After the first two matches ended, Lou Mu Yan walked into the array arranged by the referees in the third match.

As soon as she stepped into the array, the scenery in front of her completely changed.

One moment there were scenes of her past in the Immortal Cultivation World; another moment she was in a warm gathering with the relatives of her Lou Clan; and the next, a scene where she was in the pampering and gentle embrace of Ming Xiu, looking at the stars.

The scenes in the array were all joyful and happy things of the past. Lou Mu Yan swept it with her gaze, then shut her eyes—those were all just passing moments, as transient as the fleeting clouds1.

What she wanted to keep weren’t only these—she would try to make the people she cared about happier and more blessed.

The Intermediate-Level Grade 4 Illusion Array was indeed really powerful. If her heart wasn’t firm, she may have been lost in the warmth and happiness of the illusory visions in the array.

Around an incense stick of time later, Lou Mu Yan had an extra golden sword in her hand, and she swung a powerful sword wind towards a corner of the array.

Where the sword wind passed, one only heard cracking sounds and all the scenes in the array fractured and disappeared.

After the scenes disappeared, the array that enveloped Lou Mu Yan also collapsed and disappeared in an instant—the array was broken.

“What, a Grade 4 Illusion Array was broken by her so quickly.” Some pupils in the viewing seat couldn’t help but exclaim.

“Just what’s the origin of this Lou Mu Yan? She used only an incense stick of time in all three matches, isn’t this too exaggerated.”

“Yeah! And not only is she fast, but she also completed each task with perfection.”

“She couldn’t be a Grade 5 Array Master right!”

“Probably not, her cultivation base hasn’t reached Sword Venerable yet.”

“…” The pupils of the various sects whispered and discussed Lou Mu Yan.

In the viewing seat of the Heavenly Secret Palace, the pupils beside Ming Xiu were once again shocked.

At this moment, in their hearts, they were even more certain of Ming Xiu’s discerning eyes. Seeing the Eight Extremes Sect pupil receive all the limelight above their own Sect’s genius who was considered a potential champion, they all felt slightly uncomfortable.

Bai Fei Yao was extremely upset and couldn’t wait to go up and tear Lou Mu Yan’s nonchalant expression and gorgeous face apart.

Then the other pupils in the two groups woke up one after another from the Illusion Array, found the weak points of the array to break though, and among them was Di Shi Tian.

After resting for an hour, the top three of the two groups began the second round.

“I announce the second round of the finals of the array competition.

“There are only two matches in the second round. In the first match, you will need to arrange an Advanced-Level Grade 4 Array, with the time limit being two hours. Those who fail or have run out of time will be eliminated.

“In the second match, the remaining pupils will draw lots to decide their opponents. The battle between the two must be determined by building an array. Other means aren’t allowed, and offenders will be eliminated directly.

“Now, the competition begins.”

Lou Mu Yan walked to her place and glanced at the array to be arranged—an Advanced-Level Grade 4 Mixed-Elemental Killing Array.

She had seen the image arrangement of this array in the Array Pagoda of Enlightenment and had memorised this array by heart, so she picked up the array tools and began to arrange it without any hesitation.

Her hands flowed smoothly and one by one, runes were stamped out, building the outlines of the array, then she finally activated the array flag to operate the array.

Once more, it only took an incense stick of time to complete the match.

Meanwhile those that were in the finals were still using their Elemental Energy runes to build the outline of the array.

“Heavens! Is Lou Mu Yan a normal person. Even a Grade 5 Array Master can’t set up an array this fast right?”

“I think she arranged the array quickly because she’s familiar with the Mixed-Elemental Killing Array. You can see that she started the array without thinking too much.”

“That does seem to be the case. The Eight Extremes Sect is as expected to be a Sect famous for arrays. Their foundation isn’t ordinary.”

“She must have thoroughly researched a lot of Advanced-Level Grade 4 Arrays to be able to have this proficiency.”

One must admit that none of the elite geniuses of the Six Major Sects were stupid and each quickly guessed that Lou Mu Yan was familiar with the Mixed-Elemental Killing Array.

At this time, on the seats of the superiors, except for Headmaster Feng and Huo Ling Long, the faces of the other Headmasters didn’t look quite good, especially the Headmasters of the Heavenly Secret Palace and the Vast Mountain Sect.

The Elder who was in the Array Alliance on the seats of the referees stared at Lou Mu Yan with sparkling eyes, “This girl’s talent in arrays is too strong. I wonder what sort of dog-crap luck the Eight Extremes Sect has to find such a genius.”

“Yeah! It’s just a pity that she’s already joined a Sect, otherwise we must drag her into the Array Alliance right away.” Another Elder sighed.

The chief referee smiled slightly and said: “It seems that the two people from the Heavenly Secret Palace and the Vast Mountain Sect’s talents aren’t bad either. I wonder if this girl can beat them.”

“If there aren’t any accidents, those two are definitely both Grade 5 Array Masters. If the little girl didn’t hide her strength, then she wouldn’t be able to win.” The Elder of the Array Alliance replied.

