Absolute Terror!

The overwhelming feeling of powerlessness before the adversaries who towered above everyone that watched permeated the land.

The bloody sight of carnage and death was no longer considered strange, as the world had been plunged into complete chaos. Darkness filled the earth, famine corrupted nations, and evil seeped into the inner recesses of men, turning them into beings that are akin to demons.

In such a world full of despair and despondency, there was no such thing as hope… or was there?

In one of the fallen civilizations rose smoke that was so thick, one could barely see through it. The thick musk of blood and burning wood tingled people's senses, and several dead bodies of men, women, and children were scattered across the devastated place that was once a bustling paradise.

"N-no… please… I don't… I don't want to die…" A man's hoarse voice sounded.

Among the many devastated structures, a hoarse croak could be heard.

It was weak and barely audible.

Already crushed by the several debris that had been flung everywhere by the onslaught of the devils that roamed the land, his back lay heavily on a pile of rocks, and the bottom half of his body was covered with a boulder that probably weighed more than he could imagine.

"Haa… Ha-aa…" The man struggled to breathe, strangely trying to cling to life, something that seemed bleak in the middle of the current crisis.

In such a dreary world that made people wish they were better off dead than alive, this person didn't want to embrace the chilly call of death and fall into eternal slumber.

He wanted… to live!

>RUMBLE!<

Unfortunately, his desire was one that could never be accomplished!

>RUMBLE!<

The sudden sound of tremors echoed throughout the devastated land which was covered in smoke and flames. Destroyed buildings crumbled even further as the earth trembled.

Other than the few wails and dying screams of the countless bodies lying around, the strange dark day was filled with silence.

Dreary silence, so deep that it seemed boundless.

Buried in the torrents of this very decorum, the man who had no idea as to how he would escape from his desperate situation cried hopelessly. It was pointless to engage in such an act in his current predicament, but being nothing but a mere human, what more could he do to express his desperation?

Tears streamed down his swollen eyes as his roughened, bleeding face drooped slowly. He was losing too much blood. Within what he estimated to be a few minutes in his hazy mind, the man knew death would come for him.

"I'm really… going to die here…?" He coughed and groaned.

Several thoughts played across his mind. People called it 'one's life flashing before their eyes', so perhaps that was the most accurate definition for what was going on within the heart and soul of the dying, wretched man that lay in his pool of blood.

He remembered the times before ruin befell the land. He recalled how brightly the sun had greeted everyone with its warmth and how the moon would rear its lovely and serene figure once nighttime came. Its dim light would bless everyone with illumination and soothe their fears.

Darkness never had a place in the world his memories visited. Light had always vanquished darkness, and evil was nothing but a mere shadow underneath the powerful force of pure justice!

However, the world suddenly changed one day. Every evil known to man was released, and in a single moment, a switch was flipped, turning the natural order of things into nothing but a lost dream.

Light turned into darkness, as the celestial lights that once danced in the sky disappeared. Dark clouds loomed over the heads of everyone. Some had initially thought that the darkness was only a sign of rainfall or a coming storm.

How generous an idea that was!

A storm did come, all right. However, it never passed. Days came and went, if they could be called that. However, the lingering dark clouds didn't vanish. Following the blackened days, what ensued next was absolute chaos and bloodshed.

Devils of the night crawled about and prowled around the earth, searching for prey to devour. Some were so colossal that they easily toppled buildings with a single movement, while others appeared human-like. Although, they were in their deceptive form.

How long had it been since the evil started? No one could keep track of It anymore. How could they? Day and night were synonymous in this new world, and one would consider himself lucky if he could get a few hours of sleep in peace.

In such a warped reality of absolute terror and hopelessness, survival was the most difficult thing to achieve. Yet, some clung to it desperately, never for once letting go of the will to live.

The result?

Their hands slipped, and sooner or later, one after the other… they all met their end.

The daydreaming man was no different. He now felt his foolishness as darkness slowly enveloped him entirely. He could feel the chill surrounding his body and the numbness in various parts of himself which told him that all the time left for him to his last breath was most likely a few seconds, and that was being generous!

>RUMBLE<

The sound of tremors drew nearer.

>RUMBLE!<

Large feet made their prints in the crushed, devastated, barren land. They now belonged to the devils that trod upon the face of the earth, they were beings of absolute wickedness and terror. Creatures of the dark who had twisted expressions of pleasure as they trampled on civilizations and people, crushing anything in their path.

If evil donned a persona and was said to be alive, these creatures could be said to be the incarnate of such an existence.

