Chapter 17: Kitten (2)

Peter liked his suit a lot, as it turned out, but Enrique sensed an ominous feeling in the air – as if he was being watched. His heightened eyesight and hearing didn't catch anything though. But since it might be a strong enemy and also since the night was getting darker anyway – he suggested Peter to leave for home.

“Huh? But I wanna test out the suit!” Peter protested, making Enrique deadpan.

“Your friends took quite a few pictures, imagine if your aunt saw any of them. She must be confused. You really want to be late on top of that?” Enrique asked, watching the boy blink before shaking his head. “That's what I thought. Now leave.”

Peter sighed and swung off to the distance. After he did, Enrique took a flight around the building to locate who was looking at him but found no one. Huh. Weird. Soon the gaze vanished too. Just to be sure, he followed Peter from a distance – in case the enemy moved after Peter, but found no one. Then again, Peter would know before him if he was in danger. Spider Tingle was sharper than Enrique’s senses.

Enrique made sure Peter reached his home, and even then the gaze was nowhere to be found.

[”Don’t worry about it, I know who that was.”] his Goddess spoke suddenly. [“You will know who later,”]

Oh nice, mysteries. God, he hated those.

Enrique gave Anna a call to make sure everything was fine on her end, and when he confirmed that he decided to return home. It was indeed getting late.

He had saved 6 people today but gained no believers except for Spider-Man. Mostly because he wasn't trying to recruit believers like that anymore – he was moving his game up. He would first get his hand on a ton of money and then form a crime syndicate. After that, gaining believers will be easy.

Though rather than ‘building’ a syndicate, taking over an already established one sounded sweeter, and smarter. He already had a name in mind, too. Just that, he wasn't going the full-out villain route yet. He needed a secondary, secret identity, to play the villain first. Stabilise things first before revealing his true identity – that way if the plan failed his hero image wouldn't be ruined.

…!

‘Hm?’

Enrique blinked as his eyes caught a black flash in the distance. Huh. He almost didn't notice because of how dark the night was, but there was part of white around the black form which gave in to Enrique’s eyes.

He was fairly certain that person wasn't the one spying on him until now, but that didn't mean they were ‘normal’ either, given how effortlessly they were running by the rooftop of buildings.

Closing distance, Enrique heard the sound of police sirens all around the streets, and there was even a car waiting in the direction the person was heading to. Looking around, Enrique found police cars around a jewellery shop that had gone haywire.

Aha.

Black & white and police & jewels.

That narrowed things down a bit too much.

—-—

Shit.’ Felicia Hardy, currently under the disguise of Black Cat, cursed in her mind as she ran from one rooftop to another. ‘And they say police is never on time.

Turns out they were lying.

Today was her first day at this job— where she succeeded in her late father’s work. The art of Burgling. She thought she would be fine as Spider-Man didn't come to this area often, and even if he did there were more important matters than catching a thief. She hadn't even considered the police, they were just that worthless. But shit, look at her now! She was surrounded. The moment she got down from the roofs she will be spotted.

And the raid was going so well too. Nobody noticed the ruby missing from its display before she was out of the shop, but a few police cars just had to be chilling in the corner! Shit! She blamed that Superhero guy for this. If he hadn't come to her school today, making a useless crowd around the entrance which delayed her from leaving earlier and also made her annoyed, her guard wouldn't be low and this wouldn't have happened.

“Nice leg work, you are not even stumbling.”

She stumbled to her feet and barely caught herself from hitting the floor face first. She turned around, frightened that Spider-Man was here— but that turned out to not be the case. However, she didn't feel relieved. Someone a lot more dangerous than the friendly spider had appeared.

In a suit whiter than snow, with a flashy lightning symbol on his chest, Supernova floated in front of her as his cape fluttered behind him.

Shit. Of all people, it had to be the guy who looked like he did justice for breakfast.

“Uh,” Black-Cat smiled nervously, sitting up swiftly. “Hi?”

“I don’t get it,” Supernova said and dropped in front of her, leaning over to her. At the sudden gesture, she closed her eyes in fright— remembering how ruthless this man was, but he just grabbed the pouch from her belt before taking out what she stole. A red, gleaming ruby. “What’s up with cats and jewels? Cats and burglars too.”

Aha… Black-Cat relaxed somewhat. He seemed chatty, she could use that to flee. But of course, not without getting the ruby back. She won’t give up her first hunt so easily.

“Your first crime?” the man asked, and she nodded quickly— hoping to get a safe ticket out by doing so. “Ah. Then should I perhaps send you to rehab? Maybe that'd fix your habits before they grow uncontrollable?”

Shit.

This bastard was crazy. Wait, she could just play innocent!

Black-Cat stood up, dusting off her jacket as she walked over to him confidently. "Why rehab?" she asked as she threw her arms around him. "Could you not fix little old me by yourself?"

