Finale

The seasons rolled around, and by early summer, her father’s mourning was completely over.

It was the long-awaited wedding parade.

On that day, the capital of Pastore was lined with a procession of carriages decorated with flowers, parading along the main boulevard with orchestras and dancers.

As Lucrezia was making final adjustments to her veil and makeup at the mansion, the bouncy voice of a pretty girl burst in.

“Sister…! Look at you!”

It was her younger sister, Rosa.

In a graceful dress, she quickly bowed.

“Well, you look wonderful. You look so different.”

“I’ve been training hard!”

Rosa was proud of herself.

Ever since that time, Rosa had been obedient to Lucrezia’s advice, and after having a tutor, her manners had improved.

Now, she was a lady who was no longer ashamed to show it anywhere.

“Thank you so much, sister, for getting this dress back to me!”

The dress embroidered with rosebuds was once made by Rosa, but it seems that she gave it away without ever wearing it because of the return of her title.

It was being sold as second-hand clothing, and Rosa found it by chance, so Lucrezia bought it back for her.

Since then, Rosa had been even better than before.

Lucrezia thought that even if she had ulterior motives, she was now able to put on a facade, which was good enough for her.

“Sister’s outfit is also very nice!”

Lucrezia returned a wry smile to Rosa, who seemed to be saying that she was the best. She still needed more training in this area.

Lucrezia, accompanied by Rosa, climbed into one of the largest convertible-style carriages.

Ramilio was riding next to her.

Lucrezia feigned indifference, but inwardly she couldn’t keep her composure.

‘I’m in trouble… Ramilio-sama in his ceremonial clothing is really cool.’

Since Ramilio was reluctant, Lucrezia chose most of the outfits, and she had seen them so many times that she even remembered the patterns. Nevertheless, it was also exceptional to see him wearing it.

Just being next to each other made her feel excited and nervous.

When she glanced sideways to check on him, he smiled back at her so softly that Lucrezia’s cheeks turned red at once.

Lucrezia was fidgety and restless the entire time they circled the capital.

‘I can’t believe that such a wonderful man is going to be my husband!’

She blushed again when he took her hand as they disembarked from the carriage at the end of the tour.

Why was she so embarrassed by the mere act of being touched by a hand?

Lucrezia’s mind went blank and she barely remembered what happened next.

She found herself being urged by the large crowd to exchange vows.

“Lucrezia.”

She quickly looked up at Ramilio by her side, suppressing her pounding heart by the sweet way he called her name in a whisper.

“Are you nervous?”

Lucrezia almost screamed at the teasing whisper. She didn’t know they were this close. What was she supposed to do next?

Lucrezia, so stiff that she had blown everything out of her head, squeezed Ramilio’s hand as if to hold on to it.

At the unplanned movement, Ramilio stifled a laugh for a moment.

“Okay, I understand. Stay still. Just leave it to me and let me do the work. Okay?”

“Y-yes.”

She nodded her head, and Ramilio pulled Lucrezia into a hug and kissed her lightly as if touching her with a feather.

She looked at him from a little distance and their eyes met.

Seeing his loving gaze, Lucrezia was deeply moved, thinking, “Oh, I’m married to this man.”

Lucrezia and Ramilio were then paraded through the territory, where they were congratulated by more people than they could count.

The parade lasted for days, with plenty of food and drink from the Duke of Pastore everywhere, which kept people entertained for a long time.

Ramilio’s fame as a lord grew, and he and Lucrezia would be praised as wise rulers for many years to come.

***

Five years later.

Lucrezia and Ramilio were as close as ever, and their second child was growing up nicely.

Furthermore, in the same year, the diary written by Lucrezia happened to catch the attention of a playwright, and it was decided to be published as an opera.

“Six Broken Engagements, the Ugly Duke’s Seventh Miracle.”

This title didn’t sit well with Lucrezia.

She had hoped to one day erased the name of “Ugly Duke” from the country altogether.

So, she tweaked the title a little bit.

“The Suffering and Miracles of Duke Ramilio Pastore, Who Regained His True Appearance.”
