Chapter 54: The truth about Onoda

Ayano looked at Shun and said, “I think that envelope contained a test result.”

Shun: “Test result…? You mean DNA test?”

Ayano: “Reiko-san can do the test herself, right? Isn’t her work related to something in that field?”

Shun: “So what you are saying is she know that Hisami and Onoda were having an affair since years ago. She suspected that she might be Onoda’s daughter so she took a test? There were two envelopes. One for her and one for Manabu-san?”

Ayano thought for a while before saying, “No, I don’t think so. If what you are saying is right, then I don’t think it can cause any trouble. It doesn’t matter whether Manabu-san and Reiko-san are Onoda-san’s or not. As far as Onoda-san is concerned, either answer should be within expectation. After all, Hisami-san was married to Uncle Toru. That is why… I think both of the envelopes are DNA test results for Reiko-san.”

Shun: “Both envelopes?”

Ayano folded her finger while saying, “One is a test result for whether Reiko-san is Onoda-san’s daughter. And the other one… I think it is a test result for whether Reiko-san is Uncle Toru’s daughter.”

Shun: “Then that means…”

Ayano: “Yeah. Reiko-san is neither Onoda-san’s nor Uncle Toru’s daughter.”

“I shouldn’t have taken the test,” Reiko said to Takato while looking down at her body on the windy rooftop. “I know about my mom and Onoda-san. I even wondered why they didn’t get married after my dad died. Even if they both were together when my dad was still alive, I don’t blame them because I know my dad could never forget about Chizuru-san.

But I think my mom was in love with my dad. That is why she never remarried and wasn’t serious about Onoda-san. She was only clinging to Onoda-san because he treated her well unlike her husband. That is why… for her, it didn’t matter if it was Onoda-san or someone else. She would hold onto anyone who treat her well. …I shouldn’t have taken the test,” Reiko said as she shed tears.

“I’m not Onoda-san’s daughter… and I’m not my dad’s daughter either. Onoda-san was the one who insisted to do the test. My dad actually didn’t have to show him about my mother’s affair. Onoda-san had been suspicious about my mom right from the beginning. But even so, he wished that I am his daughter.”

Onoda was hoping that he had a child with the woman he loved as a prove of their affection.

“But the test result really broke his heart when he caught my mom red handed.” Reiko shed tears of regret. “If only I am my dad’s child. Onoda-san killed my mom because he found out that my mom had betrayed him from a long time ago. And I’m to blame for his suicide too.”

“But Onoda-san didn’t commit suicide until a few days after he killed Hisami-san, right?”

Takato turned around when he heard the voice and saw Ayano standing next to Shun.
