This story takes place centuries ago in a world called [Orvinus]...

A certain wind spirit lived a normal life in the mortal realm. Spirits are beings formed of pure will and mana that accumulate over time. They occupy the natural mana permeating [Orvinus] and exist in a hierarchy. From the bottom up are lower spirits, superior spirits, and the [Spirit King]. Lower spirits are spirits that have a cumulative will but are unable to manifest themselves strongly. Superior spirits are capable of materializing themselves due to their distinct will. They both have corresponding attributes (only one). The [Spirit King] is the ruler of all spirits that has the power of all attributes, a being said to exist since the beginning of intelligence.

As the first and strongest, the [Spirit King] laid out specific rules for how spirits were to interact with other intelligent life forms. They were to remain neutral and keep order in the world, only granting their powers through [Contracts] to chosen individuals as to not tear and restore balance. The superior wind spirit, Sino, obeyed this and kept order in [Orvinus] as one of the [Spirit King]'s faithful servants.

But then, she was caught by a renowned human wizard from a certain nation and was sealed into a ring in an attempt to produce a powerful item. The experiment failed and the ring only slightly helped in regards to the wind attribute, a far cry from what was intended. Treated as an odd but underwhelming item, it went through many hands and different wearers. They all had insufficient mana capacities, and the sealed spirit was never released.

The spirit in the ring had a loose sense of consciousness and could not see outside. It could dazedly think, and think was all it could do.

"I never really lived for myself did I?"

"When I get out I'm going to do the things I want!"

"I'm bored."

Although the spirit could withstand the time, it was eye-opening. So, she made the decision that the next person to unseal her would be her master. It wasn't definitive if the person who unsealed her was someone crazy, but Aki was fine. The spirit who was sealed while doing nothing significant or fulfilling for herself in her life longed for this freedom. You may say that tying yourself down to a master is the same thing as losing your freedom. But, a spirit has an indefinite lifespan so it isn't as permanent. This is also a decision made by the spirit herself out of interest, there isn't even much she wanted to accomplish in the first place on her own.

So, the spirit was unsealed by [Magical Girl Aki] and became loyal to her. She could even do this without any guilt because the [Spirit King] existed in a different world at the time. She begins her new life, fulfilling her wishes in a new world without having to worry about the world's order. That is Sino, the wind spirit.

Emma Enderich:

In a dimly lit office sat a seemingly young girl fiddling with the rim of her glasses on her lip. Her child-like face was somehow sharp with adult charm, bearing clear scarlet eyes and a mole beneath her left-right eye. Her medium-length black hair, contoured by shadows, fell on her shoulders. Wearing a coffee-colored coat, similar trousers, and a standard white shirt underneath, her profession of 'detective' was recognizable.

A famous detective that takes tasks and troubles from various world governments, [Emma Enderich]. Before [First Contact], she spent her days cracking unsolvable crimes and infamous mysteries around the world. A woman fitting of being called a 'genius.' But then, when [First Contact] and [Curses] broke out, the common sense of Earth was swallowed and vomited on its side. Thus, the perfect work was cut out for Emma. Not a job for the scientists nor the police, a job for her.

The girl quickly unraveled the origins of [Magical Girls] and [Focals]. One who joined her along the way was the [Bloody Wall of Might Nodoka], a well-known [Magical Girl]. This prodigy then stumbled upon one of the most intriguing mysteries in recent, the identity of the [Ethereal Princess of Darkness Aki]. Then, she found it...and there was no doubt. The two went to go see the real Aki immediately. The really surprising part was that she knew who they were...personally...

Airi Harada POV:

I was nearly killed a few years ago, I was lucky to even survive. The cause was a truck smashing into our car at full speed. Mom and dad died instantly but only I suffered fatal injuries that left me to die in minutes. It happened when we were coming home late at night, looking like a complete accident. But, I determined that it was not an accident. Somebody for some reason wanted me dead, likely the people or comrades of them who I locked up before.

A normal kid would not be locking up criminals though. This is me, a so-called prodigy. I have a knack for using my brain and solving tough cases with the evidence on hand. My skills were so good that I was acknowledged by and entered the government at a young age, secretly from my family as to protect them. To protect my identity, I took up the name 'Emma Enderich.'

