38: Game On The Horizon [02]
—
As the placeholder text—which would be a logo of the [Parker Industries]—passed by, another screen appeared. A man was sitting next to a treasure box, looking at it lovingly while he caressed its surface with his hands. As that passed by, a few buttons popped up.
A simple [Play] button, a [Settings] button, a [Sounds] button—which was grayed out right now since Peter had yet to add sounds in the game—a [Shop] button, and finally, a [Leaderboard] appeared on the screen.
Peter simply clicked on the [Play] button and every other button vanished from the screen, replaced by a single “II” like icon in a corner indicating a pause menu.
Anyways, the man—which was a model of a certain treasure hunter—who had been caressing the treasure box, opened it and took out a ruby. His eyes glittered with excitement at his found before they turned to horror as the ‘treasure’ box, turned into a big spider monster and started chasing behind the man.
Peter smiled.
This spider was there because he remembered her from that time when he had to embrace her. And it was a perfect scenario in his mind when he was building this game. So, he made changes to how the original game was supposed to look and added this spider monster instead of the original.
Anyways, as the big spider chased behind the man, the long track appeared in front and the control was given to Peter. As Peter had to test this game thousands of times when he was making it, he could easily go over every obstacle. Anyways, after the initial tutorial, Peter was left stranded running and being chased by a spider monster.
Peter played the game for a while, all while his eyes scanned for any error or bug he could spot. Fortunately, there were none as for now, but It wouldn’t be the same, Peter was sure of it.
Peter’s character went through different kinds of environments.
Starting from the temple, of course. Then, it was into a forest, onto a river, and then a desert. Peter had added many other environments there as well. He would also add more once the game hits the internet.
First, Peter needed to register his business.
Why? Because Peter wasn’t going to stop just at this game. His yet-to-be-made [Parker Industries] would be something big in the future—at least, that’s his plan.
Anyways, that could be done once he was ready to launch his game—which he wasn’t at the time. Anyways, Peter’s character got caught by the spider, which literally plunged its teeth into his chest. It should’ve been gory, and messy, but due to the graphics—which weren’t really that good considering it was late 2007—the scene looked quite funny.
Peter sighed, quit the game, and threw the phone in his [Inventory] before he brought his hands in front of his vision and golden light started coming out of them.
This, right here, was magic.
Mystic Arts.
Peter had managed to learn quite a lot of spells in this short span of time, and it was mostly because of how good of a teacher Magik turned out to be. The golden light around Peter’s hand moved, wriggled, and transformed into a construct similar to a shuriken made out of golden light.
It was wonderful to look at.
Then, Peter willed it to morph into something else—a katana.
It was relatively harder to do since he wasn’t that proficient in using Mystic Energy, but it turned into a katana. Peter caught it in hand and tested its sharpness. It wasn’t dull, but it wasn’t sharp either. Peter knew that it could be stronger and sharper, but he still needed a lot of practice as well as knowledge to do that.
Peter swung the katana made out of light in the air a few times before un-summoning it, which was easy enough as he just had to think of it vanishing and it would, not before exploding outwards into harmless sparks. Which were a byproduct of accessing Eldritch Energy more than anything else.
After Peter was done admiring his work, he couldn’t help but chuckle and close his eyes, content with the improvement he’d made in such a short span of time. Then, he promptly fell asleep, dreaming of one particular dolphin.
***
Peter woke up early in the morning, did his morning rituals, and worked on his game for a while before making his way down to eat with May. Then, as he was done with eating, he kissed May goodbye and walked to school—actually, he might’ve just opened up a portal to one of the many secluded areas near the school and went his way about in the school like any other normal student.
Peter had, for the most part, been ignoring Ned during the last 2 weeks. There was a simple reason behind that. Ned was smart when it came to things related to computers and technology in general, so Peter was pretty sure that the chubby fellow would figure out that he was making a game.
Peter, being not ready to show his final product—which is the game, of course—didn’t want Ned to know about it for now. Ned would help him with it, sure, but Peter wanted to complete his first project on his own since he knew that the projects coming after would mostly be done by the employees he’d hire.
So, he at least wanted to start the company and then hire people. He could give them the ideas he got from the future, and they could make that stuff in his stead and earn him the money he wanted so much.
Anyways, back to track, Peter entered the school and quickly made his way to the locker. Locker #1182.
Peter was always kind of curious about how some things could work in this world.
He was way early in the time compared to when Peter should actually be in school. So, how was the locker number the same as he remembered from the movie? It was quite a peculiar thing.
After he was done putting a few things in the locker, he locked it and turned around.
“Hi, Peter. Good to see you here.” Ned said blankly.
Peter almost punched him in the face due to the small surprise he felt, but contained himself and gave him a small smile.
“Hey, Ned. How’ve you been?”
“Fine,” Ned said grumpily, not meeting his eyes.
Peter sighed, rolling his eyes.
