By the next day, Jade was discharged and Macy took her home. Luckily for them it was a Saturday, so Jade had enough time to rest and get herself back to peak health.
It was already late in the afternoon when Jade finally got up from her bed and made her way to the kitchen to get something to eat.
She had decided to take the day off to sleep like there was no tomorrow and enjoy whatever little freedom she had left, knowing full well that once the week started she was going to be swamped with work.
After getting herself some toasted bread and omelet with cold milk, Jade made her way back to her room to eat and resume her sleep.
As she settled down to enjoy a nice meal, her phone began to ring.
Checking the caller, she sighed a little and cleared her throat before answering the call.
"Hello Arctic." Still, her voice sounded hoarse from disuse for a while.
"Boss."
"I know. It was dangerous."
"Then why did you still go?" Arctic asked.
"We made a nice improvement in the business and I need to celebrate."
"But something bad almost happened to you."
"I trust you would not have let anything happen, besides, I got help."
"Yes. You were lucky."
"I can take care of myself, Arctic. I do not need a babysitter."
"You may need one, Jade. I cannot risk anything happening to you too."
"Nothing will happen. Relax." She took a deep breath to calm herself before continuing. "By the way, did you see the face of the guy that saved me? Do you know who he is?"
"No. Unfortunately, he was always blocking the lights like he did not want to be seen by anybody."
"Do you think he suspected you were tailing him?"
"Maybe, but from the looks of things and how his friends handled things, he is no ordinary person. You need to be careful, Boss."
"He seems to be appearing everywhere I go," Jade mumbled to herself but Arctic's sensitive ears heard her.
"You've met him before?" From his voice, Jade knew he was perplexed by her words and that was when it dawned on her that she did not tell him about the mysterious stranger who had kissed her and was the same stranger who came to her rescue again today.
'Dumb Jade. You and your big mouth.' Jade mentally scolded herself.
"Yes, I did meet him once. At the other party the other day, the masked one?"
"Yes, I remember. The one I clearly did not want you to go to as well."
"And now he did today. Once it was a mistake, twice it was a coincidence. Thrice, I would be suspicious of him if you cross paths again."
"Relax, Arctic."
"No, you need to be careful. Things aren't all they seem to be most times." Arctic knew he was going to have a headache because of Jade and did not know why she was this stubborn.
"I know. Now, any luck with decoding the message?"
"None yet. I would keep trying till an answer can be found. For now lie low. No more checking parties and stuff. You never know who the men of Anders are."
"I will, thanks."
"Good."
The call cut and she kept her phone at her side then continued with her meal.
It was not even two minutes since her last call ended when her phone rang again.
"Damn it! Can't a girl have her rest?" Jade yelled, throwing her hands in the air. She checked her phone and saw that the caller was Macy.
"Hello, Macy."
"Hi, Jade. How are you?"
"I am good. And you?"
"Great. I am sorry to disturb you, I know we agreed for you to rest."
"Yeah," Jade interjected her words slowly. "Out with it so I can get back to my food and resume my sleep."
"Sigh. It is a business deal." Macy dropped the bomb with a sigh.
She knew her friend. Jade most likely would not be interested in the new investors especially with the new attitude they were giving.
As expected, Jade's reply came in short and simple. "Good. Handle it."
"They have a request," Macy quickly chipped in before Jade could end the call.
And just as though she knew, her friend's hand really was about to hit the end button.
Jade stopped with her hand hanging mid way in the air.
"What is this request that needs my input on?"
Mach could sense her friend's irritation. It was so typical of her when she did not want to be disturbed and she clearly warned Macy after they left the hospital that she did not want any disturbance whatsoever.
"They request to meet the CEO of the company before investing in our business. Simply put, they need to see you before the deal is carried out."
