Chapter 93: Things we don't know

Jason checked his hair in the mirror. He needed a haircut. Jason decided that after the activity he had today at the golf club then he would get the hair cut.

"Baby, remember that we have dinner plans with Lucy's parents today and please, try to be on your best behavior" Mckenna said as soon as she came out of the bathroom.

"I will try. It feels like I am meeting my future son in law except he is eight and I can't give him the I - am - going - to - hurt - you - if - you - hurt -my - daughter - speech but hey, I will do my best" Jason and picked up a comb.

Mckenna smiled and sat on the bed.

"I am surprised that your mother invited you to play golf with her after the stunt you pulled the other day" Mckenna told him and she started folding the clothes on the bed. They were her clothes and she really didn't mind leaving them there for a while but her husband was a neat freak and he would simply do it and end up going to the golf club late.

"I am surprised too. Did you know she taught me how to play golf when I was nine years old? She learnt how to play at ten and I am hoping Kara would beat the record and do it at seven. I am thinking she should start golf lessons and horse riding after her birthday in a few weeks" Jason said and dropped the comb she was holding.

Mckenna was both surprised and amused, she knew that Jason was joking. It was a funny joke because there was no way she was letting him put their seven year old on a horse.

Mckenna picked up a trouser and started folding it.

"Yeah right, what is next? Are we going to teach her how to fly an airplane?" Mckenna laughed heartily.

Jason turned around to look at her.

"Don't ridiculous! She is too young to fly an airplane but as soon as she is ten or eleven, I will start her first flying lesson. We will start small with a helicopter" Jason said and picked up his car keys.

Mckenna chucked at first when she thought he was joking but Jason simply stared at her. He wasn't smiling.

Then it dawned on Mckenna slowly, he wasn't kidding about any of it. He was seriously considering enrolling her seven year old daughter for horse riding, golf and in the nearest future, flying lessons.

"You are not joking, are you?" Mckenna dropped the clothes she was holding on the bed.

"No, I wasn't. Did you think I was joking?" Jason asked her.

"Yes! You can't seriously do that to her" Mckenna had an outrageous look on her face. Then she started remembering things Jason had told her over the months she assumed that he had been joking. She was seriously considering that he was not.

"Do what to her? Make her self sufficient? Yeah, I am committing a huge crime by looking out for our daughter and preparing her to face the real world" Jason was becoming irritated by the minute. He hated that Mckenna thought he was unreasonable when all he was doing was teach Kara how to be good in every aspect of life.

"When you told me last week that at eighteen you will cut her off financially and she has to set up a business of her own, please tell me you were kidding" Mckenna asked him.

"I wasn't. By eighteen years old, she will no longer get any penny from us except the trust fund she will be given to build her life" Jason's voice was firm.

She just stared at him with wide open eyes, unable to shut it like she was seeing an alien. And it was their first encounter.

Mckenna wondered why she had never had this side of him. It was like a stranger was in their bedroom, not her husband.

"I am sorry but you are not making any sense, Jason. I feel like I am looking at a stranger. You can't seriously plan to raise her like she was in a laboratory. You have to allow her to be a little girl" Mckenna told him.

"Of course, she will be. She will go to amusement parks and play with Legos and toys but she is my daughter. She will not be a regular kid. She will sit in on board meetings occasionally by 16 and have an opinion about the running of the company by 17" Jason answered her.

Suddenly McKenna's heartbeat increased and she wasn't able to move.

"What if I am against that type of parenting skill?. What if I object strongly to it?" Mckenna needed to know.

"I am sorry but Kara and any other children we have in the future have to be raised like that. My great grandfather, my grandfather and my mother were all raised that way. I was raised that way and I turned out pretty okay, don't you think?" Jason asked her.

"No, you didn't. Until last year, you couldn't be in the same room with your mother because you thought she cared about money more than she cared about you. You couldn't stand her, Jason. Do you want Kara not to be able to stand you too?" Mckenna knew that it was turning into a full blown argument.

"Wrong, I am what I am today because of my mother. Because of how she raised me. And I couldn't stand her because I thought she had a hand in the disappearance of Tammy, that's it. Elixir Yagazie is the best mother a boy could ask for" Jason knew that he had to calm down and find a way to talk to his wife without turning it into a bigger argument.

But she had condemned his mother's parenting skills and it bothered him.

Mckenna stared at him in disbelief. She knew all about Tamara Jones, aka Tammy. She was Jason's first love and best friend. Hell, it's been ten years since she disappeared and Jason was still looking for her. Jason still loved Tamara Jones and Mckenna knew it. She knew it but she refused to talk about it.

She had told him that it didn't matter if he still looked for Tammy as far as he saw her too. It was a stupid thing to have said to the man she loves.

"I am not raising my children that way Jason" Mckenna whispered in resignation.

"I am sorry but it's not up for debate. If they are going to inherit from me then they have to follow the rules, Mckenna"

Jason saw the look on her face. She looked like she had been slapped. Jason was too angry to feel bad about it.

Mckenna stood up and tried to walk away but Jason stopped her.

"You are looking at me like I blindsided you. You knew who I am…who my family was when we got married, Mckenna" Jason held her arm.

"I don't think I know who you are, Jason. I never thought you would tell me that I will not have a say on how we raise our children" Mckenna's lip trembled slightly.

She was so angry that she could barely control it.

She might look calm on the outside but inside, she was boiling.

"I didn't say that. I said our children will be self-sufficient. You are making it sound like I said I was going to ship them off to military school. You knew that I am a Yagazie when we got married, Mckenna"

Mckenna pushed his hand off.

"I guess I forgot, you are Jason Ekoh-Yagazie and you are all powerful and your word is law. Fuck you! You don't get to make a unilateral decision about anything without involving me. Fuck you, Jason!"

Mckenna stood upright earning her another inch and she made sure her back was not slouched and her chest was pushed forward. Her posture looked painful. But she wasn't backing down from this fight, if she did then it would set precedent over any other argument in the future.

"What the hell is wrong with you? You don't speak to me in that tone. I haven't done anything to deserve it" Jason finally lost his temper too.

He slowly backed away from McKenna as she pushed herself to stand upright.

Her hands were shaking but just a little bit and her breathing was taking its sweet time to get back to normal.

Jason backed away because he didn't want to say anymore stuff that would cause a bigger fight. They were already yelling and they have a kid in the house.

"Are you still looking for her?" Mckenna said out of nowhere.

"You are not making any sense. Am I still looking for who?" Jason asked her

"Tamara Jones! Are you still looking for her?"

Jason blinked. He didn't understand when the argument jumped from the way their kid and unborn kids should be raised to his long lost girlfriend Tamara.

"Why are we talking about Tammy?" Jason asked her.
