“All the monsters inside were cleared out. We’ll go in first.” Gao Peng walked into the black mist hurriedly.
The staff member standing at the side wanted to stop him, but he was a step too late. Anxiously, he followed quickly. The two combat squads and the canine monsters they brought along to watch their surroundings followed suit.
Canine monsters had a keen sense of smell and were very sensitive to any possible threats around them. That was why canine monsters were a favorite of the police and the army alike.
When they came in, the few canine monsters were nervous at first because the stench was so thick in the air. The remaining scent of the monsters filled the area, causing unrest among the canine monsters, who were wagging their tongues and huffing.
Walking into the black mist, Gao Peng could feel the air drop a few degrees in temperature, but the visibility of the area was a lot better than expected. Gao Peng had thought he wouldn’t be able to see anything, but he could make out a few feet ahead of him.
Gray mist hung in the air. From afar, it would seem like a clump of black clouds, but inside, it was more like a thin film of gray.
A few dead Black Jacket Geckos were lying on the floor, some of them flattened or decapitated, and some were so torn apart that they looked like broken dolls.
Goldie looked at the bodies on the floor without feeling sorry. All these should’ve been fishes… What a waste of a chance to trick Gao Peng.
Slow-witted Gao Peng was just too easy to deceive.
The canine monsters stepped ahead to sniff the bodies. They seemed to be a little nervous as they snorted in the air a few times.
Then they stooped down and continued sniffing. One of the more courageous dogs tore off a large chunk from a body and started gobbling on the meat.
“Hey, don’t do that!” a trainer shouted at it loudly. The canine monster buried its own head into a Black Jacket Gecko’s stomach and helped itself to the meat inside while making loud chewing noises.
“This meat hasn’t been tested. What if they contract something?” The squad leader frowned. “Don’t let Giant eat that, man.”
“Sir, I don’t know why, but somehow, Giant isn’t listening to me today.” The trainer’s brow was dripping with sweat.
[Black Jacket Gecko Meat]: Causes hallucinations, and long-term ingestion can be addictive to monsters.
Gao Peng looked at the piece of meat in his hands and said, “Don’t let the monsters eat any of this.”
Da Zi was about to steal a bite when Gao Peng saw it and kicked its butt. “Don’t eat it.”
Da Zi turned around and moved on to another body.
“If you eat too much of this, you’ll become fat, just like Flamy,” Gao Peng whispered suggestively from behind.
Da Zi was immediately petrified.
…
As they went upstairs, their crisp footsteps echoed in the unfinished building. Because the construction was incomplete, every floor had holes in it, showing the rooms below.
Gao Peng felt like he was being watched along the way, but he couldn’t find the watcher.
On the third floor, there was a spatial rift floating in the air, as if somebody had torn a piece of cloth. The dark rift seemed mysterious, filled with the unknown.
The shape of the rift was an upright oval, ten feet tall and six feet wide. It seemed like even Dumby could go inside it if it crouched.
“So, this is the spatial rift.” Gao Peng looked at the rift in amazement. It was different from the ones he had seen on television previously. It was the first time he had laid his bare eyes on the real thing.
Plumes of black mist seemed to be seeping through from the other side of the rift. As the mist filled the air around them, the rift seemed to shake.

Then a shriveled pale yellow antenna reached out from the other side. With a little caution and a little curiosity, it waved around in the air to sense the world around it. It touched the chilly concrete floor, and after a pause, it ran over the surface.
After carefully scratching a layer of chippings away from the concrete floor, it swallowed them.
One minute, two minutes…
Three minutes went by, and it found the taste of concrete to be boring. The antenna continued to explore in another direction.
All of this happened while it was being watched unknowingly by the crowd in front of the rift.
After quite a while, another antenna peeked out of the rift, then a third and a fourth… Finally, a big head squirmed through the rift from the other side.
The eight eyes on its head stopped midway through the rift, locking eyes with the crowd before it awkwardly…
It was stunned at first, then it seemed very agitated.
It bared its fangs and crawled out, painstakingly, like toothpaste being squeezed through the opening of a tube.
Goldie rushed forward and, as it slapped its paw on the monster’s head, yelled, “Fish!” Then Goldie grabbed the head and pulled it out. The yellow creature let out a painful yell, desperately trying to get a hold of anything around it with its flailing fangs.
[Monster Name]: Yellow Jacketed Devil Octopus
[Monster Level]: Level 26 (Commander)
[Monster Grade]: Normal
[Monster Attribute]: Psychic
[Monster Status]: Healthy (Afraid)
[Monster Description]: A monster that likes to control the minds of enemies to satisfy its convoluted heart and finally devours its still fearful prey.
The Yellow Jacketed Devil Octopus tried to escape in fear when it was caught, but it was slammed on the floor again and again by Goldie like a toy.
It tried to manipulate Goldie’s mind, but it failed every single time. Goldie’s heart was too determined to be moved.
Besides, the difference in level was too large… It would have been stranger if it had actually succeeded in controlling Goldie’s mind.
Black Jacketed Gecko, Yellow Jacketed Devil Octopus…
Gao Peng was deep in thought as he frowned. It seemed like there were links between the two.
But what could Yellow Jacket and Black Jacket mean? Could it be their attribute? Black is shadow, and yellow is the mind?
Gao Peng gave a guess.
The Yellow Jacketed Devil Octopus was finally caught alive. To prevent any accidents, Gao Peng had Dumby follow him while bringing the fish back to the laboratory. Then they sealed it in the deepest part of the lab and ordered Xu Qingzhi to stay away from it.
It was Gao Peng’s first time seeing a Psychic-type monster. Perhaps the environment on Earth Star wasn’t conducive for the development of such attributes, since most of the rare types of monsters were from other worlds beyond the spatial rifts.
The monsters on Earth Star were based on the five basic attributes: Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Most of the monsters were also classified under one of these five.
After staring at the spatial rift for some time, a message popped up at the edge of his sight.
