Chapter 4: Arc 1(Kyoto) Chapter 2

At Nijo Castle's yards lies the Onmyo-Youkai alliance forward operation base. This place is surrounded not only by the force of youkai and onmyoji with their shikigami but also by the massive anti-Ayakashi array set by the Tsuchimikado that prevents the miasma of Yomi from leaking out of the castle and empowering the remnant of Nue's army.

At the center of it all lies the commanding tent and within the tent show a large hologram map displaying the situation on the battlefield or city in real-time by deploying units of flying imperial shikigami all over the sky of Kyoto. The discussion of war continues between the leader of onmyoji, Tsuchimikado Harutora, and the leader of Kyoto's youkai, Yasaka the Miko of Amaterasu.

" I hope we take back To-Ji temple at least for tonight. Hah... If only Nue did not send another Ayakashi army to not only Tokyo but also all the major cities too things would have been much more simple." The Tsuchimikado lamented about having to divide the force of his clan the secure each city from the Ayakashi.

" Well, little Yakou your once proud Tsuchimikado imperial army is pretty much a shadow of its glory day. Maybe after this war, I get that you will start another reform for the onmyoji clan? " Yasaka asks him with his former name in casual.

" Hah... Yasaka-dono looks at what happened to the onmyoji that use to be able to stand tall along with the sage, but now we are just like what the 5 clans would want to be the most Takamagahara's subordinate. No offense, but you should still remember the day of my imperial rule. While the youkai did not change that much since Nura Rihan era just a bit more fragment but nothing major like us." He explains the steep decline of onmyoji in every aspect.

" Non-taken, Yakou, you're right we did not face the real decline since lord Rihan, even now with little Rikuo starting his unification campaign for our people once more, we are truly better off than the onmyoji, so can I expect the return of Tsuchimikado imperial army before the next war comes?" She asks with curiosity.

" I'll kick start the Chrysanthemum pact once again for sure. And Yasaka-dono please stop calling me Yakou I am not him anymore. Hah..." He let out a sigh after saying.

" My apologize, Harutora-dono but yes little Yakou was never interested in a relationship after all ∼fufu." She giggles then she stares at Hishamaru beside him. " I hope you leave a descendant before entering the cycle of soul this time. I gonna need more friends for my Kunou than just Ayaka. " She said with some expectation.

" Yasaka-dono! It's not like that with me and Harutora-sama! " Hishamaru denied while blushing. " Ahem, What's wrong with Ayaka-kun Yasaka-dono? I did not hear any bad things aside from his Yako side quirk from Yuuki-jiisan. " Harutora clears his throat and changes the topic.

" Kunou needs a friend Harutora-dono and my Kunou seem to take a liking to his presence too much for a mere friendship. She asks me to let her become his shikigami even though they just met each other briefly. " She has a thoughtful expression while saying it.

" ... That reminds me of Kon hah... that little fox is gone now huh..." Harutora looks up and reminiscent. " Harutora-sama! " Hishamaru shakes his shoulder to stop him from reminding her of her embarrassing past. "Ahaha, My bad, my bad, Hishamaru. Anyway, where is little Kunou right now Yasaka-dono? I did not see her speak to Ayaka-kun at all when she saw his youkai form. " Harutora asks.

" She follows behind your princess right now while my tengu guard accompanies her. Well, there's a brigade worth of onmyoji and shikigami in the front she'll be fine. Yuuki-dono did ask me for it since my little Kunou seem too eager about knowing your Ayaka more." She shrugged.

" Hmm... I'll let Kakugyouki follow the Tengu guards too just in case. Also, did you just call Ayaka-kun princess? " He stuns at the statement. " Look at her form I see no reason not to call Ayaka that and the person herself let the whole unit she led call her a princess without a fuss, so I start to call her that too. " Yasaka explains the reason.

" Alright, If the person himself is fine with it. I'll keep referring to Ayaka-kun as a boy because I can sense his silence calling somehow... Well, same for Yuuki-jiisan too I guess." He mull over it and shrugged. " Ain't you glad? Harutora-dono, Tsuchimikado now has another princess, ∼fufu. " She teases.