‘What are you, my girlfriend or something?’ Peter thought. Why was Ned being grumpy? Probably because Peter had ignored the shit out of him.
“Listen, Ned,” Peter said, deciding to make this quick since he didn’t have time for this shit. “Flash hit on Gwen, I beat him up and got a suspension. And I couldn’t contact you because I was busy with something—which is a surprise for you, actually.”
Ned gave him a look that roughly translated to: ‘Do I look dumb to you?’
“Listen, Peter,” Ned said, imitating Peter’s tone. “I know Flash hit on Gwen, and that you beat him up. The news was pretty hot for a few days. And I knew you were busy with something; you wouldn’t have ignored me otherwise.”
“Then why are you grumpy?”
“You didn’t let me in that secret project of yours. Surprises be damned, man! I want a part in it!”
“No,” Peter deadpanned.
“Anyway,” he said, sighing. “Latest hot news?”
“On it, sir,” Ned said in a deep, dark voice, smirking.
“First, you’re pretty famous now that you beat Flash up, and since people saw you with that new haircut and some even recorded the fight, you’ve become quite popular with the ladies,” Ned said with a tinge of jealousy.

“Second, Harry and Flash got dumped, which means that gold-digger and Liz are up in the market. Quite a lot of boys tried but no one succeeded.”
Whoa. Peter wowed. That was news. Peter wasn’t sure how they’d react after getting fucked by him, but he didn’t know that it could be this big a decision. Why did they dump Harry and Flash though? it seemed a collective decision of the girls—they’d probably talked it out together.
“Third, a new English teacher is here. She’s super-hot, by the way. Came after three days of your suspension.”
A new teacher? Meh.
Peter shrugged his shoulders as they walked to their class together all while Ned kept briefing him of the news.
“Fourth, Harry got yelled at by his dad in front of the school, and a lot of students watched.”
“Damn,” Peter muttered, his gaze following a particular someone.
“Damn. I know right? Harry being yelled at by his dad, it was the best thing that happened that day-”
“Not that, Ned,” Peter said before he pointed at her with his chin. “I’m talking about her.”
Felicia Hardy.
She was walking by and was coming towards them.
“Oh…” Ned muttered, looking at her before continuing with his ‘report’.
“And finally, I got a girlfriend.”
Peter stumbled, choking the words he was about to say.
“What!?”
“Yeah,” Ned smirked, looking down at him. “I’ve gone to the dark side too. Muhahaha!”
Felicia was just passing by them and heard what they were saying. She looked at Ned, then Peter. She rolled her eyes, scoffed, and continued her walk, thinking: ‘Fucking teenagers, all the same, horny bastards.’ She was particularly annoyed today.
“Who’s the lucky girl?” Peter asked after his initial shock, he was kind of happy for his friend.
“Betty,” Ned said with a smile and a small blush.
Peter strained a smile and Felicia stiffened.
Peter was somewhat relieved that he hadn’t targeted Betty yet. Now that he knew she was Ned’s official girlfriend, he wouldn’t try anything on her. Even though back then, he wanted to fuck her and cuck Ned, his mind was a bit different now. He didn’t want to fuck her anymore.
Felicia, on the other hand, twirled on her heel as her white hair swayed behind her beautifully before she stomped her way toward them, an annoyed look on her face—which was particularly pouty today.
She grabbed Ned by the back of his shoulder and forced him around to face her.
“What did you say?” she glared at him.
“Wh-what?” Ned fumbled.
“What. Did. You. Just. Say. Now?” Felicia said, stressing each word.
Ned was, more than anything else, confused at her.
“That I have a girlfriend now?” he said, sounding unsure as to what he was supposed to tell her.
“WHO!?”
“B-Betty. Betty Brant.” Ned stuttered; what was wrong with this bitch?
Felicia’s face went through so many shades of red—which was mostly because of anger.
Peter frowned, his queen she might be, but she had no right to treat his homie like this. So, he grabbed her hand, gripped it a bit tightly, and looked down at her coldly.
“Let go.” He stated simply, and thwarted her hand away.
Felicia took back her hand, rubbing her wrist as she glared at Peter, squinting her eyes before she turned around and walked away in anger.
“That bitch dared…” She gritted her teeth, her eyes glistening slightly before she bit her lip and walked away.
“What’s wrong with her?” Ned asked, turning to give Peter an inquisitive look. “Thanks for that, by the way.”
“No problem,” Peter smiled. “And I don’t know what’s her problem.”
Peter and Ned both shrugged before getting into their first class.
As they sat down on their chairs, Peter looked around to spot someone. ‘Where is she?’
His gaze wandered to Flash, Harry, and then onto Michele Jones—who caught him glancing her way since her seat was practically behind his—before he finally spotted them.
Liz and MJ.
They were sitting together.
And they met his gaze—which he feigned as a cold one—when he looked at them. Surprisingly, both blushed and looked away before getting their head back in their books.
Peter chuckled.
