I changed into a dress in preparation for tonight’s event.

The knot that would tie two individuals together in soul-- marriage.

Checking my appearance in the mirror, I pulled my hair behind and clipped it with a butterfly clip.

After which I left the apartment domain.

The mess which I made yesterday night? That was gone.

“Different clothes from yesterday?” Nine, who returned to being a male called out. His body spread lazily across the sofa.

Yes. For tonight’s occasion, I wore a white dress with a corset at the waist. There wasn’t anything too fancy about what I’m wearing.

As for Nine himself, he wore that same coat.

“I don’t feel like going..” Nine frowned.

“Why so?”

“I just don’t want to get into another mess.”

“By mess could you mean the one yesterday night?”
“But it’s unrelated to you and Noel,” when his name was brought up, it pricked me a little.

“Related to what happened in the morning-- the daughter of the viscount?”

Nine looked at me, “I don’t know what I should do.”

“As in?”
“Ah.. nevermind. It’s too complicated to explain anyways.. where’s Noel? I know Prune is with Miss Margrett.”
I shook my head and smiled.

Nine gave me a silent stare-- frown.

“Did something happen?”

“It’ll be fine in a while..” I hoped so. I couldn't help but be mad when I look at him now. I took efforts to keep the promise yet..

“...”

“Nine?” I tilted my head.

“Let’s go prepare. I think it’s almost time.”
Confused by his reaction, I followed him from behind. Before proceeding to the lobby, he came to Jennifer and Gabriel’s room.

They appeared behind the door wearing matching yellow dresses, an awe-inspiring combination.

“It wouldn’t be too far off to call the two of you sisters,” I said.

“You think?” Gabriel replied.

“Our hair colour doesn’t match though,” Jennifer said, adjusting the straps.

“Miss Margrett isn’t here yet?”

“Nope,” Gabriel replied.

“Do you think we should wait for her or.. actually. She’s on the way here. We’ll wait for a while longer,” I assume Nine checked his map to come to such a conclusion.

Together with Prune, Margrett-san returned.

“Where’s Noel?” Prune asked.

“I left him at the park.”

“Huh? Left him?”

I smiled.

“Did something.. happen?”

I said nothing.

“If that’s the case.. is it alright if I ask Noel about it..”

“I don’t mind. There’s nothing that could be done about it anyways,” I sighed.

Prune nodded, and then went off her way. She was most probably going to ask him about it.. not that it mattered.

Margrett-san changed into a loose white dress, colour similar to mine, difference between the design where her’s had emphasis on the contours of her body.

With everyone in formal wear, we finally headed for the lobby-- rather, we headed straight to the plaza. The seats were slowly filled. Noble chatting with wine glasses in hand.

There was food served to be served after the ceremony I suppose-- seeing the neatly arranged buffet-like servings to the conjoined tables.

The sky was graduating into a dark blue, stars twinkled. The reflection of the two moons off the lake, rippling.

“Liliath,” Nine called for my name.
“Yes?”

“When you and Noel argue. What do you feel?”

“Argue? Did we?”

“No? You and Noel didn’t argue?” Nine said with a raised brow.

I don’t think leaving Noel to himself was arguing? Did I say anything against him? Sure, I was mad.

“I don’t believe so..” we took a seat per Margrett-san’s instructions.

“Then? What’s up with you two?”

“A slight conflict.”
“And? What I mean is.. doesn’t that like.. hurt? You don’t feel like conflicts are.. I don’t mean that you and Noel will break apart but don’t you think it’s a problem?”

“Are you implying that the problem lies with me?”

“No. What I mean is, do you not hate the ups and downs? One moment everything is good, the next moment things go awry… “

“Ups and downs?”

“Nevermind,” Nine sighed, focusing his attention on the stage.

I pouted. I couldn’t understand what he was getting at. Ups and downs? Pain? Conflict? These are everyday occurrences aren’t they?

He tried speaking again, “Explained simply. Because you and Noel look at things differently, don’t you fear that risk that you two won’t be able to get along and fall into a loveless engagement.. and as I said. I don’t mean it’s happening but.. don’t you think that way?”

“I don’t believe such a thing would happen any time soon. If such was the case, I would’ve long left him..”
“That’s not it. If you’ve met with married couples.. those in Noel’s world. People start out in love, but in a few years time, the love turns bitter if not properly managed and they divorce.”
“What are you talking about?” Gabriel chided.

“About relationships.. and stuff,” Nine replied.

Bitter love.

Was there such a thing? I had read stories that portrayed such a reality, though I had always thought love existed between the two characters as they always got back together.

I couldn’t understand. Was Nine trying to say Noel and I could fall out of love? How was that possible? Unless Noel decided to wed another demon lord, the possibility of this happening is..

Another demon lord..

‘Ding.’

‘Prune’s Special Quest Completed.’

A roar of cheers and applause erupted. White petals tossed into the air, descending like snowflakes.

The bride in her elegant white wedding gown, a white veil covered her face--

The groom in a dark blue suit, a black tie holding the collar--

From two different directions-- they intersected. Hand in hand, down the aisle to the stage. The groom parted the bride’s veil, revealing her splendor face-- a silly, bashful smile.

“Do you, Sir Hugo Harriot, the groom, take Miss Eryl Ignis as your wife, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death thee apart?” the priest’s words rang.

“I do.”

Do you, Miss Eryl Ignis, the bride, take Sir Hugo Harriot as your husband, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death thee apart?”

“I do.”

“I now solemnly declare you two husband and wife. Let no one put asunder those that have been joined together today in the presence of the grace of Goddess Aphrodite. You may kiss.”

Cheers erupted. Applauses crashed like waves.

I felt my mind turn numb. An unusual feeling of confusion and loss struck me--

Somehow.. I understood.

Before my eyes was but a mere part of what was to become. It did mean a forever prosperous and happy marriage-- said in the words of the priest-- the beginning of both heaven and hell.
