“Will he really report that she drank it?” Looking in the direction the man left, Allan asked with his arms crossed.
“If he says she didn’t drink it, he’ll be more in trouble. He has no choice but to say so.”
“But what if he mentions us?”
“If he tells him that we intervened, they’d think he had exposed the duke’s name. I don’t think he’d put himself on the spot like that.”
“Um, then what does this mean? That someone is resentful against me?” The lady with bluish black hair asked anxiously.
Thanks to Nora’s help in “vomiting the grape juice and ketchup”, the culprit was easily exposed. But she wasn’t informed of the details yet as there was no time.
Knowing that someone was trying to poison you would normally make you scared.
“Oh right. We haven’t explained it properly to Nora.”
“About what?”
“It all happened because Nora and Allan got engaged.”
“You’re saying the House of Duke Enroth altered the name in the submitted documents?”
“This entire fiasco all happened the moment the name in the engagement document was changed.”
Because Nora and Allan got engaged, a sequence of complicated events followed after.
“When I asked at the Royal Castle, they were quite confused but told me I made a mistake. But that definitely wasn’t the case.”
Elias wouldn’t possibly be careless with his engagement papers with Nora. Besides, it would mean that Nora would be engaged to someone else, and that was absolutely unacceptable.
“In the first place, they only examine the documents at the Royal Castle. They never write on them. However, the names in the submitted documents were confirmed to be handwritten. And they weren’t mine.”
“Someone who can easily take out documents at the Royal Castle is frightening.”
“I’m also afraid, Nora. I don’t even want to know this person’s circle of friends.”
“It’s fine. It’s a perfectly normal friendship.”
“That’s what makes it scary.” Allan muttered, as though to reassure that he understood the two frightened individuals.
“The documents were submitted to the Royal Castle by the House of Marquis Callum and were awaiting His Majesty’s approval. It’s unthinkable that a mere official would alter it out of a whim. It goes without saying that it was someone else’s instruction.”
Even if he was instructed to do so, he’d be beheaded if he was found out.
And because he did it, he must have gained some profit out of it or was pressured against his will.
“So it was from the House of Duke Enroth? But why?”
“A while back… there was a marriage proposal.”
“A marriage proposal? To you, Elias?”
I looked to see any reaction from Nora but her face remained the same.

Even though I expected it, I couldn’t help but sigh.
Despite all the time they’ve spent together, he’s still stuck in the friendzone. He enjoyed their time together but Elias wanted her to be more conscious of him.
“Was it perhaps what Allan said, ‘either one is fine’? I thought it was just a drunk talk.”
“What? So you knew about it.”
“If I remember correctly, you’d succeed the title if you accept the marriage proposal. And that’s how Allan became the successor, wasn’t it?”
“That right, and the marriage partner was Viola Enroth, daughter of Duke Enroth.”
*******
“How beautiful, Nora. You look stunning.”
When he opened the door and saw Nora, she looked like a different person.
Her glossy hair was tied up and accented with pearls. It looked classy and gorgeous against her bluish black hair. She wore a dress with a dark blue to black gradient and without excessive embellishments. Her shoes and gloves were also of dark blue color and on her neck was a pearl necklace. The color scheme was rather minimal yet it gave Nora an overall sophisticated look.
Furthermore, her makeup was also different than usual and she looked more attractively feminine.
Gazing at her with glistening eyes as though caught in a trance, Elias couldn’t keep his composure well.
“Women can really be transformed with makeup.” Even the hard-to-please Allan was fascinated.
“I knew Nora would look stunning when all dolled up. Thank you for that wonderful dress, Lord Elias. I feel very satisfied.” Flora expressed with excitement after helping Nora get ready. She also explained to Allan the key points of her hairstyle and makeup.
However, Nora’s face clouded over. “Why do I have to dress up like this?”
Elias thought that Nora’s confused face was also quite cute but stopped himself from telling her out loud.
“In the first place, what is this dress for?”
“It’s the reward for your cooperation.”
“But I don’t need any.”
“I figured you’d say so, hence I chose a blue dress you could use for your part-time job. Isn’t it perfect for the Azure Nightingale?”
“I can only say… what a waste.” Nora let out a sigh, went to Elias’ side and linked arms with him.
Things were moving according to plan but he didn’t expect her to link arms with him.
At the unexpected miscalculated move, Elias broke into a smile.
“This reward will now earn its worth.”
“I’m counting on it.”
He tried to hide his smile and got on the carriage. Their destination was the evening party organized by the House of Duke Enroth.
The time has come for you to pay for all you’ve done.
T/N: It’s payback time! Haha.
