"But I thought Frost is hosting his daughter's ascension as Mafia Lord in his house tomorrow?" Jay asked.
"Yes. All of this is to ensure no blame comes to them when the overtaking happens," Zale explained.
"Is this how he chooses to repay me after all I did for him? I gave him free access to my land, as one Lord to another and all he could do is to do this? Jay, send men to check it out and get back to me. If what he says is true, then I am afraid the repercussions would be dire."
"Noted."
Not wasting time, Jay and Zale left the office with Sky, leaving Xander alone to his thoughts.
Unfortunately, at this time, Xander was experiencing a threat to his people but he could not tell where the threats were coming from and as the Dragon Lord, he needed to ensure that his people were safe and remained hidden from the world at all costs.
If there was a threat, he was prepared to bring it down at all cost, no matter what.
He knew how terrible the last attack was on his people. He was a kid then but his parents alongside the parents of Jay, Sky and Jenny, the council then, all attacked and prepared well.
In the end, they were able to defend their territory but that was a long time ago and all those involved were killed to bury the secret of their existence.
So now, the mantle of leadership had fallen on them. It was his turn to rule, he would not allow that it was his time his people went extinct.
By that evening he had gotten the full report of everything and it turned out that Zale was indeed telling the truth. In as much as Xander hoped it was a lie because he expected much from Frost, it still touched him that he was going to be betrayed.
"This is why you cannot trust their species. They have always been known to backstab you." Xander let out an exasperated sigh as he picked up an envelope on his desk.
Upon opening it, he found the pictures and some documents related to Frost inside. Ignoring the pictures, he picked the document and placed the pictures on the table when something caught his sight.
He dropped the document, then picked up the pictures and picked out the one that caught his eye. He did not know whether it was due to her silver hair but something about the silver he saw, drew his attention and he picked her photo.
His eyes dimmed a fraction as he stared at the beautiful girl on the picture but from the angle, her picture was taken he could not see her face clearly just the side and how lengthy her hair was.
Just from the way the picture was taken, he recalled what his source had told him. Jade was one heck of a human being that was hardly seen.
Her father had so much treasured her that he made sure she was protected at all times and no one was allowed to take a picture of her. So the highest someone had seen of her was the side of her face except when she runs out and wild with Asia just to have some fun and feel alive in society.
Most of the times, people would not even know who she was and she would wear a wig to conceal her hair and blend in well.
Even with all these, Xander did not know why he was drawn to the girl in the picture.
A small smile appeared on his face and he placed it down, trying to imagine what she would look like, unfortunately, the moment he put it down, his gaze caught sight of her father's picture and the anger that he had managed to calm down just now only resurfaced again.
He picked his phone and placed a call to Jay.
"Hello, Xan, what's up?" Jay's voice resounded from the other end of the phone.
Not answering him, Xander dished out his order. "Prepare, make plans. Ask Zale to carry out the mission since he brought the news. I would pay them back in their own coin. Take note of my next words."
"Alright. I'm listening."
"Good. That which was planned for me, revisit it on them."
"Xander, are you sure?"
"You said so yourself. They were responsible. Not in my time would I let the Dragon clan be wiped off from the face of the earth. We have a legacy to protect. Humans can't know about us."
"And Zale, doesn't he know?"
"From the look of things, he doesn't, he only heard some things about the conspiracy. Nevertheless, we are doing his family a favour. With the threat gone, Moon Crest's Mafia Families would need a new ruler. They can fight it up and if they are lucky they win."
"Alright."
"But keep a close eye on him. One wrong move on his part, then end him. The secret may remain safe. This is for our people. I have to make the difficult decision to keep them safe."
"Noted. I would get back to you."
"Alright." He ended the call and dropped his phone on the desk, then his eyes went back to Frost picture and once more his anger was rekindled.
Getting up, Xander picked the documents and pictures and threw them away on the floor. "Damn You, Frost!" Xander yelled in anger.
He hated being betrayed especially by those he trusted. As he left his seat and made his way to the window, his gaze landed on Jade's picture again.
Reluctantly he pried his eyes away. 'I am sorry that your father crossed me but I have a race to care for. I wished it was better.'
**FLASHBACK ENDS**
By the time Xander was done recalling what had happened, his eyes were already full of tears. It was as though his inner self was screaming at him not to make such pronouncement but he was much too concerned about the risks involved if nothing was done.
