A loud powerful voice reverberated in the surroundings, everyone stood stiff on the spot. Riel maintained an expressionless face.
In the center of the ground where an elevated stage was set, First Lieutenant Sanders stood there holding a megaphone. I pity those eardrums that shattered. Fortunately our group was a distance away from the center.
"As the First Lieutenant, I welcome you to the TALENT demonstration today! I'll refrain from giving a long speech so listen up. I want all of you here to aim for your best. Show to the officers how your TALENTS can benefit this country. Pay attention to your surroundings and-- I warn you-- this is not a place to use your TALENTS to harm another individual. We have excellent medic stationed around the place so if any accidental friendly-fire happens accidentally, seek their aid immediately. NOW without further ado, I would like to pass this on to our invited guest, disaster prevention specialist, master sage, Miss Tsu."
The crowd fell silent. I wasn't sure if it was out of expectation or awkwardness, nobody talked when the lieutenant walked off stage. It was then a woman went up to replace him. Her face was obstructed by her out-of-place military hat. She wore a similar uniform to Riel but it was the female kind with a loose skirt instead of pants. There were many badges displayed on her shoulder plate. Her hair that was let loose had a tinge of sea blue to it.
Ah-- so this is the premonition I felt. So this world renown disaster defusing expert came to visit her school huh? Was she the cause of the rain that lasted the entire last week? Maybe.
She paused, and turned to the crowd and took off her hat-- letting her hair freely sway in the wind. Like a willow. Gentle. Graceful.
Well… from where we're standing, her back was facing us, unfortunately, so she turned away from our crowd. It would've been so dramatic if those of us here weren't looking at her back. Oh well.
I looked around. Bryan, Milli and Jay were entranced by her back, Riel maintained his expressionless expression but his eyes were sharper, as if looking at her in high regard. When I turned to Liliath, I noticed that she wasn't looking at Miss Tsu at all, but another direction-- tracing her line of sight-- I saw that girl this morning, Lyndia.
She was too far away so I couldn't tell her expression. All I know is that her line of sight was directed to the centre of stage just like everyone else.
"Students of Mondai High, today I've come specially to meet you all. How have you been? It's been a little more than two weeks since you've started school, hopefully you all are doing well," Her voice echoed through the megaphone. She had your typical female voice, somewhat motherly, "Mondai High is a place where I've made many memories, and it may one day become a place you look back to and reminisce about. So please enjoy your limited time here to the utmost. As an ex-student of this school, I would like to extend my heart-felt greeting to all students here. My name is Tsu Miral, welcome to Mondai High. I hope everyone does their best in today's performance."
Ending her humble speech, the students roared an applause. High pitched whistles could be heard weaved together with the claps and erratic yells. I felt as if I was standing at an idol concert. Or was I actually?
"Now, you may all be wondering, if today's event is for selecting talented people, what's it got to do with a demonstration? I'll be answering that question for you all today. I call this-- the sea in the sky."
"That's the queue, get ready," Riel siad.
Water particles levitated from our feets, the surroundings filled with droplets, each shimerling in iridescent diamonds. The students let out voices of awe.
I didn't get what Miss Tsu was doing but Liliath certainly reacted to the changes. her eyes darted around the place before she looked straight up. I traced her gaze to see-- a truck-- no, a whale sized water ball converged in the air.. no.
WHAT IN THE FUCK. THAT'S ACTUALLY A WHALE!?
The thousands of small levitating water particles shot up into the air in unison, converging, they become shoals of different species of fish.
The whale the size of a whale, made out of water, beat it's fins, descending. The fishes drifted, tracing majestically around the whale before shooting down to the ground at a rapid speed. Scattering at a distance of 5 meters above us, they orchestrated themselves in a snowflake pattern.
The light of the sun reflecting off the surface of the fish, a hundred rainbows that reflected in our eyes.
The fish spiraled outwards, creating a hole in the centre. The whale dived down towards-- towards Miss Tsu. The students gasped, me included. I thought the whale was going to squash her flat, but outside my expectation, the whale fizzled out into a thousand droplets and swirled around her.
She spun her body, arms tracing the droplets gracefully, hair tracing the air. I caught a glimpse of her unorthodox, cerulean coloured irises. The fishes that swam outwards looped around and came back to the centre.
Pointing her hands to the sky, the water droplets spiraled upwards like a vortex, the fishes rushed into the scene, breaking apart, turning back into water.
Then she brought her hands down.
The vortex ruptured. A thunderous sound boomed.
Pitter. Patter.
Millions of water beads descended from the sky like mist. It didn't wet our clothes-- only to the point of dampening it. I held my hands out to feel the air.
And when all the water dissipated, a beautiful triple rainbow, larger than any I've seen, appeared in the sky.
"I would've never thought there would be someone who exceeds my level of proficiency," Liliath said, her voice laced with a hint of awe and disappointment.
"Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Don't let it get to you."
The water show was-- to put it in one word: Unreal.
The sheer detail articulated for each movement, every fish bestowed with it's own personality. It was beyond divine.
A momentary silence broken by one clap-- then another, and another-- until roars and cheer exploded in the surroundings,
Sounding the end of a once in a life-time performance.

"Bryan, can you give me a brief personal opinion of your.. um.. dragon," Riel, tapping his pen on the file, then at Bryan, asked.
Bryan, who is the summoner of an orange fruit dragon. He took a step back from Riel's pen attack.

"Orion-- I wouldn't say he's cut out for combat but-- he does make some pretty good orange juice."
"Okay.." Riel nodded, probably feigning calmness, "Could you think of any possible usefulness of your summon in combat?"
"Usefulness-- I could have it shoot hyper pressurized orange juice at a target."
"Let's test it out at the training target then."
And so we went to the shooting range. A number of students could be seen shooting projectiles-- one person holding an actual AK with soundproof headphones on-- managing to hit a target at the 300 meter mark? Is that normal for an AK? I wasn't too sure. All I knew was that the AK was making no sound, probably due to another person's TALENT.
There was also someone tossing a boomerang made up of light. Not sure if it has any practical uses but I suppose all officers are to treat each student equally.
"Orion, orange beam!" Bryan, pointing at the iron wall with various depths of dents, shouted like a certain monster trainer you can find in certain anime.
Orion's semi transparent eyes gleam. A powerful laser-like beam of orange juice pierced through an iron bulwark created by someone's TALENT. Opening a hole through the other side. Damn, that thing is at least 10 centimeters deep and pressurized orange juice was able to go through it?! That's insane.
"That's surprisingly strong," Riel looked stunned, jotting down his observation in his notebook. "Anything else you could think of?"
"Not really-- wait, one more. Orion, a cup of orange juice please."
The orange fruit dragon, Orion, peeled a part of orange skin from itself-- fortunately it regenerated in an instant-- and molded it into a beautiful crystalline cup using some unknown sorcery. After that.. well.. It spit out orange juice into the cup and passed it to Bryan.
Dragon spit is orange juice...
"Here, try some."
"O-Okay." Riel timidly accepted the glass of orange juice. Before ingesting the drink, he took a whiff of the drink to confirm it's edibility. "It's surprisingly good. I'm surprised it's sweet."
Sweet-- so you're saying the dragon creates sweet orange juice. Haah.. that one hella interesting TALENT alright. I'm questioning why I'm not seeing any ants eat the dragon inside out as if questioning my existence.
"Next, Milli, give me a brief description of your dragon."
"Yup. Hey, Dravis, give that piece of scrap metal everything you've got!"
To Millis enthusiastic command, the chinese dragon let loose a roar and charged towards the iron bulwark, spitting blue flames at extreme temperatures that i could feel even from this distance.
The wall melted into lava, the dragon succeeded in burrowing a hole and escaped through the other side before looping through the sky and returning to Milli's side. It's whiskers waved elegantly in the air, eyes looking down at the orange fruit dragon as if to prove it's superiority.
Though, the orange fruit dragon didn't think much of it, and prepared another cup of orange juice for Bryan to quench his thirst with. I can tell which dragon is more superior in this situation.
"Good. I think there could be some use to that sort of flame. Could your dragon go any higher?"
Milli looked at Drakis, and for some reason, despite not being able to speak, gave a nod.
"Okay. Fire is it's only attack attribute? Is there anything else? I just want to double check."
"Yes, fire only."
Rial nodded satisfactorily as he jotted down notes in the file. It seems Milli would likely be recruited. Her demonstration was briefest-- straight to the point.
"After this is Jay. Is your summon alright?"
"I suppose it's fine now…" Jay looked down at the shrunken smile clinging to his shoes. Looks like it had intelligence.
"Anything noteworthy?"
"Not really. Though if we're talking about his quirks, it would be that it can corrode any material and change it into slime. THe reason it can shrink-- I don't really understand either."
"I see. Could I take a sample of it's slime? There might be some potential if it can turn substances like plastic into more environmentally friendly substances."
The slime didn't really have any distinctive smell to it but if i were to describe it into words-- it would be that it smelled like bottled mineral water. Which was more of a pleasant smell than an unpleasant one.
"Yeah. Belga, don't be scared of uncle Riel alright."
The slime wriggled as if understanding his words. Pfft--uncle huh? How parent-like. Riel didn't particularly mind but a bitter smile formed on his face.
Riel took out a small vial from his pocket and, putting on gloves, took a sample of the slime. Belga cooperated well and extended one of its pseudopodia to be sacrificed.
"Good work Belga," Jay said-- and the smile bounced as if in joy. How cute.
"Last one would be you two. Noel and Liliath. Could you enlighten me with any particularly useful trait? Liliath?" Riel directly asked Liliath.