“I sure am looking forward to her next performance!” There was a gleam in the chief referee’s eyes.

The time limit of the first match arrived and four people entered the finals respectively—Eight Extremes Sect Lou Mu Yan and Di Shi Tian, Heavenly Secret Palace’s Ji Tian2, and Lu Chong from the Vast Mountain Sect.

“Now the second match begins. The two winners will compete for the championship, and the two losers will compete for the third.” The referee announced.

Headmaster Feng saw that both Lou Mu Yan and Di Shi Tian had entered the finals, and the proud smile on his face couldn’t be concealed, which made the Headmasters of the other Sects feel that it was very glaring to the eye.

The pupils of the Eight Extremes Sect who came to participate in the competition kept shouting the names of the two as if they had taken some sort of stimulant.

Although their Eight Extremes Sect was known for their arrays, but no one had entered the finals in the past during the Grand Competitions for three consecutive sessions.

This time, it would be up to Lou Mu Yan and Di Shi Tian whether they’d successfully ‘bury their past humiliation beneath a snowstorm’.

Lou Mu Yan’s opponent was Lu Chong, and Di Shi Tian’s opponent was Ji Tian.

“Junior Sister, your array talent is indeed good, but that’s still not enough.” Lu Chong looked at Lou Mu Yan arrogantly, but his eyes were extremely vigilant.

Lou Mu Yan chuckled, blinked, and asked: “Then what does this Senior Brother think is enough?”

“Haha, your Eight Extremes Sect is just a broken house right now. Junior Sister, if you can set up a Grade 5 Array, you can still compete with me, but if you’re just an Advanced-Level Grade 4 Array Master, then there’s absolutely no need for us to compete.” Lu Chong said arrogantly.

Hearing him brazenly say that the Eight Extremes Sect was just a broken house, both Headmaster Feng and Huo Ling Long’s expressions turned ugly. The Vast Mountain Sect’s Headmaster had a face filled with smiles, obviously very confident with Lu Chong.

“Junior Sister Lou, teach this arrogant pupil a good lesson.” Someone from the Eight Extremes Sect couldn’t resist shouting.

The pupils of the Vast Mountain Sect also shouted, “Senior Brother, don’t show pity and tender care for jade, quickly defeat this woman and let’s see how that broken house can boast now.”

No matter in which one of the six competitions, whoever won the championship, they would soar into the sky. Whether it was for his own reputation or for the Sect, or for the rewards, Lu Chong was determined to defeat Lou Mu Yan in one fell swoop.

The conflict between the Eight Extremes Sect and the Vast Mountain Sect was old and it was practically a dead knot that couldn’t be resolved.

The competition between them at this time wasn’t only a competition for the championship, but also a face-to-face competition.

“Haha, Junior Sister, I can only say sorry to you. The pupils in my Sect told me not to show pity and tender care for jade. Are you ready?” Lu Chong said with a confident look on his face and laughed.

Lou Mu Yan smiled casually, her voice soft and gentle, but her words carried a boundless sense of coldness, “This Senior Brother of the Vast Mountain Sect. I really want to beat you up, what should I do?”

The Vast Mountain Sect pupils were indeed so annoying!

1I could totally be wrong, but as I translated that idiom, ‘过眼云烟’ (guò yǎn yún yān) I remembered something I’ve always been curious about—how do these Chinese authors come up with the names of main characters? Some names are very obvious—some means peerless, some means magnificent, dragon, phoenix etc. befitting of names of a main character. But Lou Mu Yan? Where ‘yan’ means ‘smoke’? (The ‘mu’ is the generational name, that’s why it’s Lou MU Bai, Lou MU Ting, and Lou MU Yan—her father’s generation would have its own generational name, and same with her grandfathers. Not all families have a generational name though. Now, how the author came up with it, idk.) Then this idiom appeared and I’m thinking… could it be? The direct translation is ‘passing the eyes like cloud and smoke’. Which means that things are impermanent, and that everything was of the past—like how Lou Mu Yan came to this world, and everything else is of the past. Honestly though, I could be totally wrong and thinking too deeply XD But maybe not impossible since a lot of Chinese names, particularly for these characters, are taken from Chinese idioms or sayings. Idk about real-life Chinese names.

2this ‘ji’ (姬) is the same as ‘Ji Xuan’ from the Tian’ling Continental Tournament for Hegemony. He was from a superpower kingdom… PAUSE. omg I just went back to take a look and LOL the author had two characters named Ji Xuan HAHA Now I need to go back and see if the author used the same characters for the name or not… ANYWAYS, this ‘Ji Tian’ might be related to the second Ji Xuan, the one that appeared as a participant in the tournament. I suspect they’re related but I don’t know how, if at all. Which reminds me I should really update the character list and events, it’s like more than 200 chapters behind, but I’m so not bothered T~T I think I’ll do it during the long school holidays coming up in December (〜 ̄ △ ̄)〜
