“If you’re thankful, this would be enough.” He said before dropping a kiss on Nora’s forehead.

Nora just blinked dumbfoundedly, unsure whether she felt shy or angry. She was surprised but she couldn’t make sense of what happened.

For now, there wasn’t any sign of refusal or aversion from her so Elias gave her another kiss, this time on the cheeks. She closed her eyes and stiffened her body but there was no further reaction.

“You should say no if you don’t like it, Nora.” He said and kissed the other cheek. Again, her body stiffened.

Perhaps she couldn’t say anything because she was scared, Elias worried. But when he looked at her, there was a troubled look on her face.

He wondered if she didn’t like it.

Regretting that he was too hasty, he suddenly heard her say surprising words.

“It’s not like… I didn’t like it.”

“Huh?”

Elias’ chest was pounding.

She didn’t hate the kiss. That means…

“You mean it’s okay if I kiss you?”

“Of course not.”

Hearing her refusal, Elias’ heart stopped beating.

That’s reasonable. Nora didn’t have feelings for Elias. It wasn’t something that could make her angry, but she would have sure liked him to stop.

Perhaps he should be thankful that he wasn’t slapped right away.

Nora still had that troubled look but Elias had managed to calm his feelings.

“But I didn’t hate it. What did you mean by it?”

“Nothing much.”

He didn’t know what to say. What should he say so as not to make her misunderstand his feelings?

“Can I do it again?” He kissed her forehead again. She didn’t resist so he kissed her cheeks next. He was almost drunk from her sweet scent.

“If you don’t tell me to stop, I’ll just continue kissing you like this.”

“You can’t.”

The moment he saw her hands in front of him, he was immediately pushed away.

Is this what being half-dead feels like?

Feeling slightly sorrowful, Elias heaved a sigh.

“If you don’t like it, you should properly say so. If someone took advantage of you like I did, you’d be in trouble, you know?”

“Like I said, it’s not like I hated it. I feel troubled though.”

Seeing Nora’s serious look, his heart started beating again.

“You don’t hate being touched and kissed by me?”

“That’s… right.”

Oh no. If you say that, I won’t be able to hold myself back.

“Then, will you marry me?”

Hearing him blurt out his real feelings, Nora blinked her eyes dumbfoundedly.

“No, I’d have to refuse.”

Elias dropped his head. His heart had been in utter chaos today. Soon enough it wouldn’t be able to take so much turbulence.

After taking a deep breath, Nora took Elias’ hand and squeezed it.

“Nora?”

With a serious look on her face, Nora nodded as though silently deciding something and looked Elias in the eyes.

“Um, I can’t decide on a marriage or engagement right away.”

“I know.”

It was Elias’ fault for rushing so soon. Nora still wasn’t ready.

“That’s why I said no.”

“Yeah, I know.”

She didn’t have to say no again. Even though he understood, the refusal felt too grave an attack. Because of the lack of strength in his heart, Elias felt drained of energy.

“I don’t hate you but I’m not sure if I like you either. And so, if it’s fine with you, please go out with me.”

“Huh?” Elias stiffened. Without noticing his reaction, Nora continued. “I feel like if we continue to be friends, I wouldn’t be able to figure it out. That’s why I thought it’d be better if we date.”

“Eh?”

Seeing Elias confused and not saying anything, Nora started panicking.

“Of course, there’s that factor of the difference in our status, so if it’s impossible, I’d understand. Also, I’m not saying we’ll date all the time. I know you’re busy so in the meantime…”

“You’ll go out with me?”

“Mm? Yeah, if it’s fine with you and as a trial…”

“You mean as lovers, right?”

“Yes.”

Elias’ heart was about to explode. His heart ached because it was beating faster than lightning. But was there such a thing as blissful agony?

“Nora.” He hugged her and she fit snugly right in his arms.

As Nora became silent, Elias smiled.

What’s with the ‘trial’?

What’s with the ‘I’m not sure if I like you but please go out with me’?

But well, I guess everything’s fine.

Nora didn’t realize it. This trial of being lovers won’t confirm her feelings. It’s a battle of whether Elias could capture her or not.

“In that case, let’s do something that lovers do.”

“Something that lovers do?”

He scooped up Nora’s chin and gently laid a kiss on top of her lips.

“I like you, Nora.” He whispered in her ears with affectionate feelings.

Nora’s cheeks faintly flushed.

“W-Wait a minute.” Nora was somehow caught in a panic.

He wondered if he should hold her hand and go on a relaxing date. Until now, he had been restrained by the shackles of their status as “friends” and the consequence of the engagement cancellation.

But it was Nora herself who tore down those shackles.

“No, I won’t wait.”

The battle had just started. I won’t allow for any setbacks.

Elias smiled and kissed Nora again.

T/N: Aww, they are so cute.