" Right... Natsume... I hope nothing happens in Tokyo. Oh! looks like they all reach the frontline I just got a message from Kakugyouki that he spotted our 7 tails Yako jump into the fray." He brings the hologram to focus on the eastern side of the city.

It shows what happens in the frontline in real time now they can witness the silver Yako's prowess closely whether she can perform well as she proclaims to be able or not. Even if they can sense that the Tsuchimikado's silver princess is in the general grade she is still too young and yet to earn their complete trust in this war theater and also her lack of shikigami that being the main strength of the onmyoji.

" The unit she led has a 25 artificial tsuchigumo, 25 artificial Oni, 50 middle-class youkai, 1 major grade, 5 captains grade, and the rest is lieutenant grade onmyoji. I hope we can at least push the frontline from the Konoshima shrine to the Kurumazaki shrine. We need those two shrines to connect to the leyline again, so we can lessen the time on healing the crack even for a little bit." Hishamaru said with uncertainty.

" The real challenge will begin at Kurumazaki where several Colonel grade Ayakashi has been spotted. If she proves to be a capable general grade then we can let her spit off with the tengu guard and your Oni to take back Tenryu-Ji temple while the rest can go take back Umenomiya-Taisha shrine in the south." Yasaka estimates the result.

Three of them process to look at the other group that entering the combat area too in the meantime. The unit led by the father of Yako and the first supreme commander of the Nura clan has reached both Nishi and Higashi Honganji temples respectively. While the 3rd leader of the Nura clan met resistance from the Ayakashi force at the Komyo-in temple.

Now we back to our Yako that running in front of the strike force she led. The silver princess caught sight of Ayakashi waiting for their arrival across the Omura river, so she turned toward her unit and order the onmyoji under her command to let their shikigami engage with the Ayakashi force.

" Let's the tsuchigumo go first and have the Oni covering us as we push through the blockage! We must hurry to relieve our force in the Konoshima shrine! The fact that there's Ayakashi waiting for us here tells us enough about the situation at the shrine! " I shout at them with a clear voice.

(Let's see... Hmm... The tsuchigumo cannot take too much damage here or else we can't spit up later when we reach Kurumazaki shrine... I guess I need to be serious at Koryu-Ji temple where the Major grade has gathered. But for now, it's time to hunt!) I unsheath my blade and prepare to join in with the tsuchigumo that is about to come into full contact with the enemy.

" Huu... " I slowly inject my mana into the blade and chant. " Ame no Uzume, goddess of the dawn, bless this blade with your light to purify this land. -Order! " Then I call out the true name of this blade. " Kogarasu-maru! " And the bland tachi starts changing its appearance into something entirely different.

It becomes more divine in nature as the blade gains more length and turns darker, but the Hamon line has a golden reflection shine out from it, and the Tsuba(guard) has a pattern of soaring three legs crow or Yatagarasu in bronze and gold including both on the Habaki(blade collar) and Fuchi(handle collar), the Tsuka(handle) wrap in elegant golden silk with a Yatagarasu menuki in it, the Fuchi-kashira(end cap) also engraved with a golden Yatagarasu.

It turns into a mythical sword of the Taira clan that was given to them by the Yatagarasu. The legend around this sword was super obscure, but there's no doubt about it having the divine origin of Takamagahara. It's probably owned by either Amaterasu or Susanoo or both at a certain point. But now it's mine! well, I found it from the rogue hunt 3 years ago, so it's probably from the clan vault... I hope Tora-nii not gonna ask for it back.

" Princess! What are you doing!? " The major grade that follows me asks in nervousness. " Well, observe! " Metal enriches Water, Water nurtures Wood, Wood feeds Fire, Fire dries Earth, Earth refines Metal. ∼Oh, Flame of Yatagarasu cleanses the calamity from this land -Order! " Then the scatter talismans turn into a massive wall of fire and start to consume the Ayakashi around me while not damaging the tsuchigumo. So now I turn to order my unit to move with me, now that I clear out blockage enough for us to pass through.

" Oi! Over here! quickly! before more of them arrive we need to reach the shrine before the captain grade and above start to appear! " And the rest of unit follow me in hurry including their shikigami that covering the rear. " Scatter out the talisman while moving too! I don't know how long my fire spell can hold out! " I said to them while we running at full steam.

