"LUK set to a million," Nine said. Using her hands that had some bubbles on it, she fingered the air to operate her status window.

I'm not being suggestive here.

"Are you sure? I'm just asking.. you don't actually have to do that.."

"That's why I didn't adjust it before. I'll keep it set at that number for today as a challenge, what do you think will happen?" Nine looked at me. Yeah, this Nine is better than male Nine.

"Hopefully a dragon doesn't drop out of nowhere and then ask for it to be tamed by you or something," I muttered, I rinsed the plate under the water.

"Hell no.. " Nine said, blinking at me with a mixed expression of both astonishment and reproachment.

We don't have any idea what the statuses actually mean. STG, DEF, MP and HP are easy to figure out, but others like DEX, INT, AGI and LUK are a mystery. It's not like we became the flash or quicksilver. When we asked Unknown about it, he just told us to learn for ourselves. True.. we shouldn't keep depending on others.

Over the past few days, the highest natural value  for LUK we've seen so far is 30.

As usual, Nine and I were responsible for washing the plates for today. We were in Prune's apartment domain, since it's more convenient to do the dishes here. Normally, people of this world would use bar soap and a bucket of water-- water from magic-- to clean the oil and food stains off the plate.

Yes, bar soaps do exist. But why did the toilet bowl not exist then?

Miss Margrett pulled open the grill at the entrance, and snow that had accumulated overnight poured into the store.

"Is it alright if we wait for the mage to clear out the path?" Miss Margrett asked.

"No problem!" Jenn-chan said and placed her bag down on a random chair beside the basket of small red pop flowers.

It snowed heavily last night? I didn't know actually.

Jennifer then ran to the entrance.

"Snow snow go away!" she pointed at the snow that was starting to melt and.. it disappeared. Then she turned to us, "Do you know this magic?"

We actually told Jennifer-chan and Miss Margrett how we're still newbies when it comes to magic. I could only cast two kinds of basic magic currently.

"No. I don't actually," I said.

"What magic is it then? It turns the snow into nothing?" Nine asked.

"Yes, it converts matter back into magically energy."

"Hah?" Nine blurted in a confused voice. I mean.. I was of the same mind.

"It is something you two know about, correct? After all, it was a concept introduced by the heroes," Miss Margrett added.

"Yes it is something we know but.. "

In any case, Jenn pushed through the snow that was feet deep and started playing around.

"Jenn-chan, you'll get your clothes dirty."

"No it won't, I'll be careful!"

"Then mommy will go do some work for a bit.. Noel, Nine help me watch over Jenn for a while."

"Sure thing."

By the way, Liliath and Prune were in a way having their 'girls' time just like how Nine and I were having our 'boys' time. Not particularly sure what they were doing but I'm sure not even Nine and I know what we were doing.

Nine took a prudent step into the snow. His boots sunk in, leaving large footprints behind.

"This is a lot of snow," Nine said.

"I know right.."

It's not everyday you get to loiter around a snow filled area.

The entire street was covered in snow from one end to another-- not quite. There was a portion of the street cleared by a mage using a similar kind of magic Jennifer-chan used. To put it basically, a human bulldozer. The sky was orange-blue and the sun was high enough in the sky to peek above the kingdom's wall.

Splat.

I felt something cold hit my face.

That hurt. I rub the sore part.

"Hey.."

"It's a snowball fight you know?" Nine breathed out a cold mist.

"Do it to Jennifer-chan not me..."

Splat.

Another one hit my clothes.

"Is that how you treat the landlord's daughter?" In an innocent voice, Jennifer tilted her head and asked.

"No.." that's some harsh statement you said there.. "What exactly did I say wrong to diss you?"

"Hit him!" Nine overruled my question and started to pack another snowball, Jennifer did the same. Nine was wearing gloves but Jennifer was bare handed. A thin mana film covered her hands, probably acting as magic gloves.

"I'm not going to.."

Splat.. this time I intercepted Nine's snowball with my hands.

"HAhahaaha-- owh?!"

"Take that!" Jennifer cheered and laughed.

Nine got hit in the face… and toppled over. The mini peanut gallery consisting of the other shop owners that watched our interaction from within their own stores either gasped, chuckled or.. something in between.

"Ah sorry, are you alright?!"

"Eh.. "

"What's wrong?"

"I see something in the snow."

"In the snow?"

Nine started digging, and what he found was a pouch…

"Coins.. lots and lots of them," Jennifer-chan said after looking at the contents inside.

"What do we do with this?" There were at least a dozen gold coins alone.

"Maybe your mother knows who it belongs to?"

Nine passed it to Jennifer-chan.

"I'll go ask," she nodded with a serious face and entered the florist together with the pouch.

"Do you think someone dropped it? Or is the LUK stats working?"

"Dunno. We'll wait to find out.. we might even get to.."

"Excuse meh--"

Nine and I turned to the source of the voice. It was a young adventurer wearing light armour. He looked ragged, and seemed to be in a rush.

