MCAB – Chapter 204

Ren Nanying agreed with Jun Zishu’s decision. This was also the only option they could take to ensure they had food and shelter. However, before she could voice her agreement, she suddenly thought of a problem.

Ren Nanying: Do you guys have any weapons?

Lin Su: No.

Liu Manman: No.

Xu Qiu: No.

Jun Zishu: I have a fruit knife.

Xu Qiu: Ah! I have a fruit knife too!

Lin Su: Then, me too.

Liu Manman, the only resident without a fruit knife: …Do scissors count?

“Am I going to die?” Liu Manman wanted to cry.

“I’ll swap with you,” Jun Zishu said, exchanging her fruit knife with Liu Manman’s scissors without hesitation. Unlike Liu Manman, she had a cheat ability that allowed her to stab things into zombie brains more easily, so it didn’t matter whether she was using a fruit knife or a pair of scissors.

“My goddess!”

Liu Manman was moved, and she couldn’t help but have the urge to hug Jun Zishu and cry.

However, Ren Nanying frowned at this scene, feeling a little worried about this arrangement.

Noticing this, Jun Zishu gave Ren Nanying a look of assurance, her face brimming with confidence.

Afterward, everyone wielded their weapons and gestured with them in the air.

Xu Qiu: I want to sharpen my knife!

Lin Su: Wake up! That’s only a fruit knife! Not a sword!

Xu Qiu: Fine…

Liu Manman: How are we supposed to leave? The lower floors of the building are… Won’t we get surrounded?

Jun Zishu: Through the balcony, of course.

Xu Qiu: We’re going to climb down from the fourth floor?

Jun Zishu: What? Scared?

Xu Qiu: No, I feel a little excited.

Xu Qiu rubbed her hands together in anticipation when she heard Jun Zishu’s answer. There was a point in her life when she was addicted to Spider-Man. Now that she had the opportunity to experience what it felt like to be Spider-Man, she couldn’t help but feel excited.

Afterward, Jun Zishu and the others gathered on the balcony to observe the terrain outside.

“Once we go down, we’ll run along this wide road to the food court. However, we can’t just head straight into the food court. Instead, we’ll circle to the side and go in through the back kitchen,” Jun Zishu said as she pointed at the road beside the building.

Lin Su: I have a question!

Jun Zishu: Speak.

Lin Su: Where’s the back kitchen?

Jun Zishu: It’s on the side with the big garbage pile. There’s an external staircase there and a small door underneath that staircase. That door leads to the back kitchen.

Liu Manman: Oh, so that’s the back kitchen? I never noticed it. All I noticed was the rancid smell of garbage.

Jun Zishu: We’ll be running for that place.

Xu Qiu: What if the door’s locked?

Jun Zishu: We’ll think of another solution at that time.

This was a matter that concerned their lives, so they needed to discuss every step of their plan in detail. Although unexpected variables would always appear, it was much better than going in blind. They’d simply be committing suicide if they tried to escape without a proper plan.

Before they could head for the cafeteria’s rear kitchen, though, they needed to do something about the zombies wandering around the building first. If they simply climbed down without getting rid of these zombies, they’d be surrounded and killed in the blink of an eye. Hence, they needed someone to lure the zombies away.

However, luring the zombies was a dangerous job. Even one mistake could potentially lead to death.

“I’ll do it. I run fast, so I can lure some of the zombies away. I’ll think of a way to reach the cafeteria afterward,” Ren Nanying said. She was the most athletic out of everyone in this room, so she was the most suitable candidate for this risky job.

“I’ll go with you,” Jun Zishu said without hesitation.

Ren Nanying was surprised by Jun Zishu’s words. She could feel how much her little cousin cared for her.

Jun Zishu naturally had to stay close to her mission target. Not to mention, it’d be incredibly troublesome if she let Ren Nanying meet up with those two troublesome traitors.

Moreover, Jun Zishu had a strong hunch that Ren Nanying was her lover who had followed her across all her mission words. To validate this point, she needed to make sure that Ren Nanying remained safe.