" Roger that princess! everyone uses swallow whip shikigami and fires out the spell afterward immediately! that will buy us enough time to reach the shrine! " He orders the lieutenant grade onmyoji while the captain uses a different method without disrupting the flow of spell.

Then we reach the shrine and see the massive octagon formation kekkai that barely holds out the Ayakashi as the major grade pound at the barrier non-stop. " Oi! who is the one in command here? And how many of you are still able to fight? " I ask as I look around the place in a hurry and see a lot of onmyoji and youkai alike pour their mana into the kekkai desperately and one of them finally notices me.

" Oh, Tsuchimikado silver princess! you came just in time thank the kami hah... Anyway, princess, we have only around 70 people still be able to fight on tonight the rest pretty much have the strength after their sudden assault during the twilight hour." The male Nekomata youkai answer with relief.

" If I buy us some time how much would you need for tending the wound enough for us to push back the Ayakashi and take back the Kurumazaki shrine? " I ask him while preparing the talismans to scatter out as soon as possible. " How many of you have enough reserve to heal us? " he asked "There are 20 of us that can so let's get to work now at least for tonight we need to take back the Kurumazaki shrine. Leave the kekkai to me! " I said to him and send out the healer to help the injured in Konoshima shrine.

" Princess? " the major and the captain stared at me confused about what I'm going to do with the barrier. "Trust me on this okay? I already let us pass through the blockage now let me hold the kekkai! " I said to him enthusiastically. " Hah..." I breathe in slowly and then throw out 5 talismans into the sky to add the pentagram formation on top of the one that barely standing.

" God of the east sea, Amei. God of the west sea, Shukuryou. God of the south sea, Kyojou. God of the north sea, Gukyou. Gods of the seven seas, fend off a hundred demons and drive back the fierce disaster. - Order! " I reinforce the ward with anti-Hyakki Yagyou pentagram. " Now you guys got time! get to work quickly so we can push through Koryu-Ji temple asap! " I wave at them and watch them go around helping the injured and rest up a bit while I decide to go hunt the Ayakashi around alone.

" You're a major grade huh? Let's see if you can endure against this blade! " Then I jump on the 5-meter tall ogre Ayakashi that has been attacking the ward non-stop since before we reach here. " Hah! " I slash his ankle and jump to evade his slam attack. " You're too slow! " Then I cut off his right leg from the back made him lose his balance immediately then I jump on his body and slice off his head in one motion. " So much for a major grade huh? "

(I mean seriously I kill it in like 30 seconds? Damn disappointing.) I can feel my fox ears flop down but then perk up hearing more and more movement incoming from the east.

So I turn to look around and see more Ayakashi charging at me and I start to smile at them. " Good! good! Come! let's dance! " I charge at them with a wild grind on my face and start to laugh as I slice more and more of them into pieces. " Ahahahaha-" My laugh echo the battlefield around me.

On the outside of the barrier, one can see the beautiful silver kitsune with seven tails running around swinging her sword at the Ayakashi while having a bewitching smile on her face as she turns them into dust after the divine property of her sword purifies them in the same motion as her slash. Her massacre of the Ayakashi looks like a wild kagura dance wild yet elegant to look at and that image capture people in the area that watch her from inside the barrier.

" Well, our princess is a general grade for sure alright. " The Tsuchimikado onmyoji talks to his colleague. "Yeah... Harutora-sama is right to let her lead this unit. " His colleague answered in a sobering tone. "Is Yako nature always like that or that is just our princess? " He turns to ask the kitsune youkai near him. "Nah.. most of the Yako is wild but not that precise in their attack like what Ayaka-hime showing now. Oh! She starts to use the foxfire!" The Kitsune said with excitement.

The silver Yako surrounds herself with a blue foxfire and then releases it to the ayakashi that is about to rush to her rear while backflipping in the air. " ...Praise the gravity. " The male youkai murmurs out and all those near him get his statement immediately. Because the silver Yako fighting style involves jumping around a lot and the kimono that hug her body, especially the chest area is bouncing around every time she moves. " ...Praise Inari-sama for creating such a wonder kitsune. " The onmyoji said it out loud and a get nod from the male colleague.

