Author's note: This is my first fanfiction and first time ever writing a story. I would appreciate it if you mention some of the characters are bland or have no life, so to speak.

This fanfiction starts four months before the UA entrance exam.

I can only hope if you all enjoy this.

Benji woke up when he heard a loud banging noise coming from his door. Peaking through his blanket he was greeted with a angry woman.

"Oww!" he shouted in pain. He groaned as a hand karate chopped his head. The force behind this woman's blow was not to be scoffed at.

"Get ready or you'll be late for school!" He turned to face his lizard scaled mother. "We really need to get you an alarm that will wake you up."

"Yes mom."

Benji's could only comply. His mom woke him up like this most days like this, it was a hard habit for him to shake.

Checking out himself in the mirror, making sure he was looking perfect. Carefully checking his tall two hundred and five centimeter self for any signs of molting. His quirk was Lizard-Gator, a mutant quirk, so being part lizard gave him no specific molting pattern. He was born like this except his muscles,  his big green muscles was his pride. His mother always said he was a muscle head.

Then he made way to the living room. Heading towards the dinning table where my mother was in the kitchen. Entering the kitchen he hit his head against the shorter ceiling.

"Gah" He squeaked, rubbing his head.

Some old Japanese apartment buildings still standing with great structural strength had the capabilities of housing his height. His particular apartment has a kitchen whose height was one hundred and ninety centimeters. But his mother didn't know how tall he would grow.

'We really need a apartment me sized.'

"..." His mother was having trouble holding in a laugh. "Muscle head don't forget your protein shake on table."

"I wont" He kissed mother goodbye. He loved his mother dearly, he could only wish his father was here.

Walking into Tamayo Junior High he earned many looks from other students. The looks were not from discrimination or disgust but of envy and affection. Of course he still got looks of disgust from some but he learned over time to ignore it. Benji was tall and had one of the cutest faces in school making people want to pet him, but also earning some people envy who wanted that very same attention. The only ones who could beat his attention was ones that had quirks enhancing their charm and beauty.

People naturally parted way for him in the halls because of his big size and height. A year ago he even managed to break the chair he was sitting in and the school had to get a more sturdy one to support him.

'I wonder how they would've treated me had I not looked cute.'

At first the language barrier when Benji and his mom moved here four years ago hurt his studies, with learning a new culture and history. But he quickly adapted to the language after a year later.

He partially enjoyed history class because some units would focus on recent history, namely the history that mentioned mutant quirks. He enjoyed reading about those hero's and their exploits.

But the class he always looked forward to was PE. Especially because he was put in a special PE class full of mutant quirks like him.

It was more of a safe space for mutant quirks. Although he was cute he still received a fair share of discrimination because of the way he looked. His classmates also felt the pain of it so that's why they easily bonded.

They talked about their hopes and dreams, and everything in between.

Eventually Benji who has decided on his future path a few days ago wanted to share. He hated talking about his father to people but they would get the message of how important it was to him.

"My father died a while ago before we moved to japan" His classmates turned to look at him. "A hero wasn't there to protect him when a villain was rampaging"

"Gillow-san we're sorry"

"No no! its fine, I had trouble accepting the fact he was gone, that my family wouldn't be same anymore." He teared. "That's why a I've decided that I'm going to become a pro hero to protect other people who needed protecting just like my father."

It took a lot for him not to look away from them. Even then it harder to look at their expressions. Anything concerning his father was a touchy subject.

The avian looking teacher looked away then looked at him again. "A noble cause you have chosen, don't ever lose it."

His classmates all nodded at that, one even added.

"You're going to make a great hero one day!"

"Thank you everyone for being so supportive." Said a teary eyed Benji.

His day was already turning into a emotional rollercoaster. He needed some things to calm his mind.

Returning home he greeted his mother and quickly got his exercise clothes ready. As he was about to head out the door his mom stopped him.

"The UA entrance exam is in four months you need to work more on your cardio, just because your quirk is part gator doesn't mean you will have stamina of one!" She continued. "They are the top school in Japan, of course their practical exam will be hard!"

"Ill be fine mom please I got to go."

"You better be here for dinner or I'm going to kill you!"

"Ok ok I'm going now." He hastily replied.

Walking out the door and remembering not to knock down his mothers prized plants on the way out. It was best not to anger the beast that was his mother for now.

'She's right I have been putting down my cardio lately, it would really effect my performance on the practical exam.'

He decided he would do more taxing cardio workouts from there on. In fact, Benji felt he could remove this weakness with enough time but it would take more than a few months. For now it would be best to focus on lifting heavier weights.

After a tiring workout Benji decided he would have enough time to walk the scenic route home passing a beach park. He heard about it from some people in his class saying someone cleaned up a lot of the trash on the beach.

When he passed by the beach a significant portion of it was clean. He could even see horizon in one of the sections of trash on the beach.

Walking by he saw a green haired person and old person.

'So that's who's cleaning up the trash. It looked like that really old person was dead before he stared moving.'

It looked more like a gym workout with trash instead of just cleaning stuff up. Benji felt something was amiss with the yellow haired person but he didn't think much about it and continued on his way home not forgetting to admire the view of the horizon. His family used to go to the beach all the time.

Walking through the front door of the apartment he was assaulted with the best smell on earth, katsu curry. It was one of first things he ended up eating in Japan and he fell instantly in love. For his appetite his mother had learned to cook it and other Japanese foods.

"Benji your going to need to find a someone that can cook for you." Said a annoyed Martha as she finished setting the table.

"Mom but your food is already perfect why would I want someone else's." Benji tiled his head as he looked down on his mother.

"Stupid, I'm not always going to cook you food I'm growing old!"

"I'm not stupid you old hag!" Benji shouted. "Its not my fault your cooking is so good!"

"I swear the only ting you'll be eating in the future is protein shakes!"

"But they also taste good?"

"Come her you maggot!" Martha shouted while chasing Benji through the living room.

Martha ended up throwing all sorts of soft items at Benji all over the apartment until she was exhausted. The bickering happened almost every day.

Benji was just about to head to bed when his Martha opened his door.

"Mr. Yoriyoshi just called." Benji looked up to his mother. "Your really serious about this aren't you."

She sat down next to him on his bed than holding a graphic tee with a cover of an old band. The band on it really looked outdated by a century.

"You know the saying, this thing had just been collecting dust sitting there" She handed him the shirt. "Here I didn't know what to do with it after what happened."

'Was this fathers shirt?'

"That was your fathers favorite shirt and band. He wore it on every date we went on.  Granted he did look out of place in fancy restaurants, but that was his charm. But of course he couldn't have worn such a big shirt so I had it tailored to fit you."

Benji was overwhelmed, the only thing he could do was hug his mother and softly say. "Thank you."

Author's note: I have been wanting to write a MHA fanfiction for a while now, like arguably a month. This has been my first ever work of fiction, and oh my god it was very fun.

I'm still determining a upload schedule but one chapter a week seems very reasonable for my schedule.

Just so you know are haven't gotten in this chapter, Benji doesn't want to become the number one hero he simply want to be a rescue hero. A noble cause indeed right?

Anyways I would appreciate any point of criticism you have for this. I would like it to be my goal to be able to learn and improve my writing.
