I believe it’s the 3rd day of my new school life and so far, things have been relatively normal apart from a few situations that I wouldn’t reflect on. The time flew by rather quickly and lunch time is soon upon us.
The majority of students were out of the classroom and on their own personal missions.
The only students here aside from me are Tachibana, a girl who is quiet as a mouse and Hisoka who is currently sleeping at his desk.
I would go out on a limb and say that the rest of my classmates were either in the school's cafeteria or just hanging out with their already established friend groups from the previous term.
Tachibana bought lunch in advance to avoid the rush of people, which I admit was a smart idea, one that I probably should have thought of.
That makes me wonder, what was the point of her supermarket shopping if she is just going to purchase lunch.
I felt a bit hungry, and going to the cafeteria is going to be awkward because after I get something there, I’ll have to sit and eat alone considering the fact that I’m yet to officially merge myself into someone else’s group. I’ve been doing that for a couple of years now, so it’s nothing new or reputation ruining.
The main reason why I didn’t bring any of my home cooked meals is the fact that during the cooking process, it was burnt. Yes and I’m not ashamed to admit that, I burned my lunch so it’s back to purchasing meals.
Before I can come to a definitive decision, my stomach did it for me and let out a growl that alerted everyone to my predicament.
It almost sounded like a dog that ran across another animal it perceives as a threat.
"Are you fasting or something?" Tachibana asked as she heard the growl.
No. I am just too lazy to get up and stand in a line so I rather stave. That’s a completely sane reason right?
"There’s no reason to be fasting right now, anymore abstaining from food and I will probably fade out of existence consider that I’m already skinny.”
“Fading out of existence doesn’t seem like a bad way to go, so will you do that for me Kaneko-kun?”
“Is that your friendly way of telling me to get lost?”
“It was possibly a joke.”
“Don’t all jokes have a hint of truth to them Tachibana-san?”
“Only if you read too deeply into them so take it however you choose to.”
“What if I choose to just sit here during the entirety of lunch and meditate?”
That can be a viable opinion for me.
She wrapped up what was left of her sandwich and replied, "So you're willingly starving yourself to achieve a hypothetical higher state? You just keep getting stranger and stranger."
Letting out a sigh, I got up from my desk. I refused to be called strange by this person. Scanning the classroom, I noticed that the quiet girl made her own lunch. Slight jealousy began to fill my heart.
As I walked toward the classroom's door. I observed her and I think she is ridiculously cute, she looks like one of those girls who prefer to skip parties just to stay home and watch movies.
She slowly picked at her food and instantly froze up when I noticed her. It appears she is one of those individuals who can't eat while other people are watching them.
Now exiting the classroom, I headed in the direction of the campus food court.
Aside from the school cafeteria, there were several food spots where the students could rotate their meal choices.
While still in the main building of the school, I noticed one of my new classmates Imoto Shiba speaking to a few girls from different classes. He is your typical ikeman so girls tend to flock around him.
It's not strange to make friends in different classes, even though we are pitied against each other at times, eventually, I am sure I’ll end up befriending other individuals.
Finally, out of the building and into the food court, the area is packed with students.
I looked at my options and tried to play a mental game of what would I rather eat but still couldn't settle on something. The only option would try the convenience store, it was my last option and I prefer to use that instead of having a lengthy battle deciding which should be my first one.
Also it’s my first time in there.
I approached the automatic doors of the convenience store as they opened.
The inside wasn't as crowded as I assumed it would be. There were a handful of students in there. I guess the actual food spots are fulfilling all the students’ food needs.
Now fully inside the store I walked past the different shelves. How about a sandwich and a drink? That would be the cheapest and quickest option right now.
After coming to a decision I grabbed a random sandwich and a bottle of juice, and then made my way to the register.
However, I should get some sliced bread and start to prepare sandwiches at least. So that would keep me from having to walk around aimlessly at lunch time.
I held my smart watch next to the contactless scanner and there is a faint beep then a notification appeared on the screen.
