But gu has also been used in a lot of c-novels too. It’s mostly, if not always, depicted as a type of insect and depending on the novel, the explanation of how to raise gu is different. In general, and in mythology, ‘gu’ is a type of ‘black magic’, I guess, described as a type of poison where several venomous creatures (centipede, spider, snake etc.) are put into a closed container where they devour one another and eventually concentrate all their toxins into the lone survivor. There are some differing versions of the story, including things like what the gu is used for, where it originates etc. but that’s about it in general.
