So I caved. I agreed to date Don. He wasn't the worst
person to go out with. Admittedly he was nothing like I expected my first
relationship to be. Regardless, my detention buddy was special in his own way.

"I'm saying you're a bad kisser," my new
boyfriend expressed.

He and I were standing at a window watching soccer
club through the glass while we made out.

"Nothing to be embarrassed about, just stop
trying so hard," Don explained.

He still had a hand holding the side of my face,
ready to pull me back in.

"I'm trying," I said.

"And that's the problem," he laughed until
I finally brushed his hand away and turned my back.

We only had 15 minutes or so left of detention, but
we had already spent more than an hour putting on a show for the other people
in the room. Don told me not to worry about anyone else, but it was hard to
ignore them when I felt embarrassed.
"Look, when you use too much tongue, spit gets everywhere, but the
whole 'peck and go' thing isn't working either," Don continued much to my
displeasure.

He spoke to me like we were alone. I'm sure the four
other people sitting off to our side took note of some of the things Don
said.

"Try to stop thinking," he added while
stepping around me to bring us back to standing face to face.

As he leaned in to kiss me, I let him, but my eyes
remained open. I watched as our audience enjoyed the theater. When Don let go
of me, he said, "That was better," but I felt worse.

After detention was over, everyone left the room. On
my way down the hallway heading for the stairs, Don stopped me.

"So I'm your first everything," He asked,
pushing me up against a wall of lockers.

"You are," I answered while looking around
to make sure no one saw me being manhandled.

With a single hand pressed at my chest, Don kept me from
moving, though I wasn't fighting it.

"Shit, that's a lot of
pressure," he laughed.

That particular moment was probably the oddest we
shared so far, but only because of a single reason. Usually, Don and I didn't
see one another outside of detention. I never saw him during the day in any of
my classes, and I never saw him at night in the boy's building. Our entire
relationship seemed restricted to D19. For him to hang around me well after we
were excused from detention was more than notable.

"You're coming back to my room," he said,
almost ordering me.

"What? Why?"

"You're my boyfriend, aren't you? Let's take our
lesson home," he remarked while leaning in to hold his forehead to
mine.

He was so close I had to look into his eyes. That's
why I stammered when I tried to say, "I thought you wanted to date me to
pass the

time? We're not in detention
anymore."

"You're the one who said that, and I was joking
when I agreed to it. I'm joking when I say most things."

He pressed his entire body against mine, and I shut
my eyes to hold my breath.

"If you want us to be a 14-day thing.." he
started to ask, but I blurted out, "No, no, I'll come with you."

His lips locked with mine, and though I was self-conscious, I enjoyed
the tenderness of being more submissive than usual.
