“Welcome to the estate.”
A black-haired maid elegantly greeted the guests with a straight back and a gentle bend of her knees, demonstrating a model curtsy.
However, the two girls receiving the greeting paid it no attention and were instead looking around in shock.
“Was Luciana’s mansion… always like this?”
“But the last time we visited, it was more-“
“More like a haunted mansion?”
“Luciana!”
A lone girl appeared from atop the staircase in the entrance hall: Luciana Luthorburg, the daughter of a count, the person who invited the two, and the resident of this mansion.
“Welcome, Beatrice, Miliaria. Thank you for coming today. I am very pleased to have you two here.”
Luciana gracefully descended the stairs, showing off the trademark smile of a model noble.
“Lu-Luciana… you…”
The girl with chestnut-colored hair styled in a single braid was the daughter of a viscount, Beatrice Lilyrutocrus.
“Miss Luciana, you look… absolutely stunning..”
And the girl with purple-blue hair was the daughter of a baron, Miliaria Farancult
The two guests, Luciana’s closest friends from childhood, could not hide their amazement; the Luciana they remembered differed greatly from the Luciana before them.
The noble house of Luthorburg, though the most powerful family after the duke and marquis households, were fallen nobility whose precedessors’ failures cost the house their fortune. The dire finances meant Luciana was to go without finery and education.
However, the current Luciana displayed a refined demeanor befitting a young lady from a count household.
She was wearing what appeared to be a brand-new and tailor-made vivd green dress. Her wavy hair, down to its ends, shined like the sun while her lustrous white skin accented her soft pink lips.
As she turned her jewel-like blue eyes down, Luciana kept a straight back as she carefully bent her knees: another curtsy.
“Welcome to the Luthorburg residence. We are pleased to receive you.”
The two unconsciously gasped in admiration; who would guess these three girls were the same age? Luciana demonstrated such elegant conduct…
“Melody, we shall be at the terrace. Please prepare the tea.”
“Certainly, my lady”
After a bow to Luciana, the black-haired maid called Melody left.
Luciana then led the girls to the terrace.
The Luthorburg family villa, located in the royal capital of the Kingdom of Theolas, had the beauty of a newly constructed building.
The villa’s current appearance confused the two ladies who remembered a radically different looking home.
“Is this really the same house we visited, that ‘haunted mansion’?”
The girls’ confusion was understandable. Just two weeks ago, when the girls arrived for a tea party, this certainly was a house rundown enough to be described as a haunted house.
“I wonder, what really happened here? What do you think, Miliaria?”
“Well, honestly, I have no clue. Let us ask once we have arrived at the terrace, Miss Beatrice.”
“I suppose there is no other choice. But are we really going to that terrace?”
“…the estate may be beautiful now, but I am still quite worried.”
The nightmare that was the derelict Luthorburg terrace came to mind: a yard fallen to neglect, the overgrown ivy choking the table set. Without a gardener in employ, the garden was an inappropriate venue for entertaining guests.
And on that particular day, a shrieking as a spider had dropped down from the eaves… what a terrible memory.
“How wonderful! It is like a fairy garden!”
“This is truly beautiful… our house’s own garden should be wider, but here it feels much larger.”
The garden that was as dense as a small forest no longer existed.
By adjusting the perspective using the arrangement of the trees, the entire garden appeared larger and more open. In addition, meticulous pruning gave way to a more beautiful view of the sunlight streaming in.
Furthermore, eye-catching shrubbery in the shape of various animals decorated various spots.
At the terrace, the girls were enjoying the maid’s brewed tea. Beatrice gave a broad smile over the fragrant scent.
“My, what a lovely aroma!”
“Yes, indeed. The flavor is also wonderful. But is it truly fine to use such high-quality tea leaves?”
Nobles are quite fond of tea, but tea is also quite expensive. At Luciana’s previous party, the tea was of the lowest quality, reflecting the lowest cost, and was quite simply not of good flavor. Was it truly fine to be serving a more expensive tea this time?
“Fufufu! Please rest assured, this is the same tea we served before!”
“Huh?!”
In the face of Luciana’s proud smile, the two are unable to hide their shock. The rich scent, the smoothness down the throat, and, most importantly, the taste that satisfies the tongue… this was from that blend of lowest-quality-lowest-cost tea leaves?! Unbelievable!
“What in the world are you talking about? How could this be the same tea from before…”
“Your doubt is quite natural, Beatrice. However, even for low quality tea leaves, the method of brewing is also extremely important. Isn’t that right, Melody?”
Luciana beamed with a ladylike smile as she directed the question to the maid behind her.
“Yes, that is correct, my lady. No matter how expensive the tea leaves may be, an improper brew will not make a delicious tea. The opposite is also true, and that is where a maid can demonstrate her power.
“Beatrice and Mirialia stared in astonishment at the delighted, smiling Melody… Come to think of it, this was the first time they have seen this maid, as she was not present at the previous tea party. It was only now they had this thought.”
“Miss Luciana, could you explain what exactly is going on?”
“That’s right! Everything has changed completely from two weeks ago! Please explain yourself!”