" Praise Ame no Uzume-sama for creating Kagura, so that we can see it in the sword dance like this. " someone adds and still get a nod. " That blade dance must use a hell of a lot of stamina but our princess still smiling happily while jumping around slicing youkai while chanting onmyoudo mantra and using foxfire... Her senjutsu control level must be insane. " finally someone said something constructive not involving her breast is what the female personnel in the area thought at that moment. " Why did she not use fear too? " the female onmyoji ask.

" According to Yuuki-sama and Ayaka-hime herself, she did not know how to use it. " the major grade onmyoji answered. " So she's more of an imperial army onmyoji rather than a shikigami or youkai. Oh, she starts using the fire realm spells too. " then they heard a clear muttering of the chant clearly as if they were next to her. " Namah sarva tatha gatebhyah sarva, Namah sarva tatha gatebhyah sarva! " And the fiery red flame spilled out from her close proximate and the fire of Buddism's guardian start purifies the ayakashi and anything that has the Yomi taint around her.

" That was Buddism magic right? I did not know it was this effective against Ayakashi. " the female onmyoji realize. " You're not from the Tokyo branch huh? They use it a lot over there and are taught in the academy too. " Her colleague pointed out. " Born and raised in Kyoto. Guess I have to look around another system more or we'll become obsolete like the 5 clans. " She muttered aloud.

" But Blue foxfire? Is that normal? " Another onmyoji asks. " That's unique to her I guess? I mean Yasaka-sama and Kunou-hime is gold. Also, aren't your clan Hishamaru-sama's fire also white? " The youkai said back but someone chime in. " Un! un! Hisha-neesama flame is white! but Ayaaya fire is nice too!" the youkai and onmyoji alike look at the source of the voice in panic. " Kunou-hime!? " They found the little kyubi sitting alongside them here at the frontline with blooming expression looking at the Yako destroying Ayakashi horde.

" Ahem... she'll be fine with me and the tengu here to protect her. " A tall blonde hair man with tan skin and one arm answers them with a clear and confident tone. " Kakugyouki-sama! " Onmyoji and youkai bow at the legendary shikigami with respect. " Hmm... " He nodded at them to ease up. " How is the situation? can all of you move now? Or are you gonna sit here and wait for that little Yako to clean up everything? " He asks them with a bit of annoyance.

" Only 70 be able to move now Kakugyouki-sama. Ayaka-hime is buying us time for the rest to heal up so we can move all the force at once to retaking the Kurumazaki shrine." The major from the Tsuchimikado report then salute. " Alright, We're moving out in 30 minutes! So be prepared tonight we'll be not only retaken Kurumazaki shrine but also Umenomiya shrine." Kakugyouki announces to them. " Ha! " Then the onmyoji salute at once.

Another 30 minutes pass by and the silver Yako returns to the shrine with a wry smile on her face and her sword sheath while shaking her head and mumbling about not killing enough Ayakashi then her ears perk up at the voice. " Ayaaya! " a little kyubi run up to her with excitement. " Ah- Kunou-chan! so that you guys who been following us! well, glad my fire spell holds long enough for you to catch up soon. " The Yako nodded to herself while her tails swing around lively.

" Un! Ayaaya this is why you smell like Hisha-neesama? You're a kitsune like me too! " The little blonde kyubi observing her closely. " Yes but I am a Yako Kunou-chan as you see I can get lost in my drunken rampage ahaha..." The Yako answered nervously. " Un! un! I can see that but it's fine! Ayaaya do it for this city after all! I'll help too! " The kyubi show her nodachi to the world. " I got this from Inari-ojisama! He said I need this for protecting myself! and Okaa-sama already teach me how to use it too!" She unsheaths the blade to show its full glory.

The Nodachi has a long blade curve like a crescent moon, and The clear Hamon line reflects the moonlight beautifully. The Habaki(blade collar) has a kitsune engraved in it also along with the Tsuba(guard) and the Fuchi (handle collar). The Tsuka(handle) wraps in an amber orange color silk with a kitsune menuki in it and the Fuchi-kashira(endcap) is also engraved with a kitsune.

