Chapter 38 Refuting Rumors

Fan Kun took a closer look and saw that Lu Heng was holding the results of his physical examination.

The capital letter C at the top was the result of Lu Heng’s physical fitness test.

“Lu Heng, you actually got a C in the physical fitness test?!” Fan Kun was shocked, and quickly followed up, “Lu Heng, what are your other two grades?”

“D and E.”

As Lu Heng spoke, he showed Fan Kun the two other grades at the back.

Fan Kun’s surprise and admiration did not diminish after reading the form. There was even a hint of envy on his face.

“Lu Heng, I’ve been training for three years, yet I only got a CCD. You’ve only been training for two months, yet you managed a CDE? In that case, won’t you be able to surpass me pretty soon?”

Lu Heng said, “Didn’t I tell you last time that the school inaccurately measured my level of talent back then?”

Fan Kun thought for a moment and then nodded. “I guess that’s the truth then. That has to be the reason behind your rapid improvement.”

After saying that, Fan Kun touched his chin. He then looked at the knife in Lu Heng’s hand and said, “Lu Heng, I heard from Big Mouth Jia that you already have a saber-carrying

permit?”

“Yes,” Lu Heng said affirmatively

“No wonder you had a saber with you when you arrived at the dojo earlier.” Fan Kun nodded slowly.

Lu Heng asked, “What nonsense is Big Mouth Jia spewing about me again?”

Fan Kun had hurriedly sought him out to talk about Big Mouth Jia. Big Mouth Jia had obviously been spreading more rumors about him. This was easy enough to deduce.

Fan Kun looked around and said, “Big Mouth Jia said that Grandmaster Liu’s daughter helped you pull some strings, which forced Instructor Wu to vouch for you so that you could get that saber.”

“It seems like this kid’s only purpose in life is to spread rumors.”

Lu Heng frowned.

He was very unhappy with Big Mouth Jia, but there was no good way to shut him up.

There was no point talking to him, and he could not fight him either. After all, given his current level of strength, he was still no match for Big Mouth Jia.

“Lu Heng, it’s okay,” Fan Kun comforted him. “With your current progress, you will soon prove him wrong. When that time comes, no matter how much nonsense he spouts, no one will believe him.”

“Actually, not many people believe him now. The kid is always bragging. Thanks to his constant nonsense, his reputation has long been tarnished.”

As Fan Kun spoke, he patted Lu Heng on the shoulder.

Lu Heng frowned, then said, “Fan Kun, I have to go first. I’ll see you around later.”

He still had to look for Liu Shiyao to borrow those books, so he was short on time.

“Okay, see you later.”

Fan Kun also turned and left, walking toward the training room.

He was assigned to the same training hall as Big Mouth Jia, who had come to the dojo to practice martial arts after graduating from junior high school.

A moment later, Fan Kun arrived at the door of the training hall.

However, he heard Big Mouth Jia’s loudvoice even before he entered the hall. The kid was shouting non-stop again.

He peered inside and saw Big Mouth Jia surrounded by a group of people, talking excitedly.

The fate of those inside this training hall was pretty much sealed. They would be forced to serve in the military after the new year, so they did not bother training properly.

“You all saw it, right? Ah, you all saw it,

right?”

Big Mouth Jia said to the crowd with a red face, “Would I lie to you all for no reason?”

Yesterday, he told the others that Lu Heng had taken advantage of Grandmaster Liu’s daughter and, through her connections, he had obtained a saber of his own. In the end though, most people did not believe him.

Due to that, he had dragged a few people to wait with him at the entrance of the dojo early in the morning. They waited there for Lu Heng to arrive with his saber and, sure enough, Lu Heng really arrived with a saber.

Therefore, now that there was evidence of his words, he began to show off.

After all, most of his bragging and lies had been exposed by others, so now that he finally had proof that pointed to the legitimacy of his words, he was elated.

“I’ve been saying it all along. When Lu Heng was in high school, he hooked up with Grandmaster Liu’s daughter…”

Big Mouth Jia spoke about Lu Heng and Liu Shiyao again with a solemn expression on his face, as if he had witnessed everything with his own eyes.

After he finished speaking, someone immediately asked with a smile, “Big Mouth Jia, then tell me, why did Lu Heng drop out of school to earn a living on a farm in the outer city despite having such a powerful backer?”

“Hahaha, that’s right. Shouldn’t he be eating fish and meat every day instead? Why would he risk his life for two measly food stamps?”