It seems my abilities in surfacing truths were so world-shaking that I became famous all throughout the world governments and I began solving requests from each of them. I believe I was doing good work with the talents bestowed upon me. But, it somehow came back to bite me that one day.

I was losing blood quickly with multiple broken bones. There would be no way to heal this wound with the time on hand. So, I thought my last thoughts and reflected on my short life. Did I do well I wonder? The moments flashing through my fuzzy eyes were not me busting criminals and working in a cramped office. They were of my family, mom, dad, and Onii-chan. My beloved Onii-chan...apathetic, awkward, and unsure but still my brother all the same. I wanted to see him more, but I guess that would be impossible at this moment. As my consciousness faded, I heard a voice, cold and mechanical as the blowing sea.

"Do you want to be saved?"

"...of course I do. I have someone who is precious to me."

"I see, well I guess that would be obvious. Now stay still, this will be over and I'll be gone before you know it."

"..."

Words could no longer come out of my fading mouth.

"I'm sorry, but this is your choice."

The girl who was telling this to me sounded like someone a few years older than my brother at the time. It was a sorrowful voice. She then came closer to my neck, I began to wonder what she was about to do.

*nom*

I was bitten.

"Eh!?"

Even my powerless throat couldn't help but make a sound. I felt a sharp sting on my neck where two points were opened like I was bitten by fangs. She quickly removed her face from my neck and walked off mysteriously. I see...a vampire. I heard about them before because I have access to a lot of the government's confidential info but to think I would see and be saved by one here. As if she ensured my safety and my will to live, I fell into the darkness of deep sleep while entrusting it all to the voice who saved me.

I awoke in a hospital bed, but it wasn't any normal hospital bed. My entire body was also shackled to the frame.

"What is this?"

I contemplated.

"Have you awaken, Emma Enderich? No, Harada-san."

"Nakamura-san..."

My acquaintance who's a Japanese government official. The one who introduced my talent to the world.

"Do you remember what happened?"

"I was in an accident...and my parents."

"Sorry."

"It's fine."

I wiped the tears from my eyes and put on my business face sternly.

"I'll get straight to the point, you became a vampire."

"I was saved by one last night, yes. If not for a vampire's abnormal regeneration speed I would never have made it."

Vampire's existence is a confidential secret held by the higher-ups of the world. One that was kept even before my arrival. Vampires are a mutated species of human that have superior mana manipulation properties. Their physical ability is better and they can spread through biting others. In exchange, they gain an insatiable thirst for human blood. (Note: If you say that's not how evolution works ITS MAGIC - the mana adapted to the will of humans)

The government takes in all the vampires they find but they're good at hiding so there aren't many. Most of them won't talk either as long as things are kept ethical. Even now, not much is known about vampires by the government, just that they exist.

"That is exactly it. We can't let vampires be running wild and making more so we're putting you under strict supervision. Sorry, but know that this decision was lessened by your standing."

It seems my actions eased the consequences of my life.

"I know. Am I going to have to continue my work as a detective?"

"Yes...we'll give you anything necessary for that."

"I see, I'm fine being supervised but at least let me see my last family...my brother."

"Sorry, but no can do."

"Why?"

"You're constrained to this building. Sorry, but this is our rule for vampires."

"Can I contact my brother? Can he come here?"

"We've already confirmed your death. He should be under the impression that you died in the accident."

"Why!? What good reason is there to do that? I'm right here!"

"But you are a vampire, a special specimen for the government that needs extra care. It would also be shocking for people to see someone who should've died in a car accident come back as healthy as ever."

I wasn't used to being treated like this, so I couldn't go along with it.

"I can't see my brother nor contact him, what is this..."

"You'll do all your detective work online through this building as well. Whatever you need we can get it for you. I'm sorry Harada-san, I really am."

"I don't need your pity. Get out of here, I don't feel like seeing anyone."

I surrendered my body to the softness of the bed even though the shackles were uncomfortable. I turn into a 'specimen' for the government and am still used for my abilities. I'm no better than a tool...well how is that any different than how I was before?

"I guess in the end I'm powerless..."

Is this what the girl who saved me meant when she said sorry? I don't know.
