MCAB – Chapter 213

There was plenty of food in the kitchen, so food was no longer a problem for the time being. Unfortunately, another serious problem had cropped up for Jun Zishu and the others.

After waking up in the morning, Xu Qiu started feeling uncomfortable, and she kept holding her stomach.

Lin Su was the first to notice Xu Qiu’s situation, and she hurriedly asked, “Do you have a stomach ache? Did you eat something bad? If it hurts, you should go to the toilet.”

“No, I don’t need to use the toilet. My stomach just hurts a little.”

“Is it because you slept without a blanket last night?” Jun Zishu asked. After observing Xu Qiu for a bit and seeing that the latter didn’t seem to be in too much pain, Jun Zishu relaxed a little.

“Probably,” Xu Qiu answered weakly, her expression not looking too well. “Actually, there’s another possibility.”

After saying so, Xu Qiu kept one hand on her stomach while holding Lin Su’s hand with her other hand.

“What is it?”

“I might be having my period soon. It should be starting these next few days. I will also always have stomach aches whenever my period is about to arrive,” Xu Qiu said, her words startling everyone.

Since they were girls, their menstrual cycles were a problem they inevitably had to face. They couldn’t just ignore it and let their blood flow freely without caring, either. Not only would that make it inconvenient for them to move around, but they also didn’t have many spare clothes they could change into.

Meanwhile, out of the eight people present, six of them were girls. So, the problem they faced was significant.

“I’ve already had mine this month, so I’m safe for the time being,” Lin Su said. Then, she suddenly recalled something and turned to Jun Zishu, saying, “But speaking of period pains…Zishu…”

Liu Manman and Xu Qiu also turned to look at Jun Zishu worriedly upon hearing Lin Su’s words.

“What? Does Zishu have severe period pains?” Ren Nanying hurriedly asked.

“That’s right. She has it the worst in our dorm. There was even one time when she nearly fainted. Whenever her period arrives, she would usually stay in bed and rarely move on the first day,” Liu Manman answered.

While the girls had their discussion, the two boys quietly listened nearby. Initially, they had felt rather embarrassed to listen to such a conversation. Now, though, only sympathy filled them.

“When will yours arrive?” Ren Nanying worriedly asked as she looked at Jun Zishu.

“At the end of the month. Don’t worry; it’s still not time yet,” Jun Zishu said as she patted Ren Nanying on the shoulder. Then, she looked at the others and continued, “Our problem now is how we are going to acquire pads.”

Sanitary pads were essential for girls during their period. It might have been fine if the kitchen had cotton cloths or something similar to use as temporary measures. However, there was no such thing in the kitchen. There were only tablecloths here. There was no way they could use those as replacements. It’d be incredibly easy for them to catch an infection.

Jun Zishu spoke in a definitive tone, and nobody voiced any objections. After all, this was no longer a decision that required discussion. Rather than discuss an obvious decision, they should talk about how and where they should acquire the sanitary pads from.

“We have two options: Auspicious Supermarket or Jia Jia Supermarket.”

It was unrealistic to return to their dormitory to get their pads. The rope they used to climb down from their room had already been withdrawn after they left. The risk of returning to the dormitory was too high. If they chose to return to the dormitory, they would have to face the possibility that nobody would pull them upstairs. There were security windows on the first and second floors, so they couldn’t sneak into the rooms on these two floors, either.

They could also rule out acquiring pads from the food court. Although some of the beverage shops here sold sanitary pads, the stall area was crowded with zombies. They’d have a much better chance of getting pads outside than from those beverage stalls.

“Let’s go to Jia Jia. Jia Jia Supermarket is bigger, and it is also closer to us,” Ren Nanying said, expressing her thoughts.

“Okay. We’ll go to Jia Jia Supermarket, then. We’ll leave through the back door, cross the Medical Building and Arts Building, and enter the supermarket through the toilet’s windows. The air vents will work as well.”

“Why not take the main entrance?”

“Do you think there won’t be people inside the supermarket?”

“Oh, right.”

“We need to go in with a foolproof plan. If there are people inside the supermarket, the main entrance should be tightly locked. Even if it isn’t locked, it is still too risky. We cannot afford a frontal confrontation with the zombies. Our priority is to run. So long as we get bitten even once, we are as good as dead,” Jun Zishu said with a severe expression, her behavior causing everyone to tense up as well. Then, she continued, “We can’t have too many people going. I’ll go. Who else is coming with me?”

“I’ll go with you,” Liu Manman said, raising her hand.

“I’ll go, too. There’s strength in numbers,” Lin Su said with her hand raised.

“I can, too,” Liu Yingtong said.

“The two of us are boys, so we should be stronger. We can go with you,” Jiang Mubai said while forcibly raising Chen Beimo’s hand.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Jun Zishu asked as she turned toward Ren Nanying.

“Aren’t we a pair? I thought it was obvious I would go wherever you go. How could I possibly let you risk yourself alone?” Ren Nanying said as she wrapped an arm around Jun Zishu’s shoulders, her actions dashing and handsome.

“No need for so many people to go. If everyone goes, wouldn’t we be leaving Qiu’er by herself here?” Jun Zishu said, chuckling when she saw how proactive everyone was. It seemed that everyone had already developed a sense of group responsibility. “My cousin and I will be fine by ourselves. The rest of you stay behind and take care of Qiu’er. You two boys should also stay here in case other people come and threaten our group.”

