In the end, the two ladies decided to stay. Not because of anything else but because of the new boss’ pleasant appearance which made it difficult to refuse.

When the two guests finally registered, Xie Fei learned that the one who spoke was called Yang Duoduo, 22 years old, while the other was Xu Lingyi, 27 years old. Both of whom were from Nanshan City. Based on how they addressed each other, Xie Fei determined that they must be cousins. The younger sister was lively while the older sister wasn’t very talkative, not even taking off their sunglasses throughout the whole exchange.

“How did these two sisters find us here?” Xie Fei was really curious. Dahuang Inn was located deep inside Xining village and it had no promotion whatsoever. At the beginning, even Xie Fei only discovered it after stumbling about and travelling all over the village.

“We wanted to find a quiet and peaceful place to live in. We also saw that there’s a mountain nearby and that it looked relatively deserted---” Yang Duoduo quickly realized that she may have said something inappropriate and explained awkwardly. “I didn’t mean to imply anything else….”

“If you’re looking for a quiet area then you came to the right place.” Xie Fei smiled at her, relieving the awkward air. Then, he turned to the late Xiang Fei and asked, “Sister Xiang, has the room been cleaned?”

Actually, he was really worried that Xiang Fei had forgotten to clean the room, or even clean just a part of it. He looked at her hoping to get a hint on the status of the room. Nevertheless, Xiang Fei smiled kindly at him and said, “The garden room has been arranged.”

The so-called garden room referred to the three rows of rooms found in the inn’s garden, which was also the most concentrated area full of guest rooms. Xie Fei didn’t expect for Xiang Fei to be so efficient. Seeing the smile on her face that was full of confidence, he then said, “Then let them stay in room 101. I’ll trouble sister Xiang to bring the guests over.”

Xiang Fei effortlessly lifted their heavy luggage and raised her lips after seeing Yang Duoduo’s surprised eyes. “Honored guests, please.”

When the three of them left, Ah Fu quietly came up and stared at the corners of Xie Fei’s mouth, noticing the blue and black patterns. Ashamed, he timidly said, “Boss, that...my disguise can’t last long since I left the village. Otherwise, I would have rushed over earlier…….”

“Isn’t that good for me?” Xie Fei pulled down the original price list on the table and crumpled it up before throwing it into the trash can with the utmost precision. “Besides you still have your boss ah...where is he?”

“Inside his room?” Ah Fu wasn’t sure. “He came back a short while ago and looked angry so I didn’t talk to him. His mood swings have always been like that, switching from sunny to cloudy.  Boss shouldn’t take it too close to heart.”

Xie Fei smiled, a dimple appearing. “I don’t mind.”

At this point, Ah Fu really felt that Xie Fei had a good temper and was easy to talk to. Gaining courage, he asked, “But why did you suddenly lower the rates, boss? If they wanted to stay for three days, couldn’t we have earned more than a thousand?”

“Because they won’t stay here if it was at the original price ah.” Xie Fei fished out the excess change from his pocket and placed it one by one on the reception desk. “Brother Ah Fu, if we don't broaden our sources of income, we’d end up having nothing to eat. During this month, I felt that we didn’t have many guests, right?”

He didn’t need to ask how many guests came to the reception area for the day. After all, ever since he checked in, this was the only time he saw guests besides himself.

However, Ah Fu replied in an artistic way: “In a year, we receive 20 guests.”

“......so little?”

“Good or bad, it’s still double digits.”

“......”

Fuck your double digits.

Even though Xie Fei mentally prepared himself for this, he was still shocked by such a bleak number.

He heaved an exaggerated sigh and walked past Ah Fu, directly entering the front courtyard to move some things. While walking, he suddenly turned to Ah Fu and asked, “I remember Brother Ah Fu said that you used to be in charge of the fairy grass and spiritual plants in the Dongfu. That, can you plant?"

Ah Fu nodded. “I usually take care of the flowers and plants in the inn.”

“I also bought some seeds when I came back.” Xie Fei pointed to the small three wheeler and in a relaxed tone said, “Then I wish that Brother Ah Fu would have the time to grow them in the backyard.”

“I will go weed out the whole garden tomorrow and prepare the land!” Ah Fu replied energetically.

The two people went back to the front yard and continued to work, busying themselves until the sun went down. Finally, they sorted out the goods in the car.

Xie Fei could finally take a breather and rest. As soon as he arrived back in the lobby, he caught sight of Yin Su with the paper bag containing the mobile phone, dangling from its feet. Xie Fei pretended to be confused while Yin Su immediately flew towards him, landing gently on his claws.

Xie Fei didn’t hold back his laughter. He smiled and said, “Thank you for going back and calling for help.”

He leaned over and touched Yin Su’s head. He reached into the paper bag and took out the phone. He unpacked it, inserted the sim card, and turned it on. Then, he connected it to the inn’s WiFi, downloaded an app, registered an account, and quickly logged in to search the net.