Everyone did not believe the ridiculous plotline that Big Mouth Jia had concocted.

This was primarily because many of the people in this training hall were in the same cohort as Big Mouth Jia in junior high school. They knew Big Mouth Jia’s character very well as well as what kind of character he was.

“It’s a secret relationship, so it can’t be exposed.”

Big Mouth Jia saw that everyone was laughing at him, so he immediately tried to make up more ‘facts’ to support his story.

“If their relationship is exposed, Grandmaster Liu will immediately skin Lu Heng alive!”

“It’s precisely because of this that Lu Heng can only bear with it silently.”

As soon as Big Mouth Jia finished speaking, someone immediately ridiculed him, “Big Mouth Jia, you said it yourself. If it’s a secret relationship, then how can Grandmaster Liu’s daughter force the dojo to allow Lu Heng to carry a saber? Aren’t you contradicting yourself?”

“This is because…”

Big Mouth Jia’s brain spun rapidly, and he tried his best to make things right.

However, before he could find a reasonable explanation, Fan Kun strode over and said, “Big Mouth Jia, stop making things up. I just met Lu Heng.”

When everyone heard that, they all turned to look at him and said, “Fan Kun, does Lu Heng really have a saber-carrying permit?”

“Yes.” Fan Kun nodded his head with certainty.

“F*ck, this fellow Lu Heng has only been here for two months and he already has a saber-carrying permit. I’ve been training here for three years and haven’t even touched a saber.”

“Sigh, I even said that Lu Heng was the same as us since he didn’t make it to the end of high school. He might have studied for nothing but, in the end, we’re still not as good as him.”

“Ah, it’s so ridiculous!”

Everyone sighed. Envy was written all over their faces.

Big Mouth Jia saw this and took the opportunity to speak up, “I already told you guys that Lu Heng’s situation was abnormal. He definitely took advantage of Grandmaster Liu’s daughter, yet you guys still won’t believe me.”

“Alright, alright.” Fan Kun stopped him and said, “Big Mouth Jia, I haven’t finished speaking yet.”

“What else do you have to say?”

“Hurry up and say it,” the crowd urged.

Fan Kun glanced at the crowd and said, “Lu Heng just completed his physical examination today. His test results are C, D, and E respectively. His physical fitness score is C, his reaction score is D, and his adaptability score is E.”

“What?!”

Everyone was shocked.

They knew very well what Fan Kun’s words meant. It meant that Lu Heng’s improvement speed far surpassed that of everyone present

here.

If he continued to progress at this speed, it was entirely possible that he would become a martial artist in the future.

“Lu Heng’s gonna go far, isn’t he?”

“With such talent, how did he end up getting assigned to the civil class back then?”

Everyone was greatly puzzled.

Fan Kun explained, “That’s because when his talent was tested back, there was an error.”

“I see.”

“Is that so?”

Everyone nodded. This was the only explanation that made sense.

Of course, Big Mouth Jia did not believe this.

To be more precise, he did not want to believe this.

After all, if that was really the case, would it not mean that he, Big Mouth Jia, had been spreading a rumor again?

He could already envision how these people would mock and ridicule him later on.

What he hated the most in life was people not believing him and treating his words like dirt.

“Hmph, how can it be so easy to have one’s talent measured incorrectly ?” Big Mouth Jia sneered and said, “Fan Kun, did you see his assessment form with your own eyes?”

“Yes, I saw it with my own eyes.” Fan Kun nodded and said.

Big Mouth Jia sneered again when he heard that and said, “Who knows whether his assessment form is real or fake? Maybe he forged it himself, or perhaps you were wrong.”

Fan Kun immediately retorted, “If you don’t believe me, then go and look for him yourself.”

“Of course I’ll look for him,” Big Mouth Jia said as he walked out of the training hall. “Even if you didn’t tell me to, I would still have gone to look for him. I want to see what kind of trick he’s trying to pull.”

As mocking laughter erupted all around him, Big Mouth Jia walked out of the training hall quickly.

By this time, Lu Heng had already left the dojo and was running toward the entrance of No. 1 High School.

It did not take long for him to arrive outside the school.

At this time, the school was still in session, so Lu Heng waited at the corner outside of the school gate.

Normally, the students would have lunch in the school and, after lunch, they would seize the extra time to study.

However, Liu Shiyao would go home for all three meals every day.

Lu Heng looked into the distance and saw that the car that picked Liu Shiyao up everyday was already there and waiting.

‘If she’s not willing to help me…’
