Chapter 21: V2C6 – Debrief and The Ring

Ai Nakano:

"Pathetic...I couldn't do anything. I don't know what's going on either. What 'normal' ? Nothing is normal at this rate..."

Hero Party:

"[Arog] and the [Berserk Curse]...where could Vetheris be?"

"The flow of time is the same so he shouldn't have come to this world much earlier than us."

"That means that the only way he could determine our identities would be if he is close enough to see our faces...no he might've gotten hits online."

"It seems you guys are talking about some interesting things."

The frazzled group turned to the melodic voice of Ai Nakano.

"That reminds me, when I went to take on the [Curse] it was already defeated. And when Watanabe-kun was acting strange, you seemed to know why...care to explain yourselves?"

"..."

"Truthfully, we're heroes from another world--"

--Ryosuke reluctantly tells Ai about themselves since there was no escaping her pressure--

Ai scrunched her brow and held her head to take in the ridiculous yet seemingly earnest story.

"To think that other worlds exist...and that you returned from one."

"Yeah. W-Wait what are you doing?"

"Making a call."

[Movement Barrier]

"Do you think we'll let you?"

"Haha..."

"Just think of it like us threatening you if you tell anyone."

"Isn't that what you're doing...well not like your existence needs to be known this instant."

"Thanks, Nakano-san."

"Hahaha...what are f-friends for..."

Akito Harada:

"That [Demon Lord] seems troublesome if he's attacking a high school..."

At home, I drowned myself in thought as I drew the cover for 'Attacked Magical Girls, Everyone Panic' based on a true story...I had just started receiving commissions again. The windows and curtains were all sealed but the little light that came in highlighted the atmospheric dust. We got to go home early for the day so my homework was somewhat lacking...

"Yoru, how does this look?"

"According to my calculations, the proportions look fine."

"You think?"

"Wait..."

"What? Is something wrong with it?"

"No, it seems your friend is at the door..."

"What!? Hide my [Core Grenades] please."

"On it."

*door opens*

"Oh, Ayame!"

"Why are you oddly excited for me to drop by?"

"Uh...I like it when you drop by?"

Her face tinged bashfully.

"T-thanks...well anyways, I have something to give you!"

"Give me?"

Hopefully not a beating because you found out my identity.

"Rino said it's more than it seems but to me it's just an old ring (that lessens air resistance) so I'll give it to you."

Ayame gave a small ring that looked to be infused with jade in complex patterns to me.

(After debriefing Vetheris's attack with her friends, she thought about protecting others close to her in case of an emergency since she has that power. So, Akito was a candidate for someone who needs to be protected as Ayame's friend and a student at their school. This ring will serve as a connection for finding the location of Akito with Rino's mana detection since it has mana in it as an item from [Orvinus]. It will also probably help him out with menial tasks...)

"A sudden p-proposal? What is this ring?"

"Baka *whack*. Also, the ring just looks nice...and totally does not have any special effects. Treat it like a charm!"

"Alright alright..."

I took the ring from her.

"Is this all you came for?"

"I also came to hang out since we haven't in a while."

"That is true. What do you want to do?"

"I don't know...do you have any practice swo--games we could play?"

"Hmm...not the newer ones but I have some."

"Great..."

Ayame and I played games until late when she had to go home. Catching up with her was great and all, but she's trying her best to cover up the fact she went to another world. How cute. Now, for this ring. She told me that Rino said it's more than what it seems and that Rino girl seems to have the most mana perception ability. When I was attacked by the heroes, she was the first to notice me and she knew that I lifted the curse from that student during the attack on the school after glancing at the scene once.

I wonder what this ring does, it should be safe since it's from Ayame. I slipped the ring on...to feel and see no visible change.

"Yoru, can you analyze this? What does it do?"

"Hmm..."

Yoru stared at the ring for a while.

"It boosts resistance to and inward affinity for wind attribute magic. The sequence is quite ingenious..."

"I don't even use wind magic that much. Also, why would she give me a tool for boosting magic performance when she should think I can't use magic?"

"It eases air resistance so it'll probably make you perform physically better regardless of if you use magic or not."

"I see..."

"I'm not done describing what the formation in the ring does you know?"

"There's more?"

"It's trapping something inside of it."

"What is that something?"

"Well, you need to break the seal to find out."

"How would we do that? Can you do it?"

"Be more hesitant and cautious Akito. What if it's a demon or something?"

"Well, I'll just deal with it."

"Look at you, who was at death's door just a few months ago..."

"Yes yes. So, the seal, way to break it how?"

"It just needs a lot of mana and it'll overflow and tear itself down. You should have enough as Aki."

"Alright then, I'll [Transform] so cover me."

"Got it."

I check to make sure Ayame is long gone since it'll be troubling if she feels Aki's presence in my house. Yoru's hiding capabilities can't fully hide my Aki form's magical presence but can muffle it slightly. However, it can hide it at least to the point where Rino can't detect where I, Aki, live from far away. Those nearby might be able to sense it but there are no such people this time around currently.

"Here I go."

[Transform]

The familiar flash of light covered the room for a moment and dissipated. In Akito's place was the beautiful [Magical Girl Aki] wearing my own casual clothes. I really do rock anything in this form...I'm glad to be a bishoujo. The next moment, 

"Uwaa!"

"What?"

"The ring just sucked a bunch of my mana!"

The ring I had put on that Ayame gave me glittered gently with a faint green light. A gust of wind pushed all around afterward and I was blinded for a moment. My entire mana reserves were down by more than half...

"Wahahaha! Who has unsealed the superior wind spirit, Sino of the [Vicious Gale]. Ho? Are you my master? To think that my master is such a cute girl...these long years of waiting were worth it after all!!!"

"...what!?"