There were a lot of things Xie Fei was curious about but the first thing he did was search Yu Li’s name. As he pressed enter, more than 50 million results popped up. Xie Fei tapped on the character profile on the first column---

Yu Li, 22 years old, Huaxia actor.

In 2016, he officially made his debut by taking the leading role in the urban idol drama “The Prince of Evil Spirits. In March 2017, he starred in the campus idol drama “The Ice Mountain’s Tyrant, Don’t Run1,” for which he was nominated for Mango Television’s Best Newcomer Award. In November 2017, he then played the role of a swordsman named Duanmu Ao Tian in the romantic martial arts drama called “Demon King, Seeking Love.” The drama brought about a number of records such as having the highest ratings in the country and the highest replay rate in the same year….

Although there was still more to the character profile, Xie Fei nevertheless decided that all things led to this thought. Really, it was unexpected. He couldn’t believe that Yu Li had such a great spirit for sacrifice…….

Xie Fei was afraid that the more he looked down at the page, his image of Yu Li would be completely reduced to “Harmonious star.” Instead, he decided on entering another key word--Runjiang group.

In the novel, the original owner’s father was Xie Tianrun while his mother was Yuan Yajiang. The two established their own enterprise which exactly was the Runjiang group. It mainly dealt with real estate while investing heavily on other sidelines.

Compared to the lively and exciting search results concerning Yu Li, the news related to the Runjiang group was much more monotonous. They were basically all about interviews with other enterprises or project marketing of some companies. In the end, there wasn’t any information about the original owner or the protagonist.

Xie Fei kept scrolling and was shocked to find an old news article about the continuous decline of Runjiang group’s stocks. Reading through it, his phone suddenly vibrated.

“----Snake, a [lower] class of reptile lacking limbs. It has no ear holes, tympanic membranes, tympanic cavities, and eustachian tubes. The reptile has no apparent neck and its trunk and tail are separated by a transverse fissure of the anal vent.”

“----Snakes have low IQ and bear no physiological mechanism related to emotion. They do not have awareness regarding the existence of companions or peers. They have no group consciousness. Even during the estrus period, they do not experience pleasure. Except for a few families and genera, most snakes rely on instinct driven by survival behavior.”

“......”

What is this? Attacking the snake?

“Seems like it’s not a snake demon ah……”

Xie Fei thought about it and already knew who the sender of these texts was. But, how did Yu Li know that he already activated his cellphone? He glanced sideways at Yin Su who had just returned from the outside and feigned innocence.

“If I call you a traitor, do you dare not answer?”

Yin Su turned his head to the side and refused to make eye contact.

Then, another text came in.

“Bring some fruit over.”

“......”

Not a snake demon but probably a fake demon?

Xie Fei went to the fridge and saw that they only had a few oranges and a bag of tomatoes left. Xie Fei cleaned the fruits and cut them, placing them on the tray. After that, it was only then did he realize he didn’t know which room Yu Li was in. Did he stay next door?

“Knock knock----”

“Who is it?”

Xie Fei said his name and the door opened . Xie Fei stood in shock, surprised to see a young man in his twenties, torso bare with only a pair of pajamas on and a towel hanging around his neck. Guessing from the black hair dripping with water, the youth had just taken a bath.

The young man had delicate and beautiful features except for the fact that the man had no right eyebrow. Instead he had a deep scar, obliquely carved into it.

However, Xie Fei did not know this person.

“Excuse me, sorry for the disturbance.”

Xie Fei subconsciously wanted to leave but the man suddenly called out “Boss.”

Slowly, he turned his head and found a trace of familiarity in the youth’s pleasing yet flattering expression. “.....Brother Ah Fu?”

“It’s me!”

“......”

Two pairs of eyes looked at each other face to face, obviously confused.

No way……

Lip ring, ear piercings, eyeliner, and a head looking as dark as a funeral!

“You dyed your hair black? Changed your style?”

“No, I used a one-time-use hair coloring spray.”

“What about the eyebrows?”

“I did something wrong before. The owner, I mean the original owner….” Ah Fu clutched the ends of his towel and twisted them. “He shaved my right eyebrow. I usually hide it using my bangs and some make-up.”

Xie Fei was deeply confused. “It’s been many years, shouldn’t it grow out?”

“He used his demon powers so it could no longer grow any more,” Ah Fu said sadly.

“......” Laser hair removal?

Xie Fei patted Ah Fu’s arm in sympathy. Everything went without saying.

“What can I do for you boss?”

“Oh.” Xie Fei suddenly remembered the reason for coming here. “I wanted to ask if you know where Yu Li lives?”

“Ah, he lives next door to you. Only the two of you are in the backyard.”

Sure enough.

A few minutes later, Xie Fei came to the backyard where a singular two-story building stood. Under the eaves, several red paper lanterns swayed with the wind, giving the impression of a joyous celebration.

He climbed up the stairs and found that Yu Li’s door was open and that said person was currently lying in bed, reading. Xie fei knocked gently on the door. “Mr. Yu, can I come in?”

