Love arrived too quickly for Ren Nanying. After the discussion with everyone ended, Ren Nanying promptly dragged Jun Zishu out into the corridor. Although the onlookers inside the kitchen tried to eavesdrop, they quickly grew obedient after Jun Zishu glanced at them.

“Surprised?”

Jun Zishu didn’t really like talking in the corridor since the smell here was godawful.

The zombie corpses had long since started decaying. However, no flies or any parasites had come to feast on their corpses for some reason. Even so, the fishy smell they gave off was still pungent beyond belief.

“It was very unexpected. I… I didn’t think that things would turn out like this. It feels so surreal that I can’t help but think that I’m in a dream.”

“Silly.”

Jun Zishu chuckled. This person before her might not know it, but they had already been in a relationship together many times in the past.

Jun Zishu felt that it wasn’t a coincidence that this person had constantly chased after her. Although she didn’t know why this person would lose her memories whenever they entered a new world, she guessed that this must be a restriction for those who traveled worlds without the Department of Transmigration’s intervention.

When Ren Nanying saw the way Jun Zishu laughed, her heartbeat quickened a little.

“Don’t you believe me?” Jun Zishu asked.

“I do, I do believe you,” Ren Nanying hurriedly said while nodding. She could tell that the way Jun Zishu looked at her was different from how the girl normally looked at others. She was just a little too overwhelmed by this unexpected development, so she couldn’t help but wonder if she was in a dream.

“Come here.”

Jun Zishu hooked her finger at Ren Nanying, and Ren Nanying subconsciously moved closer to Jun Zishu. Then, a soft kiss landed on Ren Nanying’s lips, the touch so gentle and brief that Ren Nanying felt as if she had just touched a cloud.

“This is a seal of ownership,” Jun Zishu said with a smile.

Ren Nanying’s mind momentarily fell into a daze as joy and excitement overwhelmed her body. Then, carefully, she asked, “Can we do it again?”

Jun Zishu angled her chin in response, signaling for Ren Nanying to do it herself.

Ren Nanying carefully placed her lips onto Jun Zishu’s, her actions so gentle that it looked like she was handling a treasure of priceless value.

Ren Nanying’s kiss was full of warmth. While sucking on Jun Zishu’s lips, she used the tip of the tongue to awkwardly draw on Jun Zishu’s teeth.

Eventually growing impatient, Jun Zishu wrapped her arms around Ren Nanying’s neck and promptly escalated their kiss. In no time at all, the surrounding temperature began to rise.

Little Fairy danced in joy as she watched this scene. Then, she set off some fireworks in celebration.

Finally, the hard times were over for Lord, and the good times were beginning. The Lord of this world might find that happiness had come very suddenly, but unbeknownst to her was that she had forgotten just how much effort she had put in to acquire this love.

Lord had pursued her love from one world to another. Even when there were times when she failed to yield any fruits from her effort, she still chose to silently guard her love from the side.

Little Fairy felt that this must be what it meant to love someone. If a person truly loved someone, even when they couldn’t become their beloved’s lover, they would still be wholeheartedly good to their beloved.

Fortunately, all of Lord’s effort and patience paid off. Despite how cold and unapproachable of a person her beloved was, she still managed to melt her beloved’s heart.

In reality, Jun Zishu was a very insecure person. She might let her guard down from time to time, but she definitely wouldn’t loosen her guard completely. The only way to break through her defenses was to continuously attack her defenses over a long period. Meanwhile, Lord had done exactly that, and she had finally succeeded in tearing down Jun Zishu’s defenses permanently.

The slurping sound of saliva being exchanged caused the two people in the corridor to blush to their ears. The moment Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying separated, they could even hear their lips separating.

Ren Nanying wanted to continue their kiss, but Jun Zishu pushed her away before she could go in for a second round.

“My body is dirty right now, so I don’t want to go any further than this. We’ll save the rest for after the apocalypse is over.”

Jun Zishu dropped a big hint in her words, and Ren Nanying couldn’t help but be overjoyed when she understood this hint.

What Jun Zishu basically meant was that she was serious about their relationship and that she wasn’t just letting her morales go loose because it was the apocalypse. Once the apocalypse was over, they would continue their relationship and become even more intimate with each other than before.

When Ren Nanying walked into the back kitchen with a face full of delight, her behavior startled everyone inside for a moment.

“I strongly feel that we shouldn’t be dating during the apocalypse. It’ll affect our unity and the motivation of single dogs,” Liu Manman said righteously. However, despite her words, she wore a bright smile when she spoke.

“I strongly agree with your point of view,” Chen Beimo said, nodding. He felt that the two lovebirds had gone too far. Were they not satisfied with the suffering the apocalypse brought? Must they go a step further to provoke everyone else around them? They had gone too far! How dare they abandon the alliance of single dogs!

“Form your own pairings, then. It’s not like I’m stopping you from doing so,” Jun Zishu said, shrugging. Everyone had the freedom to love.

“The question is, who should we pair up with?” Chen Beimo asked as he swept his gaze across the other girls in the kitchen. When he met with Liu Yingtong’s indifferent gaze, he couldn’t help but shudder. Despite having spent some time with the other party already, he still couldn’t help but tremble whenever he looked at this future forensic scientist.

“That’s your problem.”

Perhaps there truly was retribution for entering a relationship during the apocalypse. Meanwhile, an example of this retribution would be a power outage.