“But they’ll panic if you’re not around,” Ren Nanying said as she pointed at Jun Zishu’s three roommates. She wasn’t trying to belittle the three girls, but it was a fact that they would lose confidence without Jun Zishu by their side. It was also best if they could keep as many people alive as possible.”

“Alright, then,” Jun Zishu said as she looked at her three cute roommates. If Ren Nanying ended up stranded at another location, she could simply head there to find her.

After a long discussion, Jun Zishu came up with three plans.

Plan A: Ren Nanying would lure the zombies away, while Jun Zishu would lead the others to the cafeteria’s back kitchen. Then, they would make further plans according to their circumstances.

Plan B: If the back kitchen’s door was locked, they would head for the Medical Building or Art Building while putting safety as their priority, and Ren Nanying would meet up with them there.

Plan C: If all else fails, they will run for their lives. If they couldn’t outrun the zombies, they would climb up a tree or something tall. If there was nothing to climb, and they couldn’t fight off the zombies…they would die.

“It’s going to be incredibly dangerous. You must consider carefully whether you want to come with us or not,” Jun Zishu said as she looked at her roommates. In reality, she didn’t have an obligation to bring them with her. She also couldn’t guarantee that she could keep all three of them alive.

“Of course I’m going! Starving to death is such a horrible way to die. Rather than stay here and starve to death, I’d rather take my chances with the zombies outside,” Liu Manman said with her fists held high. If she managed to survive

“What about you two?” Jun Zishu asked as she looked at Lin Su and Xu Qiu.

“I’ve always been following you,” Lin Su said as she pushed her glasses. Since the start of the zombie pandemic, she could already tell that Jun Zishu was her best shot at surviving this apocalypse. The same could also be said for Ren Nanying. Not to mention, Ren Nanying was already shouldering the bulk of the risk in their escape plan. She’d be a hopeless coward if she backed off in this situation.

“Me too,” Xu Qiu said. Since everyone she was familiar with was leaving, she naturally wouldn’t stay. Being alone in the apocalypse was a very scary thing, after all.

“Okay. We’ll start moving tomorrow morning.”

It was almost dusk now. They needed sufficient time to execute their plan, so it would be inconvenient to leave now. Moreover, unlike humans, the zombies did not rely on sight to determine and locate their targets.

After ending their discussions, everyone sat down and stopped speaking.

Meanwhile, Wu Zi remained silent throughout the entire process, only watching the five girls from the side.

“Are you really not going to leave?” Liu Manman asked Wu Zi out of consideration that they belonged to the same department.

“I’m not going. I don’t want to go out and die,” Wu Zi said, shaking her head and vehemently refusing Liu Manman’s offer. She couldn’t understand why these people insisted on going outside and sending themselves to death. Who was to say that they would starve to death if they stayed here? At worst, they could search the other rooms for food. Trying to go downstairs and head for another location was no different than barging through the doors of hell.

“I see.”

Liu Manman curled her mouth and quietly clicked her tongue. Although she wasn’t trying to force Wu Zi to join them on this risky journey, she couldn’t help but find Wu Zi’s attitude unpleasant. Not to mention, if they hadn’t rescued her, their food wouldn’t have run out so quickly.

Of course, Liu Manman only harbored such thoughts for a moment. After all, neither her nor her roommates’ conscience would’ve let them stand still and watch as someone died right outside their door. If they refused to save Wu Zi back then, they would be no different from the monsters downstairs.

In reality, the scariest thing about this zombie apocalypse wasn’t the threat posed by the monsters outside. Instead, it was the crumbling of human unity and the dulling of humanity.

The sky grew dark.

Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying shared the same bed as usual, while Liu Manman slept with Xu Qiu, and Wu Zi slept on Liu Manman’s bed.

“It’s going to be hard for you tomorrow,” Jun Zishu said as she propped up her head and looked at Ren Nanying.

“It’s going to be the same for everyone. What I’m worried about is that I won’t be able to find you,” Ren Nanying said, frowning. None of them had a phone signal right now, so they couldn’t communicate their statuses and whereabouts to each other. The university campus was also a massive place, so it’d be tough for them to find each other again if they got separated.

“Don’t worry. I will wait for you at the agreed-upon place,” Jun Zishu said.

