The first day of school after the Summer break had finally arrived. Rinse couldn’t possibly be more excited with the prospect as she combed her hair and got dressed back up into her uniform. It had been too long since was able to enjoy looking like a school girl. More importantly, there was to be a major event coming up that would encapsulate the entire school.
The culture festival. There were going to be so many fun events and attractions that led the girl to wondering what creative ideas were going to be put out in action. She was most excited of all to what her own class was going to think of. This was going to be so much fun, even with all the homework and exams they had it didn’t matter to her.
As per usual during her busy mornings. The girl only had time to grab a piece of bread and spread some jam on the top of it before departing from her house. However, the unusual began the moment she stepped out the door.
“It’s weird to see you just waiting out here.” She greeted Ishi, who was standing in front of the gate to his house next to his cousin, Koto. “Guess you’re just as happy to get back to school as I am.”
“It’s not that.” Koto responded. While the younger boy was excited for his first day as a transfer student, the older one didn’t’ share in the enthusiasm. “We’re waiting for someone.”
“Yeah, and if you don’t want to wait, then you’re free to leave without us.” Ishi would’ve loved nothing more than to be rid of her. However, Rinse was having none of it.
“You can’t get rid of me that easily.” She stood her ground. “The three of us literally have the same route to school. So I’m staying here until you decide to head out.”
“Looks like we’re about to.” He replied, getting up from leaning on the fence. “Good morning Youna.” When she turned herself to what was behind her, Rinse ended up being greeted with the sight of that girl again.
“What?” She was confused, shocked, and even a little upset about this. “But, I’ve never seen either of you walk to school together. When did this happen?”
“Remember that time when I told you my life doesn’t revolve around you?” He repeated the last time he had to explain that to her. Just like last time, it also involved Youna, which led to a few suspicions from Rinse. Though she didn’t make those thoughts public to the other three.
For some reason this was really starting to irritate her. Just what was it about that girl? She had to try so hard just to get him to do something. So why did Youna seem to get all those developments so easily? This was beginning to feel really unfair now.
Still she wasn’t going to let that get her down. As they walked down the street towards the station, she took the chance to talk with him. Despite the presence of new people, it wasn’t much of a challenge to get conversations because of her outgoing presence. After all, speaking to a crowd was no challenge to her, so one person was nothing.
“You looking forward to the cult-”
“No.” He was quick to answer, even though she had yet to finish her question. Ishi was never one to care about major events. Last year wasn’t anything special, and he didn’t assume this one to be any different. Then the boy thought about the girl he was speaking with, and realized that this year was going to be insufferable.
The words of his classmates already echoed in his mind. Since they were the ones to have such a popular girl, there was certainly going to be some sort of fanservice centered around her. Along with it, he’d somehow get wrapped up in due to both his relationship with Rinse. As well as the fact that his teacher seemed bent on getting him to do more things. There was also Youna, who being the class rep, would have some responsibilities to do with the preparations. Then she’d also request some aid from him.
Basically he was going to be involved with all this in some fashion.
Soon enough, they reached the school. Then soon after that, classes began. Already the other students were in a buzz about the festival. For them, this was to be the last one of their high school life. So of course it was going to matter. Ishi scoffed at the idea, since it wasn’t supposed to be everything. Why people would dedicate so much into these three short years was beyond him.
“As everyone here should know.” The teacher spoke as their first break began. “Our culture festival will be beginning very soon.” There were some cheers among the students when he mentioned it. “So I’d like to encourage you all to discuss this so we can get to our preparations as soon as possible.” Since they were all thrid years, there was going to be lost time compared to when they were younger for studying exams. So their free time was going to be spent making up for it. Not that anyone was complaining, as this was too big of an event to not work hard on.
“Great everyone.” There was one person among them all that was most excited for it. So much so that she stood up right in front of class to commandeer attention. It was the girl known as Ryugi, though her real name was something else. Everyone called her by this nickname, Ishi included. So it was what stuck in their minds. Whatever her real name was, faded to time for most except him. “Let’s brainstorm some ideas for our class, okay?”
“This should be fun.” Ishi sarcastically quipped as people spoke up without giving each other a turn. There was the usual that one could expect out of an anime. Like a maid cafe, haunted houses, and of course, a concert with Rinse being at the center of it.

“That all sounds like great ideas.” She said, as she took out a notebook, listing out all the plans.
“It sounds like a lot of terrible ideas to me.” He felt very much differently on it. They were incredible cliches, but that wasn’t his only problem with it. “A cafe? Great, then we’ll just be like anothre dozen classes. A haunted house? Halloween’s coming in a couple of months. Save it for then.”
“Sheesh Hirose.” Ryugi was unhappy to hear him speak up. They all were. “Why do you always have to come in and ruin all the fun.”
“I’m not trying to ruin any fun here.” He countered. While he certainly sounded like the type to rain on people’s parades, that wasn’t what he was trying to do here. “I’m just saying that you’re falling into the common traps of being too eager. If we spent just a little more time putting some thought into it, then you’d find something a lot better.”
“What about a concert with Rinse Hattori?” Someone asked. “You didn’t say anything against that.”
“I figured that I wouldn’t need to mention my disdain over that plan.” He responded. Everyone just assumed that it was because he hated idol’s music and wanted the rest of them to suffer. “Can anyone here think of Risne as a fellow classmate?” What he said caused her ear to perk up to catch his words better. Rinse hadn’t thought about that viewpoint before. All her life people had wanted to hear her sing, even before she became an idol.
He couldn’t have been saying this as an excuse to get her not to do a concert. Even that boy admitted to enjoying her songs. “She’s also here as a student, just like all of us.” Ishi continued to make his point. “Even if she’s an idol, or even if she’s the most popular girl in school. Someone like her still needs to enjoy the festival and she can’t do that if we make something like that.”
“Fine, even though you have a point. What do you suggest we do then?” Indeed, it was one thing to complain about their suggestions. However, he’d have to come up with something if there was to be a debate.
“Let’s see.” He thought out loud in front of all the glares from his fellow classmates. “We need to have both a stand and something done in our classroom.” So that meant they needed to do two things at least. One had to be for the fun of their class, while the other needed to please those outside of class.
“Talent show!” Suddenly, an idea hit them. It didn’t come from him though, as Rinse had come up with a concept of her own.
“Kind of defeats the purpose of my argument, doesn’t it?” He questioned her thought process. The boy already could envision that people would want her to sing as part of it. After all, that was her talent.
“But I’m not going to participate in it.” She answered. “At least, not as a contestant.” Rinse believed that the rest of her classmates could be very talented as well. They just were blind to it because they kept their eyes on her and her job. So what better way to encourage others to join in on the fun, then for her to be the judge of things.
“That’s perfect!” Ryugi and the others joined in heaping a ton of praise onto the girl. Of course he was nearly forgotten about despite being the one that led this suggestion to be brought up.
“That’s Rinse for ya!”
“Yeah, she’s so smart.” They all said.
“It is a good idea.” Ishi admitted. Though it didn’t save him was having to not bring up something to the table as well.
“Well, Hirose?” Ryugi brought the spotlight back onto him, as everyone adjusted their gaze from Rinse to Ishi. “If we’ve got something for our classroom, what about the stand?”
“Don’t worry, I got something.” He finally came up with an idea thanks to Rinse’s suggestion. Talent shows are something that are shown on television. There were other things shown on TV as well, especially one that his parents had gotten really into recently with it dominating their dinner discussions. “A game show.”