No, that wasn't right… the tall, massive, and terrifying creatures couldn't be said to be evil themselves. Perhaps a more ample word such as 'mere vestiges of evil and wickedness' would do them more justice.

The true personification of evil were the beings who floated in the air, a great distance from the large creatures that wreaked havoc. Watching the chaos and hopelessness unfold from afar off, they appeared to smile gleefully, taking delight in every single moment.

The great shadows that represented evil itself, as well as the cause of the great darkness of corruption that consumed the world, were seven in number.

They each had distinct shapes and sizes, but due to their extremely evil nature, they were shrouded in darkness, an atmosphere that is so thick, no living being would be able to bear being in close proximity with them.

The world itself rotted thanks to their presence, and it wouldn't be long before everything and everyone perished.

As the man sighted the great malevolent beings at a distance, he laughed at himself. Was it out of pity or spite? Perhaps regret.

"I've… argh… been a fool…" His lips moved slowly as he uttered those words, already resigning himself to the fate that awaited him.

Death was already within a hair's breadth from his broken body. He cursed himself for clinging to a nonexistent hope for so long.

In the presence of such overwhelming power and terrible pressure, what could mere mortals hope to achieve?

"… I never… had any chance, to… urgh… begin with…"

He cursed within himself once more as he shut his eyes and felt himself drift into the void of eternal slumber. Somehow, he felt at peace.

Death wasn't so scary after all. Compared to the hell he had been living, this was actually a relief. What appeared to be a smile formed on his face within his subconscious as whatever remained of him found solace in the emptiness of death.

The man died.

For a brief moment, there was silence… then light…

… And then the man woke up!

"Argh! Argh!" He made gasping sounds as air rushed back into his lungs. A look of confusion played on his face as he looked around him with a blurred vision to make sense of what had just happened.

He was certain he got carted away by death, yet… what was happening?!

"You're safe now… you did well holding on for so long." A voice suddenly said.

The voice didn't belong to him, the man was very well aware. While trying to shake his head to figure out what was happening, he saw the most peculiar sight.

Perhaps it was all just a dream, a part of dying, or the last vision playing in his mind before he fully went to the afterlife.

However, if his eyes and ears and every fiber of his being weren't deceiving him, then what he was seeing was absolutely impossible!

The tall devils that had wreaked havoc on the world were all down, lying flat upon the face of the very ground they had trampled. They weren't moving in the slightest. The darkness around them also seemed to melt, evaporating into nothingness.

It didn't take long for the man to figure out the reason why. They were dead!

The invincible forces of darkness were all dead, gone in the short moment between when he had closed his eyes and opened them.

Not only were they dead, but he was alive and completely healthy. Not only had he regained the limbs he'd lost, but he now sat atop a slightly elevated cluster of debris and watched what he could only describe as the most glorious sight he had ever witnessed. Floating overhead him were seven beings.

No, they weren't the same as the seven beings that used to be shrouded in malice and darkness before their death.

These ones were different. They were all donning marvelous outfits that shone within the darkness and were almost blinding to the eyes that looked upon them.

They brightened up the dark clouds and levitated to face the other seven responsible for the misery that had befallen everyone.

The man didn't need anyone to tell him before he understood.

The voice of the one who calmed him down certainly belonged to one of those seven. They were also the ones who had saved him from certain death. And now… they were going to save the world from impending doom!

"A-a… A miracle…!" Was all the man could utter as tears fell from his eyes, witnessing the bright light of the seven glorious ones glow even brighter against the coming darkness.

Suddenly, all the unease in his heart vanished as he felt the courage to once again believe.

Hope wasn't lost!

If the seven malevolent beings were the very epitome of evil, then the seven who stood opposite them in defiance were the incarnations of justice, the very essence of hope!

The man was assured, no; he was confident… that just like in the past, before the world fell into ruin, hope would prevail.

… And it did!

The Heroes won.

Evil was banished from the world.

Peace returned.

However… that all happened over a thousand years ago. This story isn't about the heroes who thwarted the evil of that time, but rather it's about the ones who will rise up against the one to come.

Once again, history is about to repeat itself, and the world will be plunged into chaos and corruption.

However… just as the great darkness left its legacy behind in the world, so did hope!

This is the story about the 7 chosen ones. Actually, it is truly about a boy among them who ended up being caught in a war he never signed up for and had no intention of fighting… however, just as we all can not escape our destiny, he became one with his.

Shall you venture into this tale of heroes and devils? Immerse yourself in the epic of a war that existed a millennium ago, and a deeper darkness that existed long before then?
