“One Point Sword!”

 

The young boy’s sword produces a fist-wide qi beam. Tearing the wind, it smashes straight into the back of the beast’s skull.

 

The boar-like creature squealed painfully. Its bull-size body flees in full force, leaving a trail of blood. What a resilient animal.

 

The young man who’s hopping from tree to tree, pursuing the wounded beast, is my senior brother, Tian (field as in rice field/crop field) Zhong (loyal). Such manuver is dangerous. One wrong move could cost him a leg. I do have to give it the merit though. Having a better view is an advantage in this prey chasing.

 

As for why I am running after him, it’s because I was requested to accompany. Two days ago, senior brother begged the master to travel to this region for beast hunting. He wanted me to go with him. He reasoned that such an opportunity would be useful for my cultivation.

 

While I am unsure about the relative safetiness of the method, I do find logic in his argument. My cultivation has been difficult. My master said it’s rare that one is stuck in the 1st level of Foundation stage for more than a month. To paraphrase, I suck at cultivating.

 

However, the last month has not been wasteful. While I couldn’t advance my cultivation, my strength is slowly matching that of my past life. My master did notice my physical improvement, it was why he allowed my senior brother to take me.

 

According to my master, the 1st level of Foundation realm is Lower qi sensing. Thus, I am able to detect the invisible qi that my senior used to boost his attack during the last sword strike or when the boar buffed up its muscle to run away. I even see very weak qi coming out of trees and plants. If I want to see what those trees and plants store, I will have to reach Upper qi sensing at the 8th level.

 

The level I am trying to break through is Middle qi sensing. It will allow me to tell the concentration of qi. Master tells me to keep concentrating on qi sensing. Practice is the only way to improve. He believes I will have deeper focus while hunting demon beasts.

 

This ability has its use. My five senses and mind were top-notch but Dong Yun An’s senses aren’t. At the moment, I have only a mind that was trained to process simulation at greater pace, but no trained sensory organs to collect the information. This is where qi sensing comes in.

 

My senior jumped down from the tree. Our chase is done. We walk up to the dying beast. It loses a lot of blood. While unable to move and is barely conscious, it is alive.

 

Senior Zhong holds the sword with two hands with the tip points down. I witness qi coating the sword’s edge. Then in one decisive act, he ended its suffering.

 

He quickly cut open its body. While the amount of qi he is spending to butcher is much lesser than when he used One Point Sword, the blade went smoothly. The concentrated attack only managed to break its skull but this current cutting is so nonchalant. The protective qi of the beast was truly a nuisance.

 

After digging through the creature, senior brother tosses me a small colorless stone.

“That’s the qi stone. You will find it in the heart. Clean it properly and we can sell it.”

 

“What does it do, senior brother?”

 

“After refining, it can be used to improve your cultivation. Being raw, it is useless to us.” He cleans the sword then returns it inside the scabbard. “If you’re done, we’ll continue.”

 

“What about the carcass, senior brother?”

 

“That’s a demon beast. Its flesh is filled with evil qi. Eating it will ruin your body.”

 

“So this entire creature is only worth a small stone.”

 

“This tuskless boar is the weakest demon beast. While its hide can be somewhat useful, we are not ones who could process or carry it around. Just let the other beasts take care of it. It’s a demon beast, not a normal animal.”

 

We go on with our hunt. It wasn’t long before we recognised a presence nearby. Looking from the cover of the bush, another tuskless boar came into view. This one is a third the size of the previous one. It’s slimmer and roughly my height.

 

“This one isn’t worth it. Let’s go.”

 

“Senior brother. Can you let me hunt this one?”

 

Senior Zhong stares at me with a doubtful look. “And how do you intend to hunt it? You haven’t learned sword art, nor do you have a weapon. You can’t even manipulate qi.”

 

Qi manipulation belongs to the 3rd level. I will have to train more to do that. For weapon, I do have something. It’s Yun An’s cooking knife which I sharpened before this trip. It can cut really good, at least in one strike, although I have the feeling he wouldn’t take it as a weapon.

 

He shakes his head. “Be patient and wait till you reach the 3rd level.”

 

We keep hunting the boars while moving deeper into the forest. Along the way, he taught me about the variety of demon beasts, their characteristics, and the location of their qi stone. My stone harvest lessons were put into practice.