" It's a very beautiful divine sword Kunou-chan and Inari-sama give it to you? What is its name?" She asks in curiosity. " Kogitsunemaru! Inari-jiisama said it made for me perfectly! " The little kyobi answered enthusiastically. " Hoh... Kunou-hime you got a weapon of Sanjou Munechika! now with Ayaka-hime Kogarasu-maru, we can take back the Kurumazaki shrine for sure tonight. " Kakugyouki said with confidence.

" Ah! good evening Kakugyouki-san, I'm Amatsuki Ayaka! " The silver Yako greets him. " Hmm, greeting Ayaka-hime I'm afraid we have to move now that you clear the area we also need to leave some people at the Koryu-Ji temple next before attacking the Kurumazaki shrine." He nods at her and starts to explain the war plan.

" Got it! I'm fine with that I still did not get enough blood for tonight after all∼ " The Yako tails swing lively. " Alright, everyone we moving up now call the shikigami to cover us again as we move I'll be throwing a bunch of fire spells in the front for us!" She turn and said to her subordinate and unsheathed her blade again. " Ryokai! " Then they all start moving.

They clean up the Koryu-Ji shrine with relative ease as most of the Ayakashi from it was already sent to attack the Konoshima shrine so there is only a small force present that gets cleaned up with relative ease. Then as they approach the Arisu river they start to feel that the miasma becomes thicker again showing the sign of corrupted leyline in the area specifically the Kurumazaki shrine and Tenryu-Ji temple in the distance.

" Everyone put up a kekkai! we'll be pushing through with it! " the Yako order then every onmyoji pulls out talismans with a surplus for the youkai then process to their respective chant to put the personal ward up including the Yako that put one up for the Kyubi next to her. " I don't need it don't worry about me. " The one arm Oni declined.

As the force of Youkai and Onmyoji reach the Kurumazaki shrine they start to feel the presence of Ayakashi clearly as several colonel grades show themselves menacingly with their small army of Ayakashi that occupied the shrine that holds one of the major leylines of Kyoto.

" Scatter the swallow whip shikigami! I'll use the Yamantaka method! Also, half of you put a pentagram quickly! before they realize it!" The Yako ordered as she whip out more than 30 talismans at once and start chanting.

" Metal enriches Water, Water nurtures Wood, Wood feeds Fire, Fire dries Earth, Earth refines Metal, Turn my spirit into the blade that cleanses the calamity. -Order!" She scatters the talismans as they start to turn into a massive amount of spirit weapons and surround the Ayakashi in the shrine.

" Is the shikigami ready? " She asks as she looks toward the sky and sees hundred of swallow shikigami flying in a circle above the shrine. " Ready to go princess! " the major answer. Then the Yako start to chant the mantra as the spirit weapon ready to penetrate and purify the ayakashi that standing weary at them.

" ...On kirikushuchiribikiri tadanouun sarabashatorodashaya satanbayasatanbaya sohatasohatasowaka... Onshuchiri kyararoha unkensowaka... " As she chants the pentagram in the sky lights up as it receives the magic power from the Yako [Fing!] And sent out the massive beam of light through it then scatters around reflecting the swallow shikigami to the spirit weapon. [Ping!] [Ping!] [Ping!]--- As the spirit weapon empowering from the pentagram it launches itself into the Ayakashi army immediately.

[BOOM][BOOM][BOOM]!!
The explosion swallows up the Ayakashi army leaving a big smoke to see.

" Wanna bet the colonel still fine? " someone muttered. " Oh! I hope they are still fine alright I wanna see Kunou-chan in action! " the Yako answered loudly. " Well congrats princess there are 5 of them left now all of you will move to retake the Umenomiya shrine in the south me and the tengu guard will support the princess here! Dispatch!" Kakugyouki order them to move as there is no major Ayakashi force left in the area anymore so he send the rest of the force which was more than enough to take back the Umenomiya shrine.

"" Ryokai! "" the youkai and onmyoji salute then recalled their shikigami and leave with the tsuchigumo and the Oni. " Now show us princess that those swords are not wasted on you! " Kakugyouki then said to the two general class kitsune that has a divine weapon of the kami. " Un! un! I will show Kaku-jiisan that I am also a general grade kyubi like Okaa-sama! " the little kyubi answered with excitement then unsheathed her blade and rush into the fley immediately.

