Chapter 202: Bleu’s Domain: The Ignored High Elf

Plop. Clink. The sound of coins.

“What in the..”

“We don’t need to worry about money anymore if this keeps up..” Nine said with a sigh.

I get it.. protagonist correction is both amazing and scary but.. this is like a slap to the face to those working their butts off to earn a living.

Just how much did they earn today?

“We divided the reward, Gabriel took 5 gold, Jennifer took 5 and the rest they said they left it to us, about 14 gold,” NIne said, arranging the coins on the table.

“I heard a little bit of it from Liliath, she said it was from a quest from a noble?”

Liliath said something like: we got money and Prune is taking care of the kids that have been saved? I didn’t really get the story until later during dinner when Jennifer-chan went to narrate the entire adventure.
“We tried to find a locket that somehow ended up in one of the refugees' hand. Liliath brought them to the orphanage in exchange for the money.”

“That sounds.. a little cruel.”

We were having the usual end-of-day conversation to tally up the things that happened today.

“So what happened to you then?”

“I got to learn a little more about how the economy of this world works. Miss Margrett brought me to the merchants guild. And I’m surprised there are 9 to 5 jobs. You can work at a post station, logistic centre or some clerk in the more established companies...”

“Isn’t that typical?”

“And you know.. Miss Margrett went to talk to the merchant called Hal and he said I had a father? What’s up with that?”

I tried searching for Dylan on the map, a lot of names showed up but.. none of them was my father. For a moment I actually thought I dragged him into this mess too.

“Prune’s asleep,” Liliath came out of the bedroom and closed the door behind her carefully.

“Is Prune alright? She’s not really herself these days,” Nine asked, concerned.

“Chances are, she’s lonely. I think we need to take proactive steps to interact with her more often, though..” Liliath said and walked over.

“Your tea is here.” 

“Thank you Noel.”
The tea was bought from that merchant guild cafe I went to. Since they sold this package of different tea types, I thought I’d just get some. There are 12 servings a box and the price was 3 silver. I thought it was reasonable-- and a decent souvenir.

“This is nice,” Liliath drank the tea with glee.

“I know right.”

“Noel, about the father thing. Can you explain? It’s a flag isn’t it?”

“Uh, okay. So Miss Margrett went to meet this merchant dealing with the logistics of the flower for the wedding decorations next week correct? So this merchant asked about me and then he muttered something like my father missed me. It wasn’t supposed to be heard but because I’m a demon lord so you know.”
“Father?” Liliath placed down her cup.

“Yeah, I also don’t know what that's about.”

“Your father is Dylan right? There’s a lot of Dylans in the kingdom, I don’t know if any one of them is what he meant.. “

“I checked each of them using Liliath’s Unique skill. I don’t recognize any of them.”

“Okay, just in case, we have to prepare for the next flag then.”

“We do have a flag of our own today wasn’t there?” Liliath said after Nine.

“Oh yeah, we got these invitations for the wedding venue we’re supposed to decorate. The locket found was actually from the little sister of the bride,” Nine took out two letters.

“Okay, wow, they even used perfume on this.”

Seriously.. what a day.

“And it came from inside the butler’s pocket that was kept for who knows how long,” Nine said in a funny tone.

“So the flag leads directly to the wedding scenario. That’s where shit is going to happen..”

“I think so too,” Nine said.

Liliath nodded.

“But then there’s only two invitations? Or maybe I should ask Miss Margrett about it?”

“I believe Jennifer will mention of it soon. She probably forgot about it during dinner.”

You know, maybe Prune should join us like this too.. but she rejected it a few times before when we asked didn’t she? I wonder what we can do about her situation. She’s lonely yet doesn’t really want to come out of her shell.  

“About Prune.. what do we have planned for tomorrow anyways?”

“Tomorrow is a Monday-- dealing with the special quests and then your date with Liliath,” Nine checked the schedule on his UI.

“Okay, so it's just the two of us then.”
“I’ll see what I can do to help Prune,” Nine said.

“She did say during dinner she would visit the orphanage again tomorrow.”

“Then about helping out with the florist..”

“We’ll just talk to Miss Margrett about it.”

She told me that it’s alright to just leave the florist. The fact that we’re keeping someone on watch in the shop was.. at least to her, troubling because it feels as if she’s holding us from our work: adventuring.

“Okay, anything else we’re missing? We’re back to 2000 points now,” Nine said, checking the system shop.

