Chapter 78.1 – Just Like My Own
After the Shangsi Festival, the days returned to calm again. After sobering up, Lu Qipei still remembered what she previously promised. After coming back home from the office everyday, she would either brew wine or work on paper kites. She was busy for a long time.
When she was younger, Lu Qipei’s life was actually quite relaxed. Although she had to study and practice martial arts with Lu Qicheng everyday, she was very talented. Learning those did not consume all her energy.
So when she had free time, she would learn other things to pass time. This was the case with making incense and wine. It was also the same with paper kites, but she had not made any of them for quite a few years.
Qi Yang was also in a leisurely mood and didn’t stop Lu Qipei getting busy, and always accompanied her instead. She had been helping Lu Qipei make wine, but she couldn’t help her make paper kites, so she only held her chin and watched.
Around three to five days later, Lu Qipei had buried several jars of peach blossom wine on the mansion’s peach blossom forest, and the paper kites she handmade herself finally soared to the sky.
The day the paper kite was ready, Qi Yang took advantage of the fine weather and couldn’t wait pulling Lu Qipei to the mansion’s back garden. Of course, it wasn’t as fun as flying the paper kites in the outskirts, but it was still a long time until the next rest day, and they didn’t have the time to go to the outskirts again.
Fortunately, Lu Qipei did a good job with the kite, and taking advantage of the wind, it managed to fly without the holder having to run much.
The kite flew leisurely in the sky, as Qi Yang pulled the strong silk thread in her head. From time to time, she gave it a few tugs, causing the kite to go up and down in the sky.
She wasn’t actually very good at flying the kite, and it was Lu Qipei who gave her the coil after getting it to fly in advance.
After a while, the kite flew lower and lower, as if it was about to fall.
Qi Yang quickly gave if a few tugs, but she failed to save if from falling, so she rushed to ask for help, “Ah Pei, hurry, it’s going to fall!”
Lu Qipei immediately stepped forward to take over. She grasped the coil in Qi Yang’s hand, quickly held the thread, and quickly gave it a few tugs while perusing the wind.
There wasn’t anything special that could be seen from her movements, as if they were just a few light pulls, but the kite that was falling sideways from the sky seemed to come alive again. It began flying up again, then continued flying even higher than before.
Qi Yang looked at Lu Qipei and the kite with bright eyes. When Lu Qipei handed the coil back to Qi Yang, she tiptoed and planted a kiss on the corner of Lu Qipei’s lips, smiling, “Ah Pei is really amazing.”
Seeing this, the maids watching the scene from the side hung their heads down and pretended to not see anything.
But Lu Qipei had already become accustomed to this kind of intimacy, especially in her own house, and wasn’t as shy as she used to. Even now, she could cheekily walk up to Qi Yang and say, “Is this a reward? Then I want another one.”

Qi Yang was smiling, but she just turned around to look at the kite in the sky and said, “No more.”
Lu Qipei didn’t mind, and the smile on her lips didn’t change. All she did was raise her head to look at the kite again. Sure enough, she received another request for help from Qi Yang after a while, and after solving it smoothly, she got another kiss like she wanted.
Qi Yang wasn’t in a hurry to take over from her again this time. She pulled Lu Qipei’s sleeves and said, “Teach me.”
Lu Qipei’s eyes turned soft, and she simply said ‘alright’. Immediately, she held Qi Yang in her arms, holding the coil in one hand and Qi Yang’s hand in the other, pulling on the silk thread. Everytime she pulled on the line, she taught her the strength and angle, as if she was teaching a child how to hold a pen.
Qi Yang was a good student, and she mastered the technique to fly kites in less than 10 minutes. But she didn’t say anything, and Lu Qipei pretended to not notice, so the two of them tacitly kept their posture. It’s just that sometimes the kite couldn’t be saved just by pulling on the thread, and they had to run a couple steps with the coil, so the two would be separated just a little…
The atmosphere was just right, and laughter could be heard coming from the garden from time to time.
Maybe she was attracted by the laughter, or maybe she saw the kite in the sky, Lu Sheng appeared in front of them again.
She was still that small fluffy ball, white and lovely, and her clothes were clean and neat. But there was still no one following her. The little girl was running around in the princess’s mansion, making people feel a little worried.
Qi Yang frowned and finally asked Zhi Ting, “Why is she always running around alone?”
Zhi Ting hung her head, glanced towards Lu Qipei’s direction, then hesitated and replied, “Well, when Miss Lu came here, she was alone. Your Highness and your prince consort didn’t make any arrangements, and the maids don’t dare to overstep their bounds…”
In fact, looking at Lu Sheng, Zhi Ting was the one whose heart felt the most complicated aside from Lu Qipei and Qi Yang. She had watched the princess get acquainted with her prince consort, and also watched as their relationship grew deeper.
Over the past three years, she was often in envy of their relationship, and was also happy to witness such a happy marriage. But unfortunately, everything abruptly stopped after Lu Sheng’s appearance.
Lu Sheng and Lu Qipei looked so much alike. Rather than a niece, it would be more convincing to say that she’s her illegitimate daughter. Not to mention Lu Qipei’s brother died young, and now there’s no proof of his death. Other people would always grow suspicious when they talk about this.
Zhi Ting really wanted to trust Lu Qipei, but she still had doubts in her heart. Moreover, she didn’t know the princess’s attitude towards this. If Her Highness was also suspicious about it, as people from the princess’s mansion, how could they act politely towards the prince consort’s “illegitimate daughter”?
In short, after Lu Sheng came to the princess’s mansion, she was still the poor little girl that nobody cared about.
How could Qi Yang not hear the excuse and implication behind Zhi Ting’s words? Her eyebrows frowned, and her originally good mood slowly dissipated. Instead of blaming Zhi Ting, she just looked at Lu Sheng’s eyes as her gaze grew more and more complicated.
