Chapter 71: Ch 69. Noisemaker

A couple of villagers in chainmails came out to meet me.

“Who are you? What is that thing?” They were anxious.

“We are from the military. We encountered some green monsters and then found this village.”

“I have no idea what military you’re talking about… If you are a soldier, can the other soldiers help us…? You must’ve walked into goblins. They pest the villages since those foreign bastards showed up. We could only hole up in here, and hope the goblins wouldn’t break in.” Now it was my turn to be anxious.

“Do you mean that they attack everybody around?”

“Yes.” The villagers confirmed.

“Well, we killed a group of them. Will that relief you a bit?”

“Don’t make me laugh, kid. Even if you slaughter an entire tribe of them, they would come in greater numbers. Then the foreigners would come to loot what’s left.” I reached for radio.

“Get ready, we might encounter both monsters, and people. We will be glad to help you, if you’re fine with it.”

“What can a child do?” The villagers looked at me with ridicule.

“A child can do a lot when she’s backed by a tank.” I pointed behind myself.

“A tank…? What is so special it is filled with?” [Tank as a tank with liquid]

While the villagers are thinking, I will make the crew prepare.

“Turn around.”

‘wrrRRR-RRR’

“Can I talk to the village chief?” Right now I need a permission to stay here.

The last think I want is to be backstabbed while protecting those guys.

The men beckoned me to follow. They led me to a house.

I opened the door and stepped in. Inside I saw a woman.

“Oh, what are you doing here, dear?” The woman stopped doing her chores, and looked at me.

“Can I see the chief?”

“Is there something urgent?” (W)

“You can say it is. We can wait but I’d rather consult first.”

The woman measured me from head to toes. She was attentively examining my uniform until she gestured me to stay, and entered one of the rooms. A minute later she peeked out and gestured me to enter.

Inside of the room was a man in rags.

“You are the one who visits me? I didn’t see you before.” (M)

“We are from the local duke’s vanguard.” The man silently put his hand on a sword scabbard.

“We encountered ‘goblins’, or whatever it was. Since we have some time, we can offer our help.”

“At what price…?” The man was suspicious of me.

“The price of our help is information. I feel like you don’t like neither me, nor the enemy forces. We want to know as much as we can about the enemy. We would be even more grateful if we can draw some enemy forces in here.”

“Ha?!” The man stood up and drew his sword.

“Why are you so agitated? I could’ve passed by, you know? If you don’t need help, then say so.” I thought he would be glad to have the foreign army kicked out from the region.

“Tch. Stay outside of the village. If you can get rid of the goblins, we’ll be talking. If not, the dead are not my problem.” (M)

“Fine by me. Can you warn your people to not interfere with our fight?”

“Fine.

‘Damned foreigners.’ (M)

With the night approaching, the villagers grew restless.

The amount of patrols on the palisade increased.

I leisurely scanned the surroundings through the machine gun’s scope.

“Are you sure there is not going to be trouble with the locals?” (J)

“I’m not. They are not my problem. We are here to make some noise.”

“Mhm.” (J)

“Ezheli kto pridet – horosho, ezheli net – ne beda.” [If somebody comes - good, if not - there is no problem.]

“And we can always run away, before those guys start throwing stones at us.” (J)

I giggled, and returned to the scope.

It was already past the midnight. I was becoming sleepy because of this damned body.

I already dozed off several times.

When I felt like I am about to fall asleep, I glanced in the scope one more time.

This time I saw a shadow.

My drowsiness disappeared in a moment.

For me, it was better than a teapot of coffee.
