When Reika was astonished by the beautiful scenery, Soru quietly walked towards the village.

He was looking around, curious about the strange, new world in which he was situated now. He saw the golden wheat fields lying around the village, and he touched some of the ripe stalks of wheat as he walked towards the village. Reika, still savoring the gentle breeze as it passed over her face, noticed that Soru wasn't on her side anymore. She looked around, and she saw Soru heading towards the village. She immediately followed him.

As she passed between the wheat fields, she looked back to the forest. She was astonished at how big the entire forest was. The forest, from left to right, stretched as far as her eyes could see, to the edge of the horizon. Looking back to the village's entrance, she saw Soru talking to someone. She quietly observed him as she walked by.

     ...

Soru noticed there was a person standing near the village's gate as he was heading there. He calmly walked towards the person who guards the village's gate.

"Wa ta shi wa, so ru de su - "

The guard was confused and didn't understand what Soru's words meant.

     "ų̴͇͝?̶̩̂a̸͙̤̓̓o̸̡͓͠è̶͚̺t̴͙͚̐̒g̵͕͝ỉ̷̼̰ ̴̻͐͘n̴̖̓͘a̸̮̥̒a̶̢̙͋̊w̶̦̱͋o̵̓͝ͅb̷̨̤̉̈́ṱ̴̼̇̚ ̷̭͘t̴̮̭̚u̴͔̎y̶̨̦͘h̷̤̰͗̄ļ̷̯͗r̵͈̉̌ȧ̶͔̺k̷̰̀̎ "

Soru remembered that they were in another world and realized that their languages weren't similar, so he turned back and walked away. The guard suddenly raised his rusty sword, pointing towards Soru.

     "h̶̰͖̄̏ý̷͎?̴̫̿ŕ̷ͅȍ̵͙̚u̸̪̝̍ ̶̘͐ǎ̸̫̜e̴̜̅͜ŵ̶͚̫̚o̷̮̫̓"

Soru ignored the guard and continued to walk towards Reika. Reika, who seems confused about Soru's actions, hurriedly runs towards him.

"What did they tell you?" Reika asked, while looking at the guard, still pointing the sword towards them.

     Soru shrugged his shoulders.

     "I don't know. "

Reika looked behind Soru, and she saw that the guard was still there, so she slowly approached the guard. After a while, she stood in front of him. Reika raised both of her arms, creating an X-like sign.

"What are you doing?" Soru told her as he followed Reika.

"I'm trying to communicate with the guard using gestures."

Reika continued her gestures. The guard lowered the sword and scratched his head.

 "We.Are.Lost.We.Came.From.Deep.Forest".

Reika points the direction towards the forest, but the guard is still confused by Reika's actions.

"It's no use." Soru told Reika.

Reika sighed, while the guard was still trying to understand Reika's gestures. Suddenly, a hoarse voice spoke behind the guard.

"Oho, so you speak Japanese. Are you a reincarnated one?"

Reika was shocked by the mysterious voice.

     "H-how did yo- "

Reika noticed an old man behind the guard. The old man was short and shaking, with both of his hands on his back. He was bald, and his eyebrows were colored white. He had a long, white mustache between his nose and mouth. The guard noticed the old man, turned around, and bowed to him.

     "ḏ̸̐ȃ̷̩c̸̭̏g̵̮̀ ̴͕̐ḻ̶̃!̸̨̌ ̴̱̎ḛ̵͒o̴͍̽o̶̹̊ ̷̤̈́ḍ̶̎i̸̝̒f̵̹̍a̵̩͌v̸̛͎é̵̱ǵ̶̦l̸̳̊h̷͈̀y̶̮̓ī̸͎ "

The old man smiled at the guard.

     "ḏ̸̐ȃ̷̩c̸̭̏g̵̮̀ ̴͕̐ḻ̶̃!̸̨̌ ̴̱̎ḛ̵͒ "

The old man glanced at Reika and looked back to the guard.

     "l̶͖̑a̷̫̔t̴̘̽i̶̜̚f̵̼͐a̸̳̓ ̸͍͒'̷̩̿ḷ̸͝ĕ̸̺k̸̼͌h̷̯̓.̸̲̓e̵͘͜ ̷̖̄ŝ̶̩o̵͓͒r̷͔̽ ̴͙͒t̵̩̒i̵̙̋c̴̙̽ "

The guard nodded to the old man and slowly left his post. The old man stood in front of Reika.

"Welcome, guests from afar. I'm the chief of this humble village. "

The old man moved closer to Reika.

"I'll ask again. Are you a reincarnated one? "

Reika, confused about what the old man meant, began to recall her memories. After a while, she remembered that term, which she often heard from her classmates talking about that word.

     "No, we're not." Reika responded.

"What are you then? How did you know Japanese? "

     Reika flinched her eyes.

"S-someone told us that we're outrealmers."

The old man raised his eyebrows.

"Outrealmer? Never heard of that. "

"Then how did you know the Japanese language?" Reika asked.

The old man walked behind Reika, slowly going towards Soru, which was behind her.

"Well, I learned it from my son. When he was small, he kept saying words we couldn't understand. After he turned five, we taught him how to speak and write in our own language. and after a month, he learned it. "

     The old man turned around.

"After a month, he could read and write perfectly. Then, we finally asked him about his strange actions and the unfamiliar language he was using, and he said that he was "reincarnated" from a place called 'Japan'. At first, we thought that it was just a childish joke or a made-up fantasy. But given the fact that he was 'indeed' different, we finally believed him. "

The old man paused for a second, and continued talking.

"Out of curiosity, I asked him to teach me the language he used in his previous life. After 2-3 years, I can write and read the Japanese language."

     Reika asked the old man.