Now leaving the store, I looked for the best place to sit and enjoy my meal. Going back to the classroom is an option however outside does feel pretty nice at the moment.
Not after too long, I came across a school bench in the shade and took a seat. It was quite peaceful, due to the green scenery and the refreshing breeze. It almost felt as if I was having a solo picnic. I would say it’s been a while since I had some peace, so hopefully, it lasts a bit longer.
As I thought those words, I heard a cute familiar voice say, "Kaneko-kun?"
I turned in the direction of the sound and noticed that it was Fukami.
Still I would continuously describe Fukami Chisora as someone I find attractive and with a positive aura about her. Honestly, this is someone a person will easily trust.
However, trust is earned, not given. I would hate for a pretty face to be my downfall in life.

What caught me by surprised was the fact she’s alone, because other students would usually surround her because she’s considered a popular person.
So with that being said even the most social people need a break at times after all.
Fukami asked if she could sit next to me, to which I nodded my head.
She then followed up with, "How are you enjoying the school, Kaneko-kun?"
I haven’t really thought about how I felt about the institute as yet.
"It’s somewhat relaxing; I think I may enjoy it."
Her curiosity seemed mildly piqued due to my answer, and she immediately asked, "You may enjoy it? Isn't high school supposed to be one of the most exciting times in a person’s life?"
High school is considered a lot of people's "golden years," considering that they didn’t have any responsibility back then apart from getting an education.
"If I am being honest, it depends on the person. I don’t have lofty expectations because you may just end up disappointed in the results."
She turned towards me and confidently said, "Hopefully we all enjoy a thrilling high school experience together so we can have stories to look back on in the future."
Fukami is a bit too much sunshine for me at times.
"Stories of dread and stories of excitement can both invoke the same level of emotional intensity once told correctly." I replied while undoing the plastic wrap of my sandwich.
"Are you planning to have dreadful stories, Kaneko-kun?"
"I don’t think one plans that; it’s just something that just tends to happen."
"You’re quite strange," was offered as a reply by Fukami.
This is the second time; I’ve been called strange for the day.
"Thanks?"
She laughed and said, "Don’t misunderstand me; I do think strange is better than normal."
"If you think that way, then you must be strange as well."
"Isn’t everyone strange in their own little way? It would be boring if the entirety of the human race all acted the same."
"You’re correct on that; it would be dreadfully boring if we all acted the same, we would have to classify ourselves as robots instead of actual people."
Some students walked right by us as Fukami stretched just a bit.
"Then let’s all be strange together, Kaneko-kun." She said to me, in the manner of an elementary girl asking another person to be friends.
After Fukami said that, I couldn’t do anything else but chuckle a bit before biting into my sandwich.
Looking out into the flow of students walking by, I noticed Imoto Shiba walking with a girl from our class. That sight alone makes me wonder, should one man have all that power?
Hearing Fukami’s cute voice snapped me back to reality once again.
“Oh yes before it slips my mind, we should exchange contact information.”
I choked on my sandwich upon hearing that because I didn’t see any reason why it would even be an option.
Fukami gently patted me on my back and asked, “Are you alright?”
In a tone of voice that conveyed embarrassment, I uttered out “Ye-s.”
The afternoon wind blew and her ginger colored hair danced in the breeze, the same wonderful scent of watermelons filled my nasal cavity.
“Yes to what? Yes to you being willing to exchange contact information with me or yes to you being alright?”
I exhaled out my mouth and replied, “Yes to both.”
Her eyes sparkled as she heard those words.
“Alright so, our student ID’s are used as cell phone numbers. Once you input someone’s ID number into your contacts, their email address will be automatically added as well. So just turn on the share contact information option or I can do it.”
I already memorized my student ID number, so that airdrop-esque method really isn’t needed.
“Either way is fine.”
Fukami fiddled with her watch and a few seconds later, I got a notification on mine.
I selected yes and then checked the contacts application.
Contacts Listing
I just got a pretty girl’s number; all my male ancestors are probably doing back-flips right now while giving each other fist bumps and high fives, while my guardian angel/spirit does a shimmy shake.
