Welcome to my simplistic school life.

Feel free to grab a chair and some popcorn while I navigate through this new experience.

Where do I start? Oh yes, the reason why I am here in the first place.

Saikoyo Prep wasn’t on my list of preferred high schools to attend, but as fate would have it, here I am.

Uh actually, my parents and I settled on two choices, and the third choice was added by a random family member.

Honestly, I couldn’t fully decide on an educational institute, so I settled on an old-reliable decision-making choice that has been passed down for generations.

The fabled "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe" and that’s how I ended up here.

That’s a neat story, right?

I’ll admit that this school is a bit weird. The benchmark to get into the school is 80%, but yet they don’t accept everyone who actually successfully passes the entrance exam.

I was lucky enough to make it in, even though I slacked off on the exam and scored an exact 60%.

So let’s fast forward to the first day.

As soon as I step into these gates, my normal high school experience begins, or so I hope.

I heard about the cutthroat environment of the school and never once believed it. Perhaps I was just being too optimistic? I was already used to harsh environments due to my previous upbringing, so I felt as if nothing could trump that for me.

While walking through the school's towering gates and up the recently power-washed stone stairs, I fixed my school uniform (which consisted of a dark blue blazer, white shirt, a tie and dark blue dress pants complete with black dress shoes).

Trying to remember that first impressions matter and that I should dress to impress, I had no idea who I would be impressing.

Upon climbing the last few sets of steps, I slightly huffed and puffed because it’s been a while since I jogged up some stairs. I saw a well-dressed man, no older than 45 years old, warmly greeting the students and shaking their hands.

After taking a deep breath, I slowly approached the man who introduced himself as the principal of the school, Yagi Akira.

I did feel a shady presence from him, but I chalked it up to me being too paranoid.

"Nice to meet you and welcome to my school," said Mr. Akira as he stretched out his left arm for a handshake.

"O-h well, thank you for that," I replied, while being caught off guard by the firmness of the handshake. It was a solid handshake from a well-regarded man.

Mr. Akira looked at me and smiled.

"Please make your way to the school’s auditorium for the address."

I nodded and made my way over there. I didn’t know the exact location of the auditorium, so I elected to just follow some of the students already heading there. I might as well get lost with a crowd rather than on my own.

After some walking, I finally approached the auditorium. It was a huge building, so I would go on the assumption that other events are hosted there as well.

Entering the auditorium. I observed that it was a large open space, with the stage being to the far right of the room. The other students were already gathered in their respective classes.

I should probably start looking for my class soon. I wish they had a sign or something. Something along the lines of "Class 1-4," please gather in this area.

Unfortunately, life can’t be that simple now, can’t it?

It was as if the Universe had answered my silent pleas for a sign. I heard a voice saying, "Is this where class 1-4 will be gathering?"

"Uh yes. We’re supposed to be right here."

Alright, we’re making progress right now. I followed the direction of the sound and found myself approaching a group of students.

They looked as clueless as me, but hey, birds of a feather flock together, right?

I stood next to a female student who stood a little distance from the group of students. She has peach-colored hair and is roughly 5’5 with a petite body. I’ll admit that she has a pretty face despite the deadpan expression she has currently.

Maybe that’s just her natural face.

At first she didn’t acknowledge my presence, but after a while she spoke.

"Uh, you’re standing a bit too close to me."

Heh? I am literally standing an arm’s length away from her.

Since I was a bit confused by the statement, I kept quiet.

She doubled down on the statement and said, "Are you one of those guys who likes to be in other people’s personal space?"

I turned my head towards her and replied, "I am not sure what you quite mean."

She was about to respond when her statement was cut short by the principal addressing the school.

I’ll admit it. I may have zoned out for the entirety of the speech.

I only snapped back to reality when I felt the cold stare of someone.

I slightly turned my head to the left and saw that it was the same girl.

Sigh, what is her problem now?

There was feedback from a microphone, and that caught my attention.

I took a look around and noticed a tall male student standing there behind a podium.

It was obvious that he was going to address the entire student body.

"Good morning, returning students and new ones. I am the Student Council President, Yuu Kaneko."

Once again, I'm drowning out the boring speeches.

After a bit, the assembly was over, and we had to return to the classrooms.