"Yes, how can we help you?" I said that as if natural.. I've been attending to customers in the florist so go figure, my manner of speech has become like this.

"Have ya'.. seen.. a pouch this big?" he gestured with his hands.

"With coins inside?"

"Yes, yes, have you seen it?"

Jennifer-chan's head popped out from the entrance.

"Is this the one?" she asked, waving the pouch.

"Yes! Yes. I'm sorry, it's mine, I dropped it. Can I have it bac' plz?"

Jennifer-chan timidly walked over and passed the pouch back. She kept glancing to and from Nine.

Nine just shrugged.

"Thank you very much.. here as thanks," he passed a silver coin to Jennifer-chan,"I've been worried sick, thank you. Nobody is really honest these days, thank you for returning this."

After that he turned and left. Well.. he made a lot of holes on the ground along the way too.

"Un.. Nine-san?" Jennifer stared at the coin and then back at Nine.

"It's alright, you keep it. He passed it to you."

"Really?"

"Yes, really."

"Thank you!" Jennifer-chan showed a toothy smile.

To be honest, I was wondering if it was a mere coincidence or that it really is the doing of the LUK stats…

"Oh look, another pouch," Nine pointed to the snow.

Looks like it wasn't over..

The second pouch belonged to the mage that was paving the snow on the street, he must have dropped it along the way.. but he was working over at the other side, right? How come his pouch ended up on our side then? I didn't see any footprints of anyone passing by the place we found the pouch besides that adventurer who also lost his pouch so.. did the pouch grow wings and fly or something?

Anyways, I continued to observe how the LUK stats affected Nine and his surroundings.

Miss Margrett managed to send Jennifer-chan to school safe and sound, and upon returning found herself facing the crates of plants she ordered. A merchant she was affiliated with came over to her storefront with a large magic-engine carriage. Doesn't that mean horses are now obsolete?

Nine and I helped Margrett  move the crates into the store.

"Can you help check what's in that box?" Miss Margrett asked. She herself was pulling apart the top part of the crate with a crowbar.

"Okay."

So I opened the lone box in the corner..

What in the..

"It's a wallet?!" Nine shouted.

"Oh my, how is this possible?!" Miss Margrett shouted.

In the box were eucalyptus leaves dotted in white crystal beads.. they probably casted some magic to preserve it. Else it wouldn't make sense to see these plants in such a fresh condition. And on top of all the leaves was a wallet..

"Hey, isn't this that merchant's?"

The merchant already left though..

"So many silver drops.."

Nine and Miss Margrett were of two minds. When I made sense of it all, Miss Margrett was more surprised by the fact that there were so many of this 'silver drops'-- they look like diamond beads in between the part where the leaf and stem meet-- and it's in a sense, it was a rare jewel that grows on these plants. Think of it as opening oysters and finding pearls in every single one of them.

"Should we go ask?"

"Please do."

"You know, maybe we just keep it here. He'll come back when he finds it missing."

"True."

Honestly, I didn't tag the merchant nor did I get to know his name so finding him might be a little difficult.

"In that case, I'll take it for keepsake if that's alright?" Miss Margrett suggested.

Sure enough, in the afternoon the merchant came back asking about the wallet. I swear we returned it without touching any of the gold coins inside yea?

We spent the afternoon practicing more magic, I learned the ways of arranging flowers from Miss Margrett and then kept up with Liliath and Prune. They spent their mornings and afternoons lazing around the bedroom and living room and such-- Liliath was cute.

Afternoon, Nine went to pick up Jennifer-chan from school and along the way picked up another pouch-- and again passed it to its owner. It reached the point where Nine started to not look down at the ground when walking.

Besides the wallet and all.. there wasn't any sort of 'lucky' thing that happened.

Evening, Miss Margrett was just about to close shop when..

"Wait.." Nine said, holding the metal grill open.

"What is it? What is it with money and you today, I find it difficult to believe this to be all but a coincidence?" Margrett said with a worried expression.

"Hehe.." Nine brushed away the little bit of snow on the ground and then picked up a shiny coin.

"That is.. a platinum coin.."

Wow. This is by far the largest sum we've encountered. 100 gold for a platinum right? Appraisal ain't lying.

"Ara.. what should we do about this," Margrett looked troubled.

"Maybe I should return the LUK stats to 10.."

Nine reset his LUK status, and usually someone would've approached us at some point in time to reclaim the money but this time.. nobody came.

There are a lot of theories we could formulate like.. coincidental encounters to increase our connections or maybe if we decided not to return the money we'd get a divine retribution..

But in the end what exactly did the LUK stats do?

In Nine's words, "Maybe it's seeing them smile knowing that everything turned out alright?"

Or in my words, "Maybe it's just an illusion?"

After all, everyone has a different definition of what it means to be lucky.

I guess we shall never know..

Wait no.. just before the owner came, Nine returned his LUK stats to 10 on purpose didn't he?
