"Oh man, this tastes amazing."

"It's not as good as the one Laura and I made back in Bleu's domain."

"Bleu's domain?"

"A slip of the tongue."

Nine, Prune and Elaine were enjoying a nice meal of barbecue skewers. Scallops, bell pepper-like vegetables, roasted onion rings, wyvern meat, and to top it all off, a drizzle of thick teriyaki sauce. With the juices from the meat overflowing, each bite only made the next more enticing. The three of them took a dozen skewers in one go.

"Hey, aren't you supposed to be with your father," Nine said, her speech muffled as she chewed.

"I've told him about it already."

"Oh, okay. As long as he's alright with it.." wait, "Told him about what exactly?"

"I'm courting someone."

Prune suppressed her laughter. It must be the most anticlimactic joke of the 18th cycle. A daughter of a viscount courting a girl.

"Can I.." Nine wanted to reject her outright but.. thought not to. If she said anything of that sort right now, it would sure turn the currently cheery mood sour. "No, do you seriously not care that I'm a girl?"

Elaine swallowed her portion before speaking, "You were male to begin with. I'm sure there must be some reason you're able to change between the two. I'm fine accepting you in this way."

Nine frowned.

Internally, hearing something like this only made him realize that this was indeed a world of fantasy. Only an insane person would be alright with marrying the same gender– unless they were bisexual.

Elaine was probably the former.

"Should we go meet up with them?" Prune asked.

"I've been wondering, what kind of dress is that Prune-san? It's the first time I'm seeing this."

"This? It's something from.. it's an old design passed down from somewhere. Must be some legendary tailor who made this."

"As if I'd believe such an outrageous lie. An Irregular's words can't be trusted."

Prune shook her head as if to tell her off.

"I'm curious what kind of reaction Liliath's brother would show. It's like the next story development– let's go. We can't miss out on this."

"I was thinking the same."

This meeting would probably be some turning point. The only reason they continued to remain in Erudite kingdom and had not traveled elsewhere was because of this moment.

If Her Highness Siesta never said anything about Kyoshi coming, they would've probably gone off to some faraway land a long time ago.

Actually, scrap that. Nine made a promise to help Jennifer grow into an adventurer. They were tied down by this.. partially. And money– and the lack of knowledge– and laziness..

Basically, there were many other reasons.

"There's an orange marker.. red?!"

Splat.

"AAHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

A streak of red shot up into the sky. A few dozen swords flew and made an arch in the air and–

PZZZZzzzzzzzzzz—-

KASHIK!!

HUUUNNGGG—

A powerful shockwave ran through the entire ballroom, forcing Nine and Prune to cross their hands to resist the blow. It felt as if their organs had been thrown into disarray. Prune held in the urge to puke. Maybe she should've eaten less..

What the fuck was happening?!

For a moment there was a black beam and.. tracing the trajectory, they saw a portion of the balcony gouged out.

"What the.."

From the map, the red marker, together with two other green markers were accelerating away from the kingdom.

And in the ballroom, there was one missing blue dot.

"W-w-wha.." Elaine shuddered.

"Sorry, we have to go.." Nine quickly casted a light heal spell on Elaine before rushing over to the site of incidence with Prune.

The floor was cracked, and in the indent was a thick layer of blood, limb and red pulp organs floating. Liliath and Noel stood there blankly. Blood dripped from their clothes– and their horns..

"R-Rin.." Prune wanted to not believe what she was seeing.

Tears formed in her eyes.

Just now that was..

The swords were still floating in the air.

Liliath slowly turned to gaze at the crowd.

"D-Demon lord!!!"

She took a shivering step forward, and took the main black-red sword into her inventory. The other pure red blades vanished along with it. Then she walked over to the still floating nebula sword and stored that away too.

All the while screams and voices of horror ran amok in the crowd.

Knights rushed in from all entrances. Surrounding the two. Nine and Prune were pushed to the side.

"What the fuck.. the Regressor did this?" Nine muttered.

"Yeah. No way…" I gritted my teeth and collected myself.

I raised my head to meet a field of knights in golden armor.

"Stand down."

"What are you doing here, demon lords?"

I glanced at Liliath. Apparently she had removed his swords from the air.

Right.

We're demon lords huh?

Sid. One of the knights encircling us could not believe what he was seeing.

Of course he wouldn't.

He didn't think that his wife and daughter would be under our care.

"Liliath."

"Kill him. Kill him. KKill HIm..kiIIll HImm. KIlllllllLLL. HImm.."

She was heaving, blood rushed to her head and her skin was seething red. A poisonous amount of mana was radiating into the surroundings.

I hugged her.

"Stop."

"He started it.. I only wanted to protect..  it's only right that he atone for.. so Why.. are you protecting him.. he deserves to die.. die.. he has to die.. he has to die. Die. Die. Die. Die."

"I know.. But.." I held her tighter around my arms.

I couldn't stop the tears from falling.

"Do we really want to end up like him.."

"He killed RIn.. He killed Rin!" Liliath shouted.

I'm not letting her get away.

It hurts. I felt like every bone of my arm was going to break. Her hand clawed into my chest. I could feel it rip my skin.

"Why.. why.. We did nothing wrong so why?!"

Kashik–

"HOLY CROSS!!!"

"SHUT IT YOU HERO!!"

BOOOOMMM!!!!!

A shockwave blew outwards. Liliath's hair blew upwards, revealing her tear reddened face.

"We still.. have a chance.. remember? The revival widget?" I tried to smile.

"Ah.. right.." as if realizing, she snapped and fell onto me like a loose puppet.
