Chapter 31: This is awkward

He walked with McKenna to where Elixir was standing but immediately she saw them walking towards her, she turned and started walking towards the opposite direction.

"Mom! Stop walking away. This is ridiculous. How long are you going to give me the silent treatment?" Jason almost started running to stop Elixir.

He stopped her before she entered her car.

"Mom! Use your words!" 

Elixir opened her bag and brought out a pad and pen and wrote something on the paper and showed him.

"What does that mean?" Jason asked her. He was about close to tears.

"Mom, we are sorry" McKenna apologized to her mother in law.

Elixir wrote again in her pad and showed them.

BOTH OF YOU SHOULD STOP TALKING TO ME.

"You are not going to stay mad at us forever, are you?" McKenna asked with a nervous smile.

Elixir gave them a stern look.

"That is her 'I can stay mad at you forever' face" Jason explained to his wife.

The smile left McKenna's face, immediately.

"Mama, please... I am going to find a way to make it up to you" Jason took her hand into his.

Elixir rolled her eyes at him.

"It's not Jason's fault. He didn't know. If you are going to be mad at anyone then be mad at me. Jackson Donna is my bio father but I hate him just like you do. I didn't choose him as a parent, not that he was ever that to me. I am a Yagazie now not a Donna. You won, don't you see? plus I took a big contract from him for Elixir Yagazie corp., yesterday. I will take more, tomorrow. I won't beg for your forgiveness anymore" McKenna tried to hold a straight face but a second later she was holding Elixir's hand and jumping like a child "I won't beg but I will sing forgive me in Spanish if I have to. Mom, please!"

Elixir gave it a thought for a second.

"I won, didn't I?"

"You did" Jason was eager to answer.

"The contract you took from his wobbly little finger did it hurt?" Elixir had her evil look on her face.

"It hurt so much that he barge into my office to whine about it" McKenna answered with a smug.

"Good. I am glad it hurt" She looked at her children with stern eyes "I have demands...no Donna at the dinner table, no Donna talk, no Donna anything whatsoever...capeesh?" 

"Hmm... I am...kind of...trying to form...a bond with my sister and little brother and they are... Donna's...so-"

"Seriously, guys!" Elixir yelled at her.

"But it is going to piss off Jackson that his other children are having dinner with the Yagazies" McKenna moved closer to whisper to Elixir "He might throw a coronary and end up in the hospital"

McKenna said it like it would be a dream come true. It made Elixir smiled.

"Fine. The Donna brats can come"

"Does that mean we are cool, mom?" Jason asked her.

Elixir gave it a thought. How was she planning on staying mad at her only child anyway? She hissed in resignation.

"Of course, baby. You are kind of my only child. I don't really have an option but to forgive your behavior" 

Jason smiled and kissed her cheek.

"I should check on Kara" He said and started walking towards the duplex thinking that McKenna was right behind him.

"McKenna?"

"Yes, Mom"

"Don't think I don't know you just manipulated me into forgiving you" Elixir said with a stern look and walked again. She smiled as soon as she was out of McKenna's view sight. Elixir knew she would have done the same. The girl was now a Yagazie after all.

McKenna let out a breath and scratched her hair before following her into the house.

The rest of the day went seamlessly for a while until she walked in on Naya in the kitchen. She needed a glass of water.

Naya was washing the dishes manually. She stopped her chore as soon as McKenna entered the kitchen.

"Thanks"

McKenna stared at her. Why was she thanking her?

"Thanks for finding my daughter. Thanks for jumping on a jet to come meet her. I know this must be awkward for you" Naya continued in a mellowed voice.

"Awkward? Of course not...I am only sitting in the same room with a woman my husband use to sleep with and who will be a part of my life for a very long time because he is Jason and Jason is kind, thoughtful and the type of man who adopts his ex girlfriend's kid. He is also the type of man that dumps the whole stuff on me few hours before he pushed me into a jet to come meet the most adorable blue eyed kid I have ever seen...who may or may not hate me. There is nothing awkward about that...how can it be? I am good" McKenna smiled nervously "This is my -I am good face. Pssh! This is not awkward yet I am rambling nervously!"

Naya looked at her with kind eyes. She opened the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water and handed it over to McKenna.

"Yeah, this is awkward, McKenna. And you are right. It can't be easy for you. I know it wasn't for me to meet face to face with the woman that I always knew deep down that he was going to chose. The dude is crazy about you. And I feel like I know you even though we are meeting for the first time. Jason and I...we are just... family. I am not your competition" 

McKenna kept her opinion to herself and drank her water. Naya wasn't the person that was supposed to calm her down. And she wasn't trying to be anyone's friend.

"They are close" McKenna said at last.

"Yes, they are. At times, I feel like I am on the outside looking through a window on them and to be honest, I am jealous at times" Naya saw the weird outlook on McKenna's face and quickly added "It won't happen to you of course"

McKenna stood up and returned the bottle of water to the refrigerator. "I should go find Jason. It was nice meeting you, Naya"

Except McKenna knew it wasn't.. There was nothing nice about the way she was feeling.
