Chapter 8: Chapter 6

I looked with awe at the mere presence of the one in front of me. He is not only a powerful second order wizard, but he is also my future tutor if things go right. 

"My name is Al." I responded.

"I know, now what do know about magic?" He asked me.

I pondered for a bit. After a little thought I said what I believe to be magic.

"Magic is the manipulation of various phenomenon using the power of a strong mind." In my system, it shows my personal stats. If each stat has been shown to be a quantifier of strength, then spirit should correspond to magic. 

He smiled and then took out a bunch of books from an unknown location.

"Read and understand these books. I know you have read and understood the books on your magic communicator. These books can fill in the rest of your basics and contain the basic spells of the wind and water element. You should focus on these two elements for now since I have already developed down this road and can easily answer all of your questions." He then told me to go back and study the books and magic on my own before coming to ask questions.

When I left the room I found that Matilda was waiting by the door.

"You're out. I forgot to tell you that the Experimentation room also has a dorm to the side, so the side room can be lived in and you can order food from the dorm, just remember to pick it up at the front door since they can't deliver any further in." 

After saying this she turned around to leave the room. 

I went to the experiment room to see the dorm and put away my stuff. When I entered inside a saw a fairly sophisticated lab room. Similar to a science fiction movie lab, there were various machines and drawers with plentiful materials.

I then saw the dorm on the opposite side of the entrance and headed in. In the dorm was a fairly spacious apartment like room, even including windows. Although at second glance the scene outside was fake. After putting away all my stuff I noticed the note on the wall that said that I could order meals from my magic communicator and showed a symbol similar to a QR code on the wall. I went to my phone's scanner app that I had found when rummaging through the apps and scanned the QR code.

A new app appeared on my communicator and even had a new notification. Apparently, as a student of a second order wizard, I am provided with a free single portion meal three times a day. Any more food needs to be purchased though.

Since that was the case I ordered the meal and waited outside the door to get the meal. After only a few minutes I heard a knock on the door and opened it. After confirming the delivery I grabbed the meal and I ate it at the room labeled lounge that Matilda had mentioned.

After eating, I went to my experimental room and started reading the text books given by my teacher. I first scanned the book before reading it by hand since just scanning it won't allow me to easily utilize the information in the books. All the books would take a long while to finish understanding fully so I just took it one step at a time. 

After finishing a book I stretched for a bit before beginning my daily knight breathing exercise. Although mages usually just cast magic, according to the notes on the textbooks, mages are especially fragile in the development stage known as wizard apprentice. Once reaching first order they can truly let themselves go full magic without having to fear any sneak attacks.

After I finished with the knight breathing, I continued to scan all the books while I am starting to read them one by one.

Like that, a week passed me by with me absorbing all of the knowledge in these books like a sponge absorbing water. 

Now that a week has passed, I have finished reading all of these books and now know all of the precautions of preparing spells.

In order for someone to prepare a spell, they first need to know their own body's spell tolerance. Spell tolerance is how much the wizard's spirit can carry a spell. For most people, this wouldn't be a problem since their spirit is usually at the average level. In my case though, since I reincarnated, my soul's tolerance had also increased. Because of this, I know my soul's tolerance is higher than average, but how much higher is unknown. 

That was until I saw a record from a wizard's diary in one of the textbooks stating that the material known as sage grass can help determine your tolerance. Sage grass has a unique effect of resonating with your soul which can be used for various purposes. Along with it, a specific magic device in the lab is actually able to scan the sage grass and then calculate the soul's tolerance based on the sage grass's reaction.

So, I went to the hallway to the request room and asked for sage grass to be delivered. I entered the request room and saw a two tablet like object hanging on a pole. After I went to one of them, I saw that it wanted me to show my magic communicator to scan. After showing it my communicator, It scanned it and put me into my own account to exchange materials. 

After I requested for sage grass, a few minutes later a small, delicate box was ported over with what could only be described as portal/projection technology.

After confirming by showing my communicator to it, I heard a clicking sound like a lock being opened. I then took it to my lab room to begin checking out my soul tolerance.

Finally, I was able to confirm that my soul value was indeed double that of an ordinary wizard. To be exact, my soul tolerance value was actually the spirit value detected by my research system.

Now it was time to pick the spells that I want to learn now that I know my current soul tolerance.