"Where is your son now? Is he here? "

The old man lowered his head and turned around to face her, with a sad expression on his face.

"He is in the kingdom's capital now, doing some minor business."

The old man looked at Soru, who was standing behind Reika, and sighed.

"Young man, your face. It reminds me of my son... "

Soru noticed the old man and turned his head towards him.

"Can you teach us how to speak in your language?" Soru asked.

The old man smiled at Soru. Then he started to walk towards the village.

     "Follow me. "

Reika and Soru followed the old man towards the village.

     ...

As they walked towards the village, Reika noticed some similarities with her homeland, Japan. There are objects, like chopsticks, being used by the villagers. She also saw some women wearing ragged clothes similar to kimono, and other stuff like hairpins, pottery, ect. After a while, the old man stopped. Reika and Soru noticed that the house in front of them was different from the other houses in the village. It was similar to "Minka", a traditional house in Japan. It was not beautiful or well-made, but the architecture was somewhat identical to the minka.

"All of these bizarre objects and architecture were my son's ideas from his former life."

The old man opened the gate and invited Soru and Reika inside. They followed the old man. The old man opened the door and told Soru and Reika to sit on the floor near the low wooden table called "Chabudai".

"Just sit there. I'll prepare some drinks. "

The old man walked towards the hallway that leads to the kitchen, while Soru and Reika sat near the wooden table. Reika looked around, and noticed there was a bookshelf behind Soru. Reika stood up and walked towards the bookshelf. She crouched as she looked for the contents, and found some interesting. It was an improvised book, with a title at the center written in kanji.

"Records of Monster Beasts in the Great Forest of Drys..." Reika spoke as she read the title of the book. After a while, the old man came back, carrying a large wooden plate with a few cups on it. The old man laid the plate on the table.

The old man noticed Reika holding the book. He sat down.

"Oho, you seemed interested in that book. Want to read it first, young lady? "

"Yes. " Reika responded, and flipped the cover of the book.

She saw a note saying, "These records are intended to understand the species in the great forest. Handle with care. " with a sign "Takahako" at the bottom left of the note. Reika flipped the page again.

It revealed simple yet amazing art of what Reika assumed to be the illustrations of monster beasts that reside in the great forest. Reika slowly read the contents. It was detailed. From the description, the appearance of the monster, its known strengths and weaknesses, and its hunting seasons are all described. Reika was amazed.

"Amazing, huh?" The old man spoke up. "My son, Takahako, asked the villagers around him about the appearance and some information about the monsters that reside within the Great Forest Drys. For detailed references, he even sneaks into the forest to see the monsters with his own eyes and draw them. It's a pretty useful book, as it helps the villagers when to enter the forest, to avoid some of the dangerous monsters, or hunt edible monsters. "

As Reika flipped the pages, she saw a familiar-looking monster. She read the description. It was named "Rabid Wolf". She said it was very similar to the wolf-like creatures she had seen before. She flipped the page again and saw a similar illustration of the monster she had seen before too. It has two hind legs and a large pair of wings. She read the text below, and it was called "Wyvern". She also saw a lizard-like creature, which she named "Basilisk", on a page next to the wyvern's information.

She flipped the pages again and again. And she stumbled upon a bizarre illustration of a monster.

Reika observed the illustration carefully. The monster had big claws and large, leathery bat-like wings. They look like giant lizards too, which is similar to the wyvern, but this creature had four legs, whereas the wyvern only had two. It was covered with spines or rough scales. Reika noticed that the old man was standing beside him.

"Oho... The Wildfire Dragon 'Veylir'. My son drew exactly as I saw the dragon with my own eyes many years ago. "

Reika tried to read its description, but she decided to close the book, as she believed that the old man would describe the dragon much more profoundly than the book's information about the dragon. She quietly listened to the old man's words.

"When I was young, I sneaked into the forest due to my utmost curiosity. Somehow I got lost there, without knowing that I had already entered deeper into the woods, and I cried. I walked endlessly without knowing where the path that leads back home is. Until I stumbled upon one of the six calamity dragons, the Wildfire Dragon 'Veylir'. It was so huge, much bigger than the wyvern that my parents told me about. It was a gigantic winged creature, a serpent-like one, with a crested head and enormous claws. Its large, bulky scales are maroon in color, like the color of a crimson flame and the wood merged into one. "

The old man sighed as he sipped his cup and continued talking.

"I remember my mother told me that the dragon Veylir was the guardian of the forest, and according to her great grandmother, the dragon once burned a portion of the great forest due to its hunger. Part of the forest turned into a sea of flames, burning everything within the area. Every creature and plant didn't survive as the fiery flames consumed their bodies and lives. Luckily, the dragon didn't notice me at that time, but my mother told me that the dragon's senses are sharper than those of an average monster, so I believed that I was too small to be considered a threat, or that the dragon wasn't hungry, so I was spared. I even saw the dragon headed towards its den, near the top of the Fiur Mountain. My father soon found me as I tried to walk back home. He was extremely angry at me, and I got a good beating afterwards. "

The old man drank from his cup again and emptied it. He placed the cup on the table.

"My mother also told me that there are another five dragons out there. I don't know the details of their appearances, because neither my mother nor my great-great grandmother saw the others, only the Wildfire Dragon. I wanted to see the other dragons in my lifetime, but due to my old age, I'll just bury that wishful thinking on my grave... "

Reika quietly sat near to the old man while facing Soru. Reika saw that Soru was quietly staring at the old man. Suddenly, Reika heard a loud scream outside the old man's house.

     "Run! "

     "AAAAAHHHH! "

The old man was surprised and immediately ran out the door along with Reika and Soru. What they saw was truly terrifying.

"It's the Guardian of the Great Forest Drys, 'Veylir'!"
