Chapter 171 - "Can you tell what this is then?" (3)
Suddenly, there was knocking on the door.
“I think that your, ugh, Mr. Lu mentioned earlier that he was having someone bring over your birthday gift. Let me go see.” Having said that Su Ran went over to get the door.
“Hi.” Su Ran felt that the man standing outside the door in a suit looked familiar.
“Su, ut, Ms. Su. Sorry to disturb you at this hour. My name is Zhou Fu and I am here to deliver my boss’s birthday gift to the little young master,” said Zhou Fu as he studied Su Ran standing in front of him.
Other than the quick glance at the hotel over 10 years ago, this was Zhou Fu’s first time meeting Su Ran in person outside of the reports on her.
The second that he laid eyes on Su Ran, Zhou Fu finally understood why his boss questioned the Lu’s earlier investigation.
The young mother standing in front of him was, indeed, very different than what he had read in the reports.
This Su Ran gave people a very good feel and it also looked like she had a fairly good mother-son relationship with the little young master.
Zhou Fu took a quick glance inside the apartment and could see Su Han looking at him, alarmed.
Haha. The little young master was exactly how he was like in the reports. His personality was very similar to that of his employer.
“Oh, right. This is the gift that my boss had prepared for the little young master.” Having said that, Zhou Fu carefully handed a low-key but delicate little long box over to Su Ran.
“Oh. Thank you so much. And thank Mr. Lu for us as well,” said Su Ran with a smile.
“You are welcome. It’s nothing.” Zhou Fu nodded and pulled out another box from his pocket. “This is a little something from me to the little young master. I hope he won’t mind.”
That surprised Su Ran a little.
“Ugh, you shouldn’t have.”
“I have been with my boss for almost 20 years. I should give the little young master a gift on his birthday. I hope that is okay with you, Ms. Su.” Zhou Fu explained himself.
“Oh, haha. Of course not. Well, thank you then.” She turned, saw the Su Han with his “uncooperative” look, gave a resigned smile, and thanked Zhou Fu.
“Um, would you like to join us for some cake?” asked Su Ran after giving it a little thought.

“Thank you for your invitation, Ms. Su, but I shan’t impose on you and the young master’s birthday celebration,” said Zhou Fu, knowing what was best.
And, how could he not? If he didn’t leave soon, the little young master could probably burn a hole on his with his look alone.
“Alright then. Please thank Mr. Lu for us.”
“Of course. I shall.”
After seeing Zhou Fu off, Su Ran turned back around and saw that Su Han had already pulled the candles off the cake and was about to sink the knife into it.
“Wait, Su Han, don’t cut into it just yet!”
Su Ran was going to stop Su Han but it was too little too late. As soon as she finished saying that, Su Han had already brought the knife down onto the cake sitting on the plate.
The cake was sliced into two halves.
One could see the cross section of the thick layer of icing along with the large, white steam bun on the inside.
Su Ran: Ha, haha….
She had planned to make a cake originally but they didn’t have an oven. Then she tried the method of using the rice cooker that she had found online. The burnt egg and flour paste was still caked on the side of the rice cooker at the moment.
Possibly not wanting Su Ran to feel even more embarrassed, Su Han tried his best to not let the complicated look appear on him.
Ahem. It was this woman’s first attempt to make a cake. This was not an unreasonable outcome. In fact, this was already quite good.
Su Han quietly moved the plate in front of himself and was about to start on it.
“Em, I don’t think you should eat that.” Su Ran stopped Su Han and explained herself. “This cake, ahem, was mostly for show. Its purpose was for you to make your wish. It had served its purpose, so we should move onto the main dishes.”
“It’s still edible,” said Su Han firmly.
“Ugh. Well, truth is, I don’t want you to get an upset stomach. We will be going to the Quality Development Outing tomorrow. You don’t want to an upset stomach on our way there.”
Su Ran’s reasoning had finally stopped Su Han.