…Uh. Was this playing innocent? Maybe she mixed things up. But there was no going back now.

"Depends on the problem we are facing," the man replied as he put an arm around her waist, leaning closer to her.

Nice, her trick worked.

She smirked. "I suffer from the disease of not being touched today. Perhaps you could help me, lightning?"

She was beautiful. Electrifyingly so. She had ignored the opposite gender since her first year in high school when she got drunk at a party and was almost raped by one of her classmates. Luckily it turned out she wasn't a normal human– she had cat-like abilities that came along with a healing factor of its own. Her drowsiness vanished because of that power, and luckily she was in time as the hot hadn't gotten the chance to do anything to her beyond undressing her. She had kicked the guy in the balls and ran. Since that incident, she had avoided everyone in her school. Though contrary to some of her classmates, she didn't hate men, just the kids and teenagers in particular. They were too weak against their hormonal desires.

However, in front of a dashing grown-up man like this guy, she saw no reason to not use her body as a weapon. Her goal was to grab her ruby and run. He could fly, but she was more flexible. She would figure out some way.

"The kitty wants to be touched?" Supernova said, his one hand cupping her fleshy butt shamelessly while his other one scratched her lower chin with a finger, making her moan accidentally.

'Oh shit. What the fuck?' Felicia cursed in her head. Did she have a cat's typical weaknesses too? She never noticed that since tickling herself didn't work.

The hero raised an eyebrow at her sudden moan and squeezed her butt harder, going for another scratch attack under her chin. However, she was ready this time, she held back the moan and rather twisted her body to throw her leg around the man's neck, forcing him down on the floor, as she grabbed the ruby from his hand and tried to make a run for it.

But she couldn't run.

His cape had wrapped around her waist, and his hand had grabbed her arm.

"Cute." He looked at her with an amused smile. "But slow."

In desperation, she straightened the fingers of her other hand – activating her powers – causing her nails to grow and sharpen as she swiped it at his face.

He grabbed her hand before it could reach his face, stopping her claws just an inch from his head, and staring at her face in fascination.

"Whoa, look," he said, looking on top of her head where… her ears had popped up. That was the side effect of bringing out her claws. "You are actually a real cat-girl. But why are your ears white-furred? Tail too? Why do you call yourself a black cat, then?"

Shit, he saw her cat-form! How embarrassing.

"Also, I wouldn't suggest attacking me with claws. They will snap and it will hurt. The last guy who did so can confirm my claims." He warned her, releasing her as he came closer to her, reaching out a hand to feel her ears. She could do nothing but let him do that – given she just realised the power gap between them – containing a moan as he caressed her ears. "Mhm. It's real. Weird… Did a cat bite you?"

What was he talking about?

"I don't know…" Felicia decided to answer anyway, hoping to buy some time. "They just appeared one day. Maybe I am a mutant or came in touch with some weird chemical I am not aware of. I have no idea."

"Right," he nodded and let her ears go. "Different... Anyway, I am not aware of your financial situation but stop stealing and focus on your studies instead." he handed her over her ruby. "Next time I won't let you go so easily."

…She had a feeling he actually will. Maybe a bit harsher, but he didn't seem the type who would throw her fine ass in prison. Also, she was financially better off than most people in America. She did this because she liked doing this. Though she probably shouldn't tell him that.

"Alright," she said, accepting the ruby and quickly pocketing it before pulling her claws back in, therefore making her ears and tail vanish. Then she turned around and jumped on the wall. "Thanks for keeping me up here, the cops are gone. May we meet again on a stormy night, lightning!"

Then she jumped off the roof.

—-

Pretty. She was beautiful.

Enrique shook his head. "No, let's not lose focus."

["Lose focus? Amongst the four girls you have interacted the most since coming here,"] his Goddess spoke in his ears. ["Three of them have white hair, while another's hair is partially white too. Heck, your hair turns white in your beast-form, too. Is that your type?"]

Enrique deadpanned. "Okay, let's debunk your claim. The first woman, you– I didn't meet out of my own will. You pulled me here. Secondly, Anna's hair wasn't my fault. Third, I didn't want to sexually harass Storm, you told me to. Fourth, encountering Black Kitty was purely random. Lastly, fuck you."

He explained the situation, but she just scoffed. ["Excuses."]

…How could a Goddess be like this?

No wonder her Pantheon fell.

In any case, Black-Cat was as interesting as she was pretty. Unlike the Black-Cat he remembered, she had actual cat-like powers. What's up with that?

Perhaps was she already, somehow, experimented on by the Kingpin like in one of the comics? If so, did she have Bad Luck powers too? If that's the case, he should probably stay away from her. That's one reason he let her go quickly instead of playing Tom&Jerry with her.

So many questions yet so few answers.

Not seeing any point in spending any more time here, Enrique decided to fly to his home.
