Chapter 56:
Memories [4]

[N POV]

The 4th incarnation, Claude.

He had no surname and nothing that could make him special.

He might be a good cook. But there are people that can cook better than him.

He’s not someone that's good at swords, nor was he great at the other things.

He’s a normal kid, in a normal time, living a not-so-normal life.

As a person from the Water God Style dojo, Claude can’t be said to be Isolte’s servant, nor was he a servant of the dojo.

He’s still a civilian.

Even his parents are helping Paul with his journey to search for the people missing from Metastasis.

He bears nothing to the Dojo; the only thing shackling him was his debt to Isolte’s saving grace. Without her, he might already be one of the corpses at the mining site.

One of the casualties from the metastasis.

Typically, a suspension bridge effect occurs here, in which the person being saved falls in love with the savior.

However, it is different from the others. Claude felt more subservience toward his savior.

‘it’s a life she saved. I’ll try my best to give her the best I can…’

This kind of mindset is something a girl would love. To have this kind of man as their companion will be a dream come true.

Not just for the woman, but the same for the guy.

Even so, Isolte was still green with this type of feeling. She had no reason to fall in love with a guy since all her mind was focused on improving her swords.

to be better.

That’s all she had on her mind.

Having Claude as her companion, she felt safe and enjoyed the time she spent with him. But, that doesn’t mean she’s in love with him.

He cared for her but didn’t have an ounce of passion within.

Because they are both romantically dense, neither of them feels strange about the way their relationship is.While the other actually thought of Claude as Isolte’s servant, a squire even.

On the journey, Claude can tell that someone is in love with Isolte. He didn’t get mad at it, especially the gatekeeper on Ars. That guy with the name Doga actually got smitten by Isolte and is training day and night to get better.

Later, he learns that Doga improved himself and became a North Saint, creating a commotion, and was raised to be a Royal Knight of the Asura Kingdom.

Unfortunately, he can't meet with Doga any longer because the day he had is coming to an end.

Will he succeed in courting Isolte, or will he fail?

That is not something he would know, since the future for him is not there anymore.

[4th incarnation Claude POV]

They said that the Holy Land of the Sword was the place where outstanding sword masters gathered.

There, you can see Saint-ranked Swordsmen and above more often than beginner-ranked Swordsmen in Ars Capital.

In fact, that’s the truth.

But, rather than swordsmen, this place is filled with lunatics...

Each day, everyone will spar with each other. The sane one would stop before getting injured, but there are more insane people than sane ones.

They all sparred until they were bathed in blood.

Some even got stabbed, being punctured throughout their bodies.

Some of the North style even impale each other using their weapon throw technique.

I, the sane one, feel scared of their insanity.

Is this really the way of the sword, or am I just in the wrong place?

"hey, Claude! Don’t stand there, it’s the place lunatics do their things! Come here!"

Oh, I really am in the wrong place...

"Coming!"

Later, I learned that those that feel their bottleneck tend to put their life on the line to overcome it. They did so because there’s a saint healer here in the holy land of the sword.

There’s also the fact that no death can reach them there, since the Sword God, Gal Farion, keeps an eye on them. Any attack that can instantly kill you will be dealt with by him, or the emperor's ranked swordsman.

How is that possible?

Don’t ask me, I don’t know anything like that.

What I know is the fact that Touki's a great thing.

Anywho, it didn’t take that much time for Lady Isolte to have friends.

"I’m the winner!"

"No, it should be me! Since I am defeating you! "

"I won against Eris!"

"You lose to me though!"

Right now, Lady Isolte and her companion are bickering with each other.

There are 3 oppositions to this quarrel.

Lady Isolte, who won against the Sword Saint Eris, and Nina Farion, who won against Lady Isolte but lost against Eris.

Since the three of them defeated one another, there comes the question, who’s the best?

They’re already doing the same bout over and over again, but there’s no definite winner yet.

"Well, let’s leave them be, and go do our thing, Jino."

"Right, let’s..."

Jino Britts is someone mediocre like me. It’s not that he’s untalented, but he just lacked the passion to do the sword thingy.

I know that he’s actually quite talented, but without the passion to do it. One can’t improve further.

Even if he’s lax in his training, he’s already at the peak of advanced in all styles. He just lacked the Touki to reach the Saint rank. He has the Touki, but the intensity is lacking compared to the real deal Saint-ranked master.

I envy him, but I don’t really know what to do.

I have no talent in the sword arts.

All I have is my cooking and cleaning abilities.

I’ve trained in swords, but I’m too old to train in the basics.

I’m intermediate in all styles at most. Even after training for 4 years, I can’t see any development.

I got better at cooking and cleaning though...

Jeez…

I was wasting my time by having a conversation with Jino in the daytime and cooking for Lady Isolte in the evening. I passed the day wonderfully, until I and Jino found something interesting...

"A dungeon..."

A dungeon appeared out of nowhere, and from within...

Monsters that have never before been seen emerge from there, monsters using unknown kinds of energy, killing almost everyone on the holy land of swords...
