Lu Yunhe’s challenger simply sighed and admitted defeat.
He was confident that his spell-casting skill was on par with Lu Yunhe so if both their pet beasts were Rank 2, he might have stood a chance. But if it was against a Rank 3, continuing this battle would just be a waste of time.
Lu Yunhe was pleased with himself. He didn’t step down from the ring but challenged Xue Bao’er instead.
After all, Xue Bao’er was ranked third and she was the only person Lu Yunhe was confident to go up against. As for numbers one and two, Lu Yunhe knew his limits.
Next up was Xue Bao’er versus Lu Yunhe.
In this battle, Lu Yunhe was clearly relying on his pet beast’s superior rank whereas Xue Bao’er relied on her talent in spell-casting. If Lu Ba wasn’t Rank 3, Lu Yunhe knew that he wouldn’t have stood a chance against Xue Bao’er.
After all, he had lost against Xue Bao’er several times in the past.
“Lu Ba, go forth!”
In the previous match, Lu Yunhe hadn’t used any spells and relied purely on Lu Ba’s raw strength. But up against Xue Bao’er, although his pet beast had an advantage on paper, Lu Yunhe dared not underestimate his opponent.
Hence, he decided to use enhancement spells this time around.
“Berserk! Bloodthirst! Wind Blast!”
Three spells were cast in one go onto Lu Ba. The total spirit energy consumed by these spells was twenty-one stones. That was practically all of Lu Yunhe’s spirit energy.
Lu Yunhe was clearly going for a quick battle.
Blessed by three spells, Lu Ba grew in size as a tempest enveloped his body. Immediately, the beast pounced at its target.
Xue Bao’er on the other hand used only one spell.
Fire Spirit Possession.
It was the modified version Lin Jin had taught her. Even her teacher, Luo Beihe said that this new version of Fire Spirit Possession was by far, the strongest enhancement spell for her pet beast.
The effect of the Fire Spirit Possession was such that the flames on her pet beast took on the color of emerald.
These bizarre green flames burned brightly and were so intense that even the audience could feel its scorching heat.
Although it was only Rank 2 beast, Xue Bao’er’s wolf wasn’t at all inferior against Lu Ba at Rank 3.
The two pet beasts finally engaged each other in a battle.
Compared to the last few battles, this one was much more exciting, as demonstrated by how loudly the crowd was cheering.
In the arena, both Lu Yunhhe and Xue Bao’er wore dead-serious expressions, evidence that they were giving their all into the battle.
Lin Jin shook his head at this.
He had a gut instinct that if this went on, Lu Yunhe would lose the battle.
The guy was too rash. Lu Ba at Rank 3 was strong, but Xue Bao’er’s exotic fire wolf wasn’t weak either. Though there was a rank difference, with the Fire Spirit Possession enhancement, the exotic fire wolf could go up against Lu Ba for a short amount of time.
The problem here was that Lu Yunhe had exhausted all his spirit energy in one go. There probably wasn’t anything left in his energy reservoir.
Compared to him, Xue Bao’er had only used one spell.
Despite how costly the Fire Spirit Possession was, using up about seventeen stones’ worth, Xue Bao’er’s spirit energy volume was probably higher than Lu Yunhe’s. Hence, Xue Bao’er might be able to cast at least one more spell.
This spell might not be able to deal with Rank 3 Lu Ba, but it was more than enough to deal with Lu Yunhe.
As Lin Jin expected, Xue Bao’er invoked and cast another spell at once.
Spirit Fire Fist.
The fire came from her pet beast. This spell was widely loved and practiced among fire cultivators so the intelligent Xue Bao’er with her exceptional situational awareness could perform it with ease while still focusing on what’s in front of her.
A flaming fist could be seen going straight for Lu Yunhe. The latter was shocked and Lu Ba, being engaged in battle, couldn’t protect his owner in time. With his spirit energy depleted, Lu Yunhe didn’t have any means to defend himself.
“I admit defeat!”

Lu Yunhe made a decisive call. When faced with a scorching punch, he had no option but to surrender.
The fire punch stopped midair before disappearing.
After getting out of the arena, the first thing Lu Yunhe said to Lin Jin was, “I was too careless!”
