I had gotten used to living here for two months already. I could fully use the strength of my age now. The only issue is Yun An’s body doesn’t have the stamina for extended usage nor the resilience to endure the stress. If I try too forcefully, I could fracture my own bone. Still, it’s a good news. The only bad news is I haven’t gone far with my cultivation. 

 

Qi manipulation is still a long road. I had speculated that my stage of mind can play a vital role in understanding qi manipulation. Thus, I tried it when I was drowsy, when I was exhausted, even when I was drunk after drinking the wine senior Hua Cheng saved for me. To think that he would go that far, he is a caring person. Sadly, none of that worked.

 

Perhaps I will have to be patient and build up slowly. If it takes the same time as when I improved from Lower qi sensing to Middle qi sensing, then maybe two more months are necessary. Although, there is one more thing I haven’t tried-

 

“…what junior master? She couldn’t even use qi.”

Those two girls are in my age group, but their cultivation are two levels higher than mine. Gossips like that found their way into my hearing range far too often. I got too used to them to muster a feeling.

 

“Oh. Junior sister Yun An.” This guy is the master of those two girls.

 

He and his chums are another group of characters best not to pay any mind. It’s lunchtime, so they are likely heading to the dinning hall. To think we would meet like this… oh well, we are bound to run into each other anyway.

“This junior greets the seniors.”

 

“Junior sister. How is your cultivation?” His words have an air of ridicule.

 

“This junior thanks the senior for your care. This junior still hasn’t grown much.”

 

I haven’t dropped my greeting gesture yet, since there is nothing I want to read on his face. However, intuition tells me they are having fun, believing my action as being subservient.

 

“Well, junior sister. Don’t be sad. Cultivation is only for a selective few. While it’s nothing but a disgrace for the talentless men, you don’t need to worry too much. You are a girl after all.”

 

A play of words to call me talentless, I see. These guys aren’t worth my time nor my emotion.

 

“Anyway, we will be going for lunch. What about you, junior sister?”

 

“Yun An still has practice to do and will have lunch later.”

 

“Practice? What can we say except raising you for your diligence?”

 

“Just don’t try too hard and skip lunch. You will upset your stomach.” This guy joke is really plain. I hope someone tell him that.

 

“Ok, everyone. We shouldn’t keep her from her practice. We will be praying for your luck during lunch.”

 

“Yun An bids the senior good way.”

 

Truly the kind of attitudes nobody should waste their energy on.

 

The next day, the sect master gathered us in the courtyard. There is a big announcement.

 

“Every year, the city of Gudu holds a tournament for young cultivators of every corner to show off their progress. Each year we would send our representatives. Thanks to the honoured disciples’ hard work, Shadowless sect had become a stable name in the tournament. However, our results have always been mediocre. While it’s an admirable feat, we must not be content but aim for new height.

“Yun An.” Senior Tian Zhong was looking for me.

 

“Senior.”

 

“What are you planning to do?”

 

“What are you trying to say, senior?”

 

“Yun An. You are not planning to join the tournament, aren’t you?”

 

“As the sect master has said, it will expose my weaknesses. I can use it to improve myself.”

 

“Are you serious? Foundation-stage disciples had already given up. You will be facing people in far higher cultivation than you. It’s dangerous.”

 

“Senior, even those disciples would be facing people stronger than them too. I don’t find anything too strange with that.”

 

“Don’t tell me you don’t know. Our master is the senior of the sect master and the elders so the disciples keep things to themselves. However, you should have realised that a number of them are holding you in contempt. The fight is the perfect opportunity to dish out their disapproval. It is far too dangerous for you.”

 

“Senior. Yun An is happy that you would think about Yun An. However, I will fight.”

 

“Why?”

 

“Senior. I have been cultivating in the relative peace of the sect owing to the kindness of senior Hua Cheng and our master. However, it yielded little benefit. I can’t keep going like this. Sometimes, one has to push themselves on the line and overcome the hurdles.”

 

He doesn’t look convinced.

 

I add. “Moreover, senior, you know my strength. Do you think I will be helpless against them?”

 

“Not… entirely, but… it will be hard fights.”

 

“I was told to be a talentless girl-”

 

“What? Who!?”

 

“Don’t be bothered by that, senior. Besides, I am not saying that to complain.”

 

“Sorry. Go on.”

 

“As you know, a genius takes little time to achieve what a talentless person can do in years. To put it in another way, I just have to try harder. Also, I haven’t received any instruction from our master. If he hasn’t told me to quit, it means I am not in danger.” I smile gently. “And I know if I will be in danger, the master won’t sit tight.”