Lin Su was the first person to discover the arrival of this retribution. When she opened the freezer, she knitted her eyebrows as she said, “The power is out.”

“What?”

Xu Qiu tried the light switches, verifying that the power was indeed out.

“The power station might have finally fallen. What should we do?”

Everyone panicked a little before unanimously looking at Jun Zishu.

“We still have water.”

When Jun Zishu opened the faucet and saw that water continued flowing out of it in a steady stream for some time, she let out a sigh of relief.

“No electricity means the refrigerator will stop running. It also means that some ingredients will go bad if we don’t finish them. Also, we won’t be able to cook rice with the rice cooker. We can’t use the microwave anymore, either,” Lin Su said with a frown.

“Shouldn’t the food court have a generator?” Liu Manman asked.

“The generator is in the engine room. We’ll have to go out to reach it,” Liu Yingtong said, shaking her head.

“We have no way to go outside right now. The backdoor is blocked, and the dining area is also crowded with zombies. I’m sure none of you will want to face that scene again,” Jun Zishu said as she recalled the zombie horde she faced when she went out to get the quilts with Ren Nanying. The zombies in the dining area simply weren’t a force they could handle with so few people.

“In other words, we have no choice but to accept the fact that we don’t have power,” Ren Nanying concluded, and everyone looked at each other gloomily.

“It’s fine. Losing power isn’t a huge problem. We should still have enough gas to use, right?” Jun Zishu asked as she looked at Lin Su.

Hearing Jun Zishu’s words, the two boys promptly ran to where the spare gas tanks were stored. Then, after lifting the gas tanks and feeling their weight, they gave Jun Zishu a nod.

“That’s good. We can still cook, then. We should finish the perishable ingredients first. We can also cook rice using the pressure cooker,” Jun Zishu said.

Everyone nodded. This was all they could do for the time being.

Afterward, Lin Su pulled out her phone and shook it in the air. Then, after looking at the screen, she said, “There’s still no signal.”

It had already been quite some days since they had lost contact with the outside world.

“We don’t even know what the situation outside is like right now. I wonder if anyone has been rescued already?” Xu Qiu muttered, sighing as she stared at her phone. After losing phone signal for so many days, she couldn’t help but grow worried about her parents.

Xu Qiu wasn’t the only one with such thoughts. Everyone was similarly worried about their respective families.

“How many days does this make?”

“Seven,” Jun Zishu said after looking at the date displayed on her phone.

“Only seven days? It feels like seven years have passed already,” Liu Manman muttered in despair.

Everyone else shared similar sentiments as Liu Manman.

When they were still living their normal and peaceful lives, a week could go by in the blink of an eye. In the apocalypse, however, seven days felt like seven years. Moreover, this was under a situation where they still had ample food. For others who were lacking food, these seven days might feel much longer than just seven years.

“It’s already the seventh day. The government should’ve made a move by now. Like we guessed previously, rescue operations should begin from key locations. Then, the rest of the country.”

“What if…there is no rescue operation?” Liu Yingtong asked, her dark eyes looking calm. She wasn’t trying to stir up trouble, though. She was simply being realistic.

“There will. Like Zishu said before, if even ordinary people like us can kill zombies and survive safely until now, how can the government and military not do the same? A tank can easily crush a bunch of zombies,” Ren Nanying said in a relaxed tone. She refused to believe that the soldiers protecting the country would fall so easily.

“This isn’t a matter of blind faith and thirst for hope. It’s speculation made based on what already exists. The country’s strength is definitely above our perception,” Jun Zishu said. Then, when she noticed Liu Yingtong staring at her, she asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I keep feeling that you don’t belong to the Dance Department.”

Do you want me to dance the rumba live for you?”

“I’ll pass.”

The feeling Liu Yingtong got from Jun Zishu didn’t belong to that of a girl majoring in dance. The way Jun Zishu thought was even more logical than a student studying science.

Regardless, since they could still solve their food requirement, Lin Su quickly began washing rice and putting it into the pressure cooker. Meanwhile, Liu Yingtong was responsible for cutting vegetables like usual, and she cut them up into nice and even sizes.

For now, nobody had a better solution except for waiting.

When night arrived, darkness enveloped the food court due to the lack of power.

Everyone sat in their respective positions in silence. Unlike the others, though, Jun Zishu and Ren Nanying were in a much more comfortable situation, with Jun Zishu nestling snugly in Ren Nanying’s arms. The two were even holding hands and playing with each other’s fingers.

Lin Su: I have no words to say about these two.

Xu Qiu: Can you two stop hurting my dog eyes so blatantly?!

Liu Manman: I’m still a child! Why must I go through such suffering!

Jiang Mubai silently lowered his head while Chen Beimo gave him a consoling pat on the shoulder.

From start to end, Liu Yingtong remained silent with her head lowered, and nobody but herself knew what she was thinking.

“What are you doing, Tongtong?” Liu Manman curiously asked.

“I’m thinking about how I should ask for a few corpses to dissect and research once the apocalypse is over.”

“Maybe this is how gods behave.”

“Amazing.”

Jun Zishu gave Liu Yingtong a look of admiration when she heard the quiet girl’s answer. Then, she continued nestling in Ren Nanying’s arms.

Once it was time for bed, everyone settled into each other’s embrace and fell asleep.

Unfortunately, possibly because it was retribution for showing off her love, but Jun Zishu fell ill a few days later.
