Falling Sunset (5)

Muryeong’s eyes shook greatly. If he had something in his hand, he would have clearly dropped it. His face turned pale, and the noise around him suddenly buzzed away.

‘Why?’

Should you call it the hunch of an exorcist? It arose out of random doubt. They had said that there was a traffic accident, so there must have been someone behind it.

As soon as the ordinance was over, Muryeong got up from his seat and followed his homeroom teacher. Like a motherless duckling, he clung to him, fussing around.

“Teacher, where was Seungju injured?”

“Huh? Muryeong didn’t know that he was hurt either?”

“He didn’t pick up his phone.”

Muryeong frowned and showed his cell phone. If he knew this would happen, he would have stopped by Seungju’s house in the morning. He would always leave first, so he thought he’d come first today too.

“Ah…… That’s right. I heard his cell phone was broken. His arm is slightly broken but he’s going to be discharged from hospital today. You live next door, so if you’re worried, go there after school.”

The homeroom teacher said so and patted Muryeong on the shoulder. Muryeong, who had been contemplating about his cell phone being broken, breathed a sigh of relief after hearing the words of the homeroom teacher. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured if he was going to be discharged from the hospital today.

“Muryeong, be careful when you walk down the street too. If possible, wear a necktie too.”

It would have been nice if it was something that one could avoid simply by being careful. Muryeong roughly replied that he understood, and waved goodbye. He regretted not giving him a talisman.

And the moment he was about to go back to class, his eyes met with someone who just happened to come out of the hallway.

“……”

“……”

A neat tie, a shirt that was buttoned up to his neck, and one head taller than the other students. Despite the distance, Hwanyeong attracted too much attention.

Muryeong pretended nothing happened and pulled his gaze away from Hwanyeong. His head did not turn, but he managed to turn his body away naturally.

However, such efforts were in vain, and in an instant, Hwanyeong came in front of Muryeong.

“Kim Muryeong.”

“……”

How can a person be this quiet? The terrified Muryeong slowly blinked his eyes. He took a deep breath, and then exhaled again. Hiding his troubled face he raised his head up, and right there Hwanyeong’s face was looking at him.

“Uh…… Why?”

Really tall…… very huge. Even considering the small size of the Muryeong, Hwanyeong was too high. It was probably bigger than Seungju, but it was to the point that it felt intimidating.

“Do you have something to say?”

Even as he asked that question, Muryeong slowly retreated back. Hwanyeong glanced down at the sound of the dragging shoes.

Hwanyeong and Kim Muryeoung. Both of them were quite popular, so everyone’s attention was pointed at them.

“If you don’t have anything to say……”

“I have a request for you.”

“……”

Muryeong blinked his round eyes. request? As if asking like that.

“I’ll come back after school.”

Hwanyeong only mentioned a request and then immediately turned his back. Just as he was about to start moving away, Muryeong grabbed his arm without realising. The moment he wrapped his arms over his shirt, he felt a refreshing energy rushing in

“……that,”

After that small sentence Muryeong couldn’t talk for a few seconds. Not because of the fact that Hwanyeong’s body was too cold, but because of the way he looked back at him in surprise. Hwanyeong, who looked like he could shake off Muryeong at any moment, stopped moving with his arm in the air.

“I’m sorry…… I have a place to go after school today.”

Very slowly, Muryeong slowly released the arm that he was holding onto. After he completely removed his hand, he moved his fingers and took a step back. His hands, hidden behind him, closed and opened up.

“Can’t you do it tomorrow instead of today?”

“……”

At Muryeong’s words, Hwanyeong’s mouth closed. His neat lips turned into a straight line. After a few moments, he asked in a low voice.

“Your friend didn’t come to school today?”

“……”

He had nothing to say. Because Hwanyeong’s  words were true. While he thought back, Hwanyeong accepted Muryeong’s silence as an answer.

“Just a moment. It won’t take long.”

Muryeong did not say yes, but unfortunately, the bell rang to mark the start of the first period soon. At the same time, the students who were watching them went back to their classrooms. Muryeong slowly nodded towards Hwanyeong who was waiting for an answer.

“then……Wait in the classroom.”

“Our classroom?”

“Yeah. I’ll come when school is over.”

A puzzled look appeared on Muryeong’s face. He was going to ask why, but another question popped up.

“……Do you know what class I am in?”

Just like he did when he was nervous, Muryeong let out a small laughter. Because the face that asked that question looked really serious. That being said, he also knew what class he was in.

“I know, you’re in class three.”

“……”

“I’m just going to clean up instead of my friend, so wait in class.”

