“And these two…”
“I happened to see them while going down. They told me they want to see how Yun An deals with the trials. Can you believe the coincidence?”
Coincidence? That’s far fetched for someone like the sect master. He probably saw them waiting on the surface per Zhao Ren’s instruction and decided to give in to his curiosity. How the sect master knew those two would be near the cave is another mystery though. Xu Feng surmised.
However, any trial ground is far from the sect estate. He couldn’t have seen. What brought him to the cave in the first place? There shouldn’t be any unless he wanted to take a look. Fang Yun, did you have any part in this and why? Have you decided to break your neutral stance? Or had Zhao Ren done anything to evoke this situation?
It might not be the little exchange during Tie Ren and Lian Hua’s match. Fang Yun isn’t petty, else he would have joined the politics of our sect long ago. However, that time did mark one of the rare conflicts between Fang Yun and Zhao Ren. Fang Yun is kind, fair, and just. He was given the position of observer. There is a potential that he felt ticked off by Zhao Ren’s interference. If Xu Feng follows this train of thought, it begs the question. Why did he ask their master to take a closer look at Dong Yun An’s trials? What did Fang Yun expect to gain by requesting the sect master to be here?
Up until this point, the sect master has been playing the jellyfish. There aren't immediate threats to his position, allowing the waves of affairs to push him a bit. He wouldn’t work for or against Zhao Ren.
The sect master wouldn’t side with any faction but he wouldn’t above playing a role in their little game. The eccentric sect master of them seems to want some dramas.
If Fang Yun wanted the sect master to be here, he must have assumed that his presence would be detrimental to Zhao Ren’s plan. What would he do that could possibly jeopardise Zhao Ren’s work? Knowing how he would act is much harder than predicting the weather. No. Maybe it’s because the sect master is such a wild card that having him here will cause trouble for Zhao Ren?
“Senior. It seems I had interrupted your disciple’s trial. Let’s watch together, shall we?”
“Indeed. Let’s watch. Yun An. Go on.”
“Yes, master.”

Yun An steps forth. Qi is infused into her foot, chest, and arm. To have to protect her chest, the wounds around that part ought to have worsened. Why else would she do that against images that don’t fight back?
Three qi images around her stature condensed into being. They appear human-like, down to their clothes. Without qi sensing, one can differentiate them by their more transparent visage.
Yun An gets right into her task. Being the passive one for the majority in her matches, this is rare to see her initiate a fight. She throws punches, tries grappling, and even tears in the air with her sword. Those attempts were either dodged or blocked. Since these images are full on defense, it became far harder to manage a meaningful hit.
While Yun An was reflecting on her previous encounter, the images go into recovery mode. The minor injuries from her attacks grazing past them or landing on their block are entirely restored. She pays no mind to those little gains and spends half an hour contemplating.
A few discontent whispers condemn her for stalling, but there is no time limit. There was one time a cultivator from the past was tossed out for wasting a daytime. It’s just not major enough for any penalty. If the onlookers say they have other things to do, they are free to go. There only needs one person to witness.
Yun An finally gets up. There are a few changes. She abandons the sword, and the qi concentrates on her two feet and her chest. Some wonder if she considered using kicks.
Neither Yun An nor anyone in the sect utilises kicks. There are some cheeky fellows that add kicks to their fighting style like Yin Yu, but kicks are just supplements. They are not the primary actor. Hence, everyone sits up after seeing Yun An’s new arrangement.
Contrary to everybody’s expectations, she attacks with a punch. She uses purely her fists with no enhancement from qi. Even so, with her feet as the pillars and her torso handling the feedback, Yun An pulls out some great fist.
The pain that occasionally twists her eyebrows is likely from the bone fractures that hadn’t healed. The aftermath of Fang Xin’s fight pulls down her performance. Despite little progress with the trial, she pushes on. Her form gradually improves, so is the weight of her fists.
The images change from parrying her attacks to evading her punches altogether. When a clean hit crashes onto one, the image is blown into the wall. Even the disturbance of the air turns dangerous. One image has its shirt sleeve ripped despite avoiding her fist at the last second.