“From the estate to the tea, to Luciana herself, what caused a complete reform and restoration? As the two questioned her, Luciana gently put a finger to her mouth.”
“Fufufu, that’s a little secret!”
” “That’s so mean!” “

Even if there was a reason, it was normal for nobles to keep secrets to themselves. They themselves also withheld family matters, so although they complained to Luciana, they did not question her further.
“Well, that is fine. However, shouldn’t you do something about the way you speak right about now?”
“Indeed. It is very elegant and ladylike, but it is not like Luciana at all.”
Seeing as the two would not give up questioning her, Luciana peeked back at Melody, who smiled and gave a small nod. Luciana let out a sigh of relief.
“Haa… I was very ladylike, right? I did my best, you know!”
Luciana shed her refined demeanor, completely changing her noble lady’s smile to a more cheerful and light-hearted grin.
“Fufufu, there it is! I thought you were someone else at first”
“It was fresh and lovely, but I prefer the usual Luciana!”
“Is that so? Thanks! Then I’ll hold back on ‘Lady Luciana’ until the Spring Ball”
Luciana, still wearing her usual expression, stood from her seat to give another curtsy. The gap between her innocent smile and her elegant curtsy was quite the amusing sight.
The tea party for three continued peacefully until the time finally came for Miliaria and Beatrice to return home.
“The next time we will see each other would be the Royal Academy’s entrance ceremony right? See you then, Luciana!”
“And after the entrance ceremony we will be making our social debut at the Spring Ball. I’m looking forward to it!”
“Yes, let’s meet at the entrance ceremony”
The three were smiling as they said their goodbyes, and the sight of the Miliaria and Beatrice boarding their carriages marked the end of Luciana’s peaceful tea party.
Melody was already waiting at the entrance hall when Luciana returned.
“Milady, let’s tidy your hair before dinner. Please return to your room”
“Melody…”
Since Luciana had hosted her tea party out on the terrace all day, exposure to the wind had disheveled her hair.
Combing their master’s hair was one of a maid’s responsibilities, but the servants of the Luthorburg house were far too busy. It was Melody who took the initiative to properly dress and care for Luciana.
Thus it was inevitable that Luciana would rush over to the maid that granted her wish! (or so Luciana claims)
“Thank you! Melody!”
“Kyaaaaaa!? You musn’t hug a maid, milady!”
“But I’m so happy! Thanks to Melody, the tea party was a success! Thank you!”
Two weeks ago, when Beatrice and Millaria visited, the mansion truly was closer to a haunted house, and Luciana had been a “wasted beauty” with unpolished potential.
The one who changed everything was the maid, Melody, as Luciana said.
“I understand, so please behave yourself! It is improper for a young lady to recklessly hug someone like this!”
“Fufufu, its fine, its fine! Its not costing you anything!”
“Where did you learn something like that!?”
Luciana’s unabashed glee showed no signs of stopping, and Melody, after a moment of bewilderment, took on a much colder tone.
“…This is no good. I must have you redo the etiquette lessons and noble training.”
“Kyaaaaaaa! I-I’m sorry! Anything but that!”
Luciana immediately let go of Melody and raised up both hands. Cold sweat beaded on her forehead.
Melody’s eyes sparkled as she looked over Luciana; Luciana’s heart skipped a beat.
“I-it’s f-fine! I’ll be sure to do everything as trained when in a formal setting! So please, forgive me!”
“…Is that so?”
Luciana nodded repeatedly. Even just remembering Melody’s noble training was… to say the least, a retraining would be horrible and was something to avoid at all costs!
“…Understood. For now let’s tidy up your hair”
“Ye-yeah!”
In relief from the withdrawn threat of retraining, Luciana returned to her room with Melody.
As Melody combed her hair, Luciana asked her about something she has been wondering about.
“So why is Melody working for our house? Surely someone with your skills would have better opportunities besides here.”
Melody was the sole caretaker of the Luthorburg’s estate in the royal capital, flawlessly managing by herself a workload that normally required dozens of servants. Her skills were truly amazing, which is why Luciana believed Melody had greater possibilities elsewhere.
“Fufufu, you can leave everything to me, my lady!”
Luciana tilted her head in curiosity, and Melody, smiling, continued explaining.
“I wish to try everything involved in a maid’s job! If I worked elsewhere, the work would be shared, but here, all the work is mine alone! Doesn’t that sound wonderful?”
“You think that sounds… w-wonderful?”
“Of course! I can fulfill the duties and responsibilities that I love, you know! Nothing could be more wonderful! If I were to be a maid, I want to be in charge of all the work, an ”All-Works Maid’!
“I-is that right..?”
As Melody gushed about her dreams like a maiden in love, Luciana could only smile awkwardly.
After all, how were you supposed to respond to something like that?
Luciana could only quietly avert her gaze while Melody’s passions continued burning.
(I managed to be born again, but this time I will live as a real maid. Watch over me from heaven, mom! I will definitely become ‘the number one maid in the world’!)
No one knew of Melody’s unstoppable determination yet.
This was not the success story of a ruined young mistress but of the maid beside her.