Ren Nanying looked at Jun Zishu’s eyes, a strange feeling appearing in her heart. When she thought about how drastically their relationship had changed over the past few days, she couldn’t help but wonder if this was a situation of “a friend in need was a friend indeed.”

Their relationship before the apocalypse had clearly been one filled with hostilities, even if it was merely a one-sided hostility. Yet, after the apocalypse took place, they had grown incredibly close in only a matter of days. Moreover, they had grown to trust and rely on each other a lot.

Just like this moment, when they looked into each other’s eyes, a sense of stability and security filled their hearts.

“Okay. It’s a promise.”

Ren Nanying held Jun Zishu’s hand, and the two of them went to sleep.

Probably because this was the last night they could spend surrounded by comfort and security, their bodies instinctively sought to draw strength from others. As a result, the two had, at some point, switched to embracing each other as they slept under the cover of the big quilt.

When Ren Nanying embraced Jun Zishu’s waist, she could feel the slimness and softness of the girl’s waistline. However, despite being soft, Jun Zishu’s waist was also very tough, and Ren Nanying fell in love with the sensation she felt through her hands.

Although Ren Nanying felt that she was behaving like a little pervert, she simply couldn’t bring herself to separate from Jun Zishu. She felt that Jun Zishu was great in every way, and she felt that she was slowly losing her mind as she looked at the girl.

At six o’clock, the street lights outside the dormitory came on. Everyone washed up briefly using the mineral water they had saved up before and got out of bed one after another.

Jun Zishu organized her backpack, filling it with food and medicine. They didn’t have much to bring, so they would only need one backpack for the five of them.

“Can… Can you leave some for me?” Wu Zi asked in a weak and embarrassed voice. However, her eyes were filled with yearning as she looked at the backpack in Jun Zishu’s hands.

Liu Manman opened her mouth to try and say something, but she eventually chose to keep quiet.

“We will.”

Jun Zishu’s attitude was cold as she zipped her backpack.

Afterward, Jun Zishu combed her long hair in front of the mirror, and Ren Nanying found her eyes drawn toward this sight.

Ren Nanying sported a bob cut because she felt it got in her way during training. However, when she saw Jun Zishu tying her hair into a ponytail, she found it a pleasant sight as well.

Going by their plan, they would be climbing downstairs from the balcony.

However, not everyone was athletic like Ren Nanying, so they tied their sheets together to form a rope.

Four sheets naturally weren’t enough to let them climb down four floors, so they also took out their spare sheets.

Once the sheets were tied into one long piece of rope, they tied one end of the rope to the balcony railing and draped the other end to the bottom of the building.

Ren Nanying: Let’s spray something to cover our body odor. What do you guys have?

Lin Su: Six God’s Power Mint. (TLN: very cheap cologne)

Xu Qiu: Rose-scented sunscreen spray? It smells very pungent, so I’ve never really used it.

Liu Manman: Six God’s…refill bottle. I can’t spray with it. I can only sprinkle it.

Ren Nanying: Everything’s fine. What about you?

Lin Su: The only things she uses are Chanel Lancome and the sort. Let’s just stick with Six God. My heart can’t bear wasting such expensive perfume.

Jun Zishu: [frank smile]

Thus, everyone sprayed Lin Su’s Six God’s Power Mint, covering themselves in a minty smell.

“I’ll pass since I need to attract the zombies. I’ll be heading down first. You guys make sure to act quickly.”

“Okay.”

“Be safe.”

Jun Zishu hugged Ren Nanying, to which Ren Nanying responded with a tight hug of her own. Then, she looked at Jun Zishu and said, “Remember to wait for me.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you,” Jun Zishu answered with a smile.

When Liu Manman saw this scene, she couldn’t help but feel as if she was watching two lovers separating rather than two cousins.

Ren Nanying’s actions were light and swift, and she climbed down four floors using the makeshift rope in no time. When she reached the ground, several zombies spotted her and growled in excitement.

“Come here,” Ren Nanying said, smiling. Then, she whistled arrogantly.

When the zombies smelled the scent of a living human, they promptly charged at Ren Nanying in excitement.