The teacher in charge of the first class came in from the end of the hallway. Muryeong slightly bit his tongue slightly with a face that showed he was missing Seungju. Then he patted Hwanyeong’s forearm and said;

“Hurry up and go. I will see you later.”

In the blink of an eye, Muryeong went inside the 7th class.

Suddenly, in front of the closed door, Hwanyeong touched a part of his arm like possessed. It was the part that Muryeong’s hand touched a little while ago.

* * *

-Uh, I didn’t get hurt too much. It’s been a day or two since my parents are unusual.

After eating lunch, Muryeong got to call Seungju through his mother’s phone number. Fortunately, his voice was fine, and his blunt tone was no different from usual.

He said he wasn’t seriously injured, but he had to take all sorts of tests at the hospital. That’s why he was hospitalised and absent. It was not unreasonable that the family’s concerns were skyrocketing, since their only son that they cherished so much was injured.

“How did you do that?”

―The bag strap got caught in the car’s side mirror. That’s why I fell and sprained my wrist. That’s how my cell phone broke also.

What the hell was this? At Seungju’s words, Muryeong gently rubbed his forehead. The bag strap was stuck in the side mirror. To be in such a situation due to misfortune. He didn’t know if this was because of luck or something else.

-Anyway, it’s nothing to worry about. I’m fine.

“Is your left hand hurt?”

– No, right hand.

“……”

Should he write him a talisman?

-Hey, I have to eat so I am hanging up.

With that, Seungju hung up the phone without any regrets. Muryeong also put down his cell phone without regret. Anyway, he said he was okay, so it seems he had to deal with the problem in front of himfirst.

The afternoon passed slowly as if someone was playing a prank. Muryeong took the class with bright eyes after a long time, and received exactly 3 praises from his teacher for it. He got complimented just for not sleeping, and if Seungju had seen it, he would have been shocked by how easy school life was.

“Then everyone, pay attention to cars and see you tomorrow.”

When the closing ceremony ended, Muryeong left the classroom after cleaning as slowly as possible. If he was going to make a request, it would be easier to have a conversation without the other students. Well, because he was too relaxed, the hallway was completely empty.

He could see the sunset sky through the hallway window. The setting sun shone with a mysterious light as if it had dissolved paint. Muryeong fiddled with the plastic inside his pockets with his hands.

‘What will he request……?’

Muryeong was someone who wouldn’t refuse a request made to him. Most of them were things he could solve on his own, and even if they weren’t, there were things he could somehow do. Besides, he often felt sorry at the idea of rejecting a request after someone confessed their troubles after consideration.

And so, for the first time since he entered high school, he felt like refusing a request. There wasn’t any reason behind it except for the fact that the other person was Ki Hwanyeong.

‘He didn’t have to ask me for it.’

As he got closer to Hwanyeong’s classroom, Muryeong felt an aura that sent shivers down his spine. His smooth and refreshing aura was clearer and purer than any aura he had ever felt. Even his mother, who was a leading exorcist, didn’t have such energy.

Just what was wrong for Hwanyeong to request something from Muryeong? Not just aura, but…… he even had that kind of ability. If he had this level of spirituality, his spiritual eyes must definitely be open too.

Standing in front of the classroom door, Muryeong took a deep breath for a moment. Placing his hand on his chest, he calmly focused on the sound of his heart beating. He was taught to do this whenever he felt anxious by his father.

It had been quite a while since Muryeong first grabbed the doorknob.

He peered inside through the glass on the front door, but there was no shadow of Hwanyeong. Was he sitting in the back? With that thought, he felt his heart pound as he opened the door.

“……”

Muryeong slowly went inside as if possessed by something. His hunch as an exorcist was constantly sending him signals of danger. And as if that was not enough, there was a tremendous energy that stuck to his skin like moisture.

“You came late.”

Kh. Kh.

The sunset shone. In the classroom where everyone had left school, only Hwanyeong was left sitting alone by the window, waiting for Muryeong. Second seat from the back. The very spot where the shadows fell. With his back straight, he spoke to Muryeong in a low voice.

“Come and sit down. Let’s talk quickly.”

Kh. Kh.

“……”

Muryeong stood still, not saying anything. His large eyes were filled with embarrassment, and his neck gulped down. A sharp sound pierced his ears in the silence that was so quiet that he could hear his breathing.

Kh. Kh.

“……You.”

Finally he managed to say something, but the rest of the words didn’t come. He just took a deep breath and fluttered his eyelids. The long hair, the nails dripping with blood, and the bare arms wrapped around his neck as if hugging him.

Can you not see that?

The words he couldn’t say pooled in his mouth. The ghost hanging from Hwanyeong seemed to be laughing with it’s mouth open.
