When Jason opened his eyes, he saw a weird white ceiling above him. He stared at it for a while since it felt like his brain had turned off for a while, and it was slowly recovering. Jason felt that he would need some extra time to rest because he saw things as well.

"Oh my God… You are awake!" A middle-aged man suddenly opened the room and said.
Jason didn't recognize the man, but he recognized the man's clothes. He was a doctor… And Jason realized that he wasn't at home and he suddenly got up from the bed.
"What the hell? Why am I in a hospital bed?" Jason asked.
"You are way too lively for someone who spent six months in comatose," The doctor said. "The wounds in your body are mostly healed, but it seemed that something else was tormenting your spirit."
"My spirit?" Jason asked.
Jason frowned since that wasn't the type of thing a doctor would usually say. Still, after a few seconds, a nurse entered the room, and Jason could see a window on his right side. It was closed, but he could see Los Angeles or at least someplace that seemed like Los Angeles. He didn't remember seeing some walls around the city the last time he checked.
"You will need to calm down first… Many things happened while you were sleeping," The doctor said. "You have been sleeping for six months. Speaking of which, what is your name? We didn't find any of your documents on that collapsed building."
Jason was left speechless… Hearing that he was in a coma for six months seemed like a bad joke, but then he saw some things flying around the city, and it didn't seem like it was a TV mimicking a window.
"... It is Jason," Jason replied, completely perplexed.
"Good, it seems that you are the type who adapts fast," The doctor said. "Well, Jason. What is the last thing that you remember?"
"I was working in that convenience store… And then I felt that I needed a girlfriend… And then darkness," Jason replied.
"If you can even joke around in a situation like this, then I am sure you will be completely fine," The doctor said. "That being said, I somehow feel that you are telling the truth. You got injured in the head, so it makes sense that you only remember a few things."
The doctor didn't waste time and began to tell Jason about what happened. It seemed like a crazy story. Spatial fissures, monsters, superpowers, walls, half of the human population had died. It was too much to swallow at the same time, but Jason couldn't let the situation get the better of him. He had to move on and adapt as he learned more about how things had changed.
"I see… I understand everything," Jason said. "Since you didn't know my name, I can assume that no one came to visit me, right?"
"If you are referring to your family, then you are right. They didn't come," The doctor said. "However, some other individuals came to visit you. It seems that you have the potential to be awakened, so they checked your power level. Unfortunately, it seems that you aren't at the top like some others. You have no particular quirk or ability. You must be just a bit stronger than a human, thanks to the mana on your body."
"Who were those?" Jason asked.
"The leader of some organization created to protect the cities and the rest of the human species," the doctor said. "They are called by many names, clan leaders, guild masters, human lords. Well, they are a busy bunch, so you shouldn't worry about them. Unfortunately, I have to go as well. After the last battery of tests, it seems that you are as healthy as a bull, so you can leave as soon as you want, but… We have some bad news for you."

Jason could already imagine the bad news… Eventually, the doctor returned with a change of clothes for Jason and the hospital bill… He probably had lost everything, but he barely woke up and already had to pay twenty-four thousand dollars for his time in the hospital. It seemed overpriced, but the cost of all things has increased since the incident six months ago.
"Oh, man… What am I going to do now?" Jason thought. "I bet I can't even find a job at a convenience store anymore… Do I have no other choice aside from selling my purity? I guess I should feel happy that I can joke around in my current situation."
Jason had many things to do, look for his family, learn more about the situation, and then find a way to pay the hospital bill before someone came and forced him to sell his liver or something.
"Man, even after the end of the world, the cost of the American health system never disappoints…" Jason said and then sighed. "Putting that aside, I wonder if I am fully recovered."
Jason still could see the HUD bar in the corner of his vision. The doctor said that he didn't have any brain damage, but he didn't want to look for him and ask if that was the case or if it was something that everyone had now. Regardless, something weird happened when Jason focused his eyes on that.

Jason could only think that he had lost his mind. Then again, the world had gone to hell and back while he was unconscious, so everything was possible.