Yu Li set aside the book, lifted his eyes, and looked at him. “Change your shoes.”

Xie Fei noticed a pair of big red cotton and linen slippers with a peony flower embroidered on the front. He paused and quietly changed into them.

“So little?” Yu Li got out of bed and took the plate in Xie Fei’s hands. “Do you want me to starve to death?” He said gloomily.

“It’s just some fruit before dinner.” Xie Fei didn’t think there was any problem with it. “It can’t be that you don’t plan on eating later?”

“I tend to gain weight when I eat at night.” Yu Li then asked in a low voice: “Do you want to ruin my acting career? Let me get laughed at by thousands of people?”

Xie Fei: “...”

Hearing this it seemed that Yu Li was picking a fight.

“Are you still angry?” Xie fei smiled and opened his mouth, coaxing him. “But I think that all snake demons look very good ah.”

Yu Li heard the meaning underlying his words, his complexion clearing up slightly. “That’s superficial. Our demon clan doesn’t pay attention to color or looks, only the bloodline. That kind of low grade reptile is---”

Xie Fei nodded his head. “I see. I didn’t understand it before. Then for the demon clan, which one has the most powerful bloodline?”

Yu Li gazed straight into his eyes and with a voice laced with awe and solemnity said: “The ancient god beast.”

Xie Fei was no stranger to these four words, but maybe it was due to the atmosphere of the room or Yu Li’s steady gaze that he felt a buzz in his brain. Cold air seeped through his skin, shooting straight up his spine while his scalp felt slightly numb.

He opened his mouth but no words came out.

Both of them didn’t speak for a while, letting the quiet atmosphere flow through them.

After a few moments, Yu Li retracted his line of sight and looked at the fruit on the table. He threw out a “wait,” then turned around and left for the bathroom.

Xie Fei thought he only left to wash his hands. While waiting, he looked around at the furnishings inside the room. He found that the west wall was actually converted into one huge bookcase, its shelves filled with books.

Yu Li actually likes reading?

Xie Fei couldn’t help but glance at the book Yu Li was reading earlier, lying on the side of the bed. As soon as he saw the words “Mountain and Sea Classics” written on the cover of the book, Yu Li returned.

“Come here.”

Xie Fei was still familiar with the man’s commanding tone. He suddenly felt that he should try and change this “Whatever I say, you follow” dynamic. If he wanted to get along with the man for a long while, he shouldn’t always be passive.

So, he remained in his spot, standing still. He showed a business-like smile and said: “What’s wrong?”

Yu Li glanced coldly at him and raised his hand, throwing a tube at him.

Xie Fei eyed the falling object and quickly caught it, only to discover that it was a tube of medicine aimed at reducing inflammation and stasis.

Oh right, he got into a fight today. Even though he only faced a crowd of enemies, it was inevitable that he’d remain unscathed. He thought back to the punches he received. But with these minor injuries, even he wouldn’t take them seriously…..

Xie Fei was stunned.” You asked me to come up here so I could apply some medicine?”

Originally, Yu Li didn’t want to acknowledge the man but he couldn’t help but want to refute him. These two feelings were so intertwined, he ended up showing his anger, unable to hold it back. “So much nonsense, are you going to apply it or not?”

“Thank you.” Xie Fei’s eyes curled up into a beautiful arc then he gestured at his mobile phone and shook it. “For this as well.”

He turned on the phone’s front facing camera and immediately, a young face was reflected on the screen.

“Mr. Yu, can you help me hold the phone? I’ll apply it.”

“You don’t have hands?””

“I have, I have. It’s just that I have to squeeze the ointment out and it isn’t convenient with one hand.” Xie Fei was still focused on the bruises littering the corner of his lips. He stretched out the tip of his tongue and lightly touched the wound.  Unconsciously, he added, “Will you help me--”

“How frivolous!”

???

He merely asked Yu Li to help him squeeze out the ointment. How is it frivolous?

Xie Fei looked up and his eyes lit up with amazement. He found that Yu Li was blushing strangely, cheeks red, and seemed to be choking with anger. Reluctantly, he grabbed the phone from Xie Fei’s hands and said. “I’ll take a picture of it for you at most. Apply it yourself!”

Xie Fei raised his eyebrows but nonetheless, carefully applied the medicine on himself.

After applying the transparent ointment, the wound stung a little. Instinctively, he wanted to lick it but he held himself back, enduring it instead. He bent down and pulled up his trousers, revealing the black and blue bruises on his shins.

“You have more injuries?”

“En. There were a lot of people,” Xie Fei said as he wiped the medicine on the bruises. “I wasn’t able to dodge some of them.”

Yu Li lowered his eyes. “Where else?”

Xie Fei straightened up, turned his back, and lifted the hem of his shirt, revealing a white waist. “Mr. Yu, can you help me again?”

Yu Li: “......”

The author has something to say:

Yu: You’re just trying to seduce me.
