheless, she paid it no heed and continued marching forward.
Eventually, she found the person she was looking for.

“Darling!”
By the time Charlotte found Roel, he was already on the verge of death. His consciousness was fading, and he was so weak that he couldn’t even utter a word. His complexion was so pale that it looked translucent.

It didn’t seem as if he was alive at all.
Seeing the state he was in, Charlotte couldn’t hold back her tears anymore.
She knew that she had to do something to save him. With trembling hands, she nervously checked on his condition. The results reflected the worst possible situation.
She couldn’t feel any mana from him, and his life force was practically dried up. He was barely surviving through the sustenance of life force via the rings.
Worst of all was his physical condition.
Roel had expended half of his body’s blood to bestow Grandar the ability to wield the power of his Crown’s Stones. The final explosion arising from his clash with Flooding Death had also blown off a good chunk of his body.
If he had any mana left, he might have been able to stop his body from losing more blood and stabilize his condition with the help of his ancient gods, but that was a big ‘what if’. By the time Charlotte arrived, he didn’t even have a third of his blood left.
“Darling, how did this happen…”
Charlotte felt as if the world was collapsing on her. She held Roel close to her trembling body as her tears rained down. Even high transcendents would be in mortal danger from losing half of their blood, but Roel only had a third of his blood left. That was more than enough to seal his fate.
She bit down on her lips, knowing that she had to do something.
Her initial plan was to bring Roel out to be treated, but she immediately dispelled that thought upon seeing his condition. Even the slightest rattle could possibly take his life, not to mention he wouldn’t even last that long.
I need to perform emergency treatment on him right now, but what can I do…
Charlotte racked her brain for a solution, but she couldn’t think of any spells that could reverse his condition. A gleam soon flickered across her eyes as an idea came into mind. She raised her arm and slit her wrist with her fingernail.
There was only one thing she could think of that might help him survive, and it was a common medical procedure back in Roel’s previous life—blood transfusion.
There were many reasons contributing to Roel’s current condition, but the most immediate problem was none other than his profuse loss of blood. Under such circumstances, it was much more effective to directly transfuse blood to him than to rely on spells.
There was no need to worry about their blood types as high transcendents had fundamentally different constitution from ordinary mortals due to the assimilation of mana. Their bodies were much more receptive to the blood of others, thus reducing the chances of a rejection.
Nevertheless, this was still going to be a dangerous procedure because of their exceptionally powerful bloodlines.
The more powerful a bloodline was, the less likely that it would coalesce with others.
There was a high chance that their bloodlines might reject each other, resulting in severe backlash to both of them. In the worst-case scenario, her High Elf Bloodline might even be crippled by his Kingmaker Bloodline.
It was unlike her to take uncalculated risks, but to save Roel, she unhesitatingly went ahead with it. There was nothing more important to her now other than saving the dying lover in her arms, and she was willing to put everything on the line for that.
The risk of losing her bloodline was nothing compared to losing him here.
If he really died here, she would follow in his footsteps soon after.
“Darling, I’m begging you—don’t leave me. Please, please…” she murmured.
She placed her bleeding wrist right above Roel’s injuries. The moment their blood came into contact, an intense mana reaction broke out.