“You mean too arrogant!” Lin Jin corrected.
This time, Lu Yunhe was indeed too full of himself by assuming that having reached Rank 3, Lu Ba could overpower Xue Bao’er. He never expected that Xue Bao’er could use spells to raise her pet beast’s capabilities and then cast an offense spell herself to force Lu Yunhe to surrender.
In fact, if Lu Yunhe hadn’t been overconfident, he could have won the battle. After all, this was a battle of pet beasts. Lu Yunhe was truly a genius to be able to lose in such a spectacular manner.
Perhaps embarrassed by his humiliating defeat, Lu Yunhe hung his head as he returned to his seat. Even Lu Ba was downcast looking somewhat like a frosted eggplant.
Xue Bao’er stayed in the arena. Lu Yunhe dared not challenge number one or two, but she did.
In the past, Xue Bao’er kept challenging Yang Jie and on several occasions, she even managed to force him into a corner. Everyone in the Friar Association knew how heartless Xue Bao’er could be, but when it came to cultivation, she was a one-of-a-kind prodigy.
Also, one other interesting detail was how Xue Bao’er would only challenge one person during such tournaments.
And that person was none other than Yang Jie.
Though, she did once declare that she wasn’t seeking to challenge Yang Jie specifically. No, what she said was that she wanted to challenge the Friar Association’s number one. It is because of this that there’s the inside joke that one should feel honored to be challenged by Xue Bao’er. It was her way of acknowledging a person’s strength.
Seeing Xue Bao’er still up there, Yang Jie got up out of habit, ready to enter the ring.
And yet, he had barely got the time to stretch his muscles when he heard Xue Bao’er shout, “Brother Lin, I’d like to challenge you!”
Yang Jie was dumbfounded.
In an instant, he didn’t know whether to sit or to continue standing.
Finally, he gritted his teeth and sat down, unable to conceal the rage and embarrassment on his face.
Forget Yang Jie, even Lin Jin thought it was humiliating. ‘Xue Bao’er never said she wanted to challenge you. Why did you stand up?’, he wondered.
Lin Jin patted the sleeping Xiao Huo awake before taking a step forward.
Perhaps it was because he just woke up, Xiao Huo was still a little groggy. Speaking of which, Xiao Huo’s last perfect evolution had been a little rushed. Though that didn’t affect his evolution, his body was still exhausted because of it. Hence, whenever he had time, Xiao Huo had been resting whenever he could to replenish his energy.
Once in the ring, Lin Jin tossed Xue Bao’er a bottle of pills.
This was a pill Lin Jin pelletized himself. A spirit energy pill.
Xue Bao’er said, “Brother Lin, I have my own pills.”
Lin Jin waved. “Mine’s different.”
Stunned, Xue Bao’er took one out and sniffed it. Her eyes lit up and she swallowed one before her face blossomed with delight.
Indeed, the Friar Association provided spirit energy pills, but Lin Jin’s pills were completely different from theirs.
The only similarity they had was the name. When it came to medical effects, the pills Lin Jin pelletized were at least several times more effective than the pills provided here. It was on a completely different level.
Xue Bao’er had depleted a large portion of her spirit energy by casting the Fire Spirit Possession. Now that she was starting a new round, she obviously had to replenish her energy and this was within the rules.
Of course, no matter how good a pill was, it couldn’t be consumed continuously. About eighty percent of Xue Bao’er’s spirit energy was recovered. She stared at the bottle in her hand. Lin Jin could tell what she was thinking so he said, “That’s for you to keep.”
Xue Bao’er chuckled happily as she put it away.
“Well then, Brother Lin, let’s get down to business.”
Xue Bao’er straightened up as she prepared for battle. It was obvious that she had been dying to have an official match with Lin Jin.
Even though she knew she was no match for him.
Lin Jin smiled. He thought of Xue Bao’er as a younger sister so he was fine with some light sparring if that was what she wanted.
But to be frank, Xue Bao’er could give her all, but he couldn’t. It was mainly because if he did, Xue Bao’er wouldn’t get a chance to attack.
Hence, Lin Jin said, “You first.”