“I don’t think we’re missing anything,” I said.

“I digress. We had forgotten something..” Liliath said otherwise.

We did forget something.. or someone.

Yup. She sent a message but nobody answered.

Now we’re at Bleu’s domain and there she was sulking on the couch.

“He said he would be busy this whole month...” like her soul had gone, she lamented.

“Is there anything wrong with meeting in a month's time?” Prune asked, sipping on her drink.

“I thought elves have a different perception of time?” 

“Look here, one month can greatly change the outcome of Jiwon-san's first wife in the future. Laura-neechan had always been grounded at that spot, but with the Goddess of Fate with him, her position as the first wife is being challenged!” so explained Bleu. 

“So The God of Fate changing fate by her own hands.. that’s funny,” Nine siad.

“It’s serious stuff. How do you feel if I were to be swoon by some other male? Hm?” Bleu asked imposingly.

“Can I not answer that..”

“You.. ! How could you!!“ Bleu twitched.

Was she reading his mind just now? 

“S-shut up! I don’t like him or anything like that,” Bleu stuttered, saying that to me.

“I believe you..”

“I can smell love a mile away--” Liliath clung tighter around my neck. Looks like someone is enthusiastic about tomorrow’s date.

“So unfair..” Laura sighed, her ears drooped.

As for Prune, she smiled wryly. We have to fix that somehow.

“Nine.”

“Yes?”

I dodge the front diagonal sweep to create some distance.

“Just asking..”

Circling around the automata, I hit its flank. That’s win.

“What’s up with you and Bleu?”

“Do you need to ask?! UWAH?!”
“Well, it’s because it’s suspicious? It’s been a week.”

Nine got hit by the automata on his side. He tried to attempt level 3, I just won against one set at level 2.

“I thought you could guess?” He rubbed his shoulder which the automata had just hit.

“You like Bleu don’t you? Just saying but I have no intentions of building a harem.”

“Great, that makes me feel better,” Nine smiled wryly. “Remember the rule I came up with? That I have to like someone as both a male and female?”

“Basically speaking you’re looking at Bleu as both a straight man and lesbian girl?”

“Fuck you, and yes.”

The thought of Nine doing indecent things to Bleu as a girl-- you heard nothing.

“Right.. honestly, I just hope this TALENT of mine isn’t just some temporary thing..”

“What do you mean?”

“Now we’ve fallen in love with people that shouldn't exist, you do know that right?”

“Don’t exist? I don’t get it.”

Oh wait, have I not explained how my TALENT works to Nine? In anycase, I ran through the basic gist of what it meant to be the existence known as Liliath and Bleu. I don’t know what would happen to them once I die.. or if some event in the future caused by my TALENT wipes them out from existence altogether..

Huh, this is the first time this has crossed my mind isn’t it? How Liliath could just suddenly disappear from my life--

“Are you serious? That could happen?” Nine was taken aback.

“I don’t know, let’s just hope something like that.. doesn’t happen.”

“Even if I disappear, my existence would remain inside your heart wouldn’t it?” Liliath pressed her chest on me-- hugged me from behind. Her finger placed over my chest-- my heart.

She heard that.. didn’t she?

“Damn, that’s ridiculous,” Nine sighed. “Doesn’t this also kind of mean we’re falling in love with.. fictional characters?”

“It depends on how you want to see it but to me.. Liliath is Liliath. Whatever it is, she’s the one I love.”

“You being the straight man.. it’s blinding, it's ridiculous ugh..” Nine restarted the automata.

I brought my hands to Liliath’s head and caressed it.

“Sorry.”

“What.. apologizing again..” Liliath flicked my forehead. Like fuck, it hurts.

“Ow..”

“I love you, that’s all that matters..” her words tapered off at the end, as she struggled to speak. 

“Liliath.. just.. just know that if something like that happens… no. Let’s just not think that it would happen. You’ll continue to be by my side, definitely.” I hugged her.

“...” she buried her head in my shoulders.

I couldn’t tell what she was thinking. But If I were suddenly told that my existence is fake and could disappear at any time, especially when I have someone I want to be with..

All it took was a single thought to ruin the mood, a single thought to cause everyone to worry. 

Alas, ‘thought’ is the root of outcome isn’t it? I could think of a million bad things that could never happen or a million good things that could never happen. Neither of which can be predicted.

After all, what I’m thinking now might never come to pass in the future.