“Will it be fine with only the two of you?” Jiang Mubai asked worriedly. It was incredibly dangerous outside, so it seemed rash to let only Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying go out by themselves.

“We’re going out to procure items, so it isn’t necessarily a good thing to have more people. We’ll just be creating a bigger target for the zombies if we move in a bigger group. Nanying and I are both very strong in individual combat, so we can get ourselves out of tight situations. But if more people come with us, we might have to turn around to save them.”

It was a very vexing truth.

“When will you head out?”

“Now,” Jun Zishu stated. Then, she squeezed Ren Nanying’s fingers and asked, “Are you ready?”

“I’m ready whenever you are.”

Afterward, Jun Zishu emptied her backpack and carried it on her back. Before leaving, she said, “If we enter the supermarket successfully and secure what we need, we’ll try to bring some food and other essentials back.”

“You two have to be careful. Your safety takes priority over the pads. Just come back safely even if you don’t manage to get the pads,” Lin Su said.

“Okay. Be good and wait here for us,” Jun Zishu said to her friends. Then, she looked at the two boys and continued, “You two be sure to protect them. If we can reach the food court, so can others.”

“We’ll complete the mission for sure!” Chen Beimo said as he made a haphazard solute, which earned him a knock on the head from Jiang Mubai.

“Stay safe,” Jiang Mubai said.

Lin Su: If you don’t come back sooner, I will go find you with my Band 8 listening exercises.

Xu Qiu: How ruthless.

Jun Zishu: What a savage. We’ll be sure to come back.

Liu Yingtong: Is this how you motivate each other in your dorm?

Liu Manman: Studying is our motivation!

Jun Zishu’s mouth twitched a little at this sight, and she couldn’t help but have the urge to leave immediately.

“We’ll try to return within the day. If we can’t make it today, we’ll try to come back tomorrow.”

“Mhm.”

“We’ll leave through the kitchen window. We’ll run straight to Jia Jia Supermarket. Then, as we discussed before, if we come across any trouble, we’ll climb up a tree or a building to take shelter,” Jun Zishu said to Ren Nanying.

“I climbed to the Art Building’s roof using the water pipe. We can shake off the zombies that way. They’ll scatter once they don’t see you for a while,” Ren Nanying said, recounting her experience.

“Okay.”

Afterward, Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying worked their arms and legs to warm up their bodies. Then, once they were done warming up, they sprayed themselves with a thick coating of Six God Power Mint.

Destination: Jia Jia Supermarket!

Target: Sanitary Pads!

After opening the kitchen window and making sure that the coast was clear, Jun Zishu climbed through the window and gently landed on the ground. Meanwhile, Ren Nanying followed after her closely.

Once the two were out of the kitchen, Liu Manman closed the window and watched as the two vanished into the distance.

There wasn’t much cover outside. While Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying had covered their scent with cologne, they had nothing to hide their figures with. Meanwhile, although the zombies relied mainly on their noses to determine whether a person was dead or alive, some of them still had functional eyes and ears.

When the first zombie noticed them and let out an excited roar, Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying promptly began sprinting forward with all their might.

At the same time, zombies began shuffling toward them rapidly from all directions, gradually forming an encirclement.

“I’ll go this way. You go that way. We’ll group up once we lose them,” Jun Zishu said, making an immediate decision.

Although Ren Nanying felt reluctant to separate from Jun Zishu once more, she quickly gritted her teeth and ran in the direction Jun Zishu pointed to.

There was some distance between the Medical Building and the Art Building, and situated between them were two long and wide staircases. The staircase to the left led to the Medical Building, while the right led to the Art Building.

Jun Zishu ran toward the Medical Building, while Ren Nanying ran to the Art Building.

Meanwhile, because they had separated, the zombies chasing after them also split into two groups, significantly reducing the pressure they faced.

After reaching the Art Building, Ren Nanying mimicked her previous escape method and swiftly climbed up the water pipe by the building, reaching the rooftop in no time at all.

On the other side, Jun Zishu came across a small plaza with a large statue after climbing up the staircase, and the statue was modeled after Nightingale.

Compared to the Art Building, the Medical Building was massive. It housed both the Medical Department’s and Nursing Department’s students, so the number of zombies here was significantly greater. After seeing how tall the Medical Building was and how many zombies she had to get through to reach the building, Jun Zishu promptly decided against going for the building and chose to climb the plaza statue instead.

After Jun Zishu climbed onto the statue’s platform, she muttered a brief apology to the beautiful and great woman before climbing up her body and reaching the top of her head.

When the zombies eventually reached the plaza, they quickly surrounded the statue and stretched out their hands to try and reach Jun Zishu, creating a horrific sight. If one added the right BGM, it would create the perfect scene for a horror movie.

Jun Zishu stood at the top of the statue and exchanged glances with Ren Nanying, who stood atop the Art Building. Although she couldn’t see Ren Nanying’s face clearly, she could see that someone was standing atop the Art Building’s roof.

Meanwhile, Ren Nanying’s heart constricted as she looked over to the Medical Building’s side.

Although Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying safely separated themselves from the zombies, they were in entirely different situations. When the zombies lost sight of their target, they would scatter after a while. However, if their target remained before their eyes, they would persistently try to reach their target.

[What should we do now, Host?]

Jun Zishu licked her lips as she observed the zombies surrounding the statue’s base.

We fight, of course.