" Alright, Oldman don't worry it'll be quick let's see if the so-called colonel grade can entertain me enough∼" The yako pulls out a talisman and then throw it at the nearest Colonel Ayakashi. " Boom! " It's an explosive talisman that pulls the attention of three Oni like Ayakashi to her as she intends. " Come on! Let's dance! " She then dashes into it with a bright smile.

" Hah! " onto Kunou's side which holds off two spider ayakashi with her golden foxfire that holds a potent purity property that is very fatal to the Ayakashi or even the devil. " Sei! " She slashes at the spider with her nodachi and it cut off 3 out of eight legs making one of them lose its balance [Sha!] but another one spill out the acid from its mouth preventing her from finishing off the cripple spider. " Eat this! " she dodges and throws her foxfire back at the spider then hear the sound of something collapsing near her. [Bang!] " !? Ayaaya! " she saw the Yako punch one of the Oni Ayakashi into her cripple spider that try to get up, and both turn into dust from the damage done by the Yako.

" Ah! sorry, Kunou-chan I'll let you finish off that one alright! See you! " The Yako then jumps back at her two remaining Oni like Ayakashi. " Mou! Ayaaya already got two! fine, you'll perish with my blade for sure! " She shouts at the spider that staring at her cautiously. Then both of them start fighting again with Kunou dodging the incoming acid and throwing the foxfire back at it seeing that fails she decides to pull out a talisman and seal its movement with a pentagram formation in hurry. " Oh Amaterasu, goddess of the sun, hear my pledging and seal this calamity. -Order!" her move is effective as the spider now struggles with a golden spirit chain covering its body.

" I got you! " She stabs the spider in the head while imbuing the blade with her foxfire. " Good work Kunou-hime! " The tengu guard cheers. " Ahaha∼ thank you, everyone! " She waves at them happily. " No, injured while fighting against colonel grade you'll surpass Yasaka-hime soon little Kunou. " Kakugyouki praise her. "But Ayaaya help me there Kaku-Jiichan! I am still far off from Okaa-sama! " She protests adorably. " Good that you realize princess indeed that the Yako did help you but you still be able to evade all the attacks from the Ayakashi that most are struggling against. " He acknowledges but still points out to her.

Then they heard the sound of a blade slashing off the flesh. " Well, that was fun wannabe Oni-san! " The yako said as she cut off the head of the Ayakashi. " Good work, Ayaka-hime let's purify this place and reconnect it to the leylines. " The shikigami nods at the Yako. " Got it, Oldman! Also, good job Kunou-chan I did not realize you're a general grade too! " She walks to the kyubi and pats her head. " Unun∼ " The kyubi shook her head and answered. " I'm still far off Ayaaya if not for your help thing would be bad for me you know! " She said truthfully.

" Well we can still fight more tomorrow for tonight let's clean up this place and put up a ward, so can go back and report the situation at the castle. " The Yako stop patting kyubi head and walk into the shrine to prepare the cleansing ritual. " Got it! I wanna fight with Ayaaya more too! " The kyubi said while her tails wave lively.

Then the massive pentagram lit up on the ground of the Kurumazaki shrine as the ritual purifies the place from Ayakashi miasma. " God of the east sea, Amei. God of the west sea, Shukuryou. God of the south sea, Kyojou. God of the north sea, Gukyou. Gods of the seven seas, Purify this eroded land and drive back the corrupted calamity. -Order! " [Feng!] As the chant ends the shrine feels holy again the miasma is gone and the presence of divinity starts to gather in the shrine again with the leyline reconnected.

" Alright now we wait for the reinforcement to come so we can go back and sleep hah... It's 3 am now huh? I did not realize we had been fighting this long even though this place is just 6 kilometers away from the castle. " The yako said aloud. " It's always been like this princess we can only gain a bit of ground each night if not for you and Kunou-hime we can only reach Koryu-Ji temple at most. " The tengu guard said. " The presence of general grade makes a lot of difference in war Ayaka-hime thing that we could slay easily are still the struggle for most people like the colonel that you just slayed. " Kakugyouki chime in.
