Now Osaka is often called the Venice of the East, that is due to the large number of rivers and inlets throughout the area. Bunta apparently is familiar with almost every one of them in the area, or so he says. I’m a novice, the most experience I have with fishing is River Master, a fishing game popular on an older console I had as a kid.
We ended up taking a taxi to a river about ten kilometers away, and there was a small pier that ended in an open circle, which was perfect for a few people to fish safely. Teruo brought the gear to the center, and Bunta prepared the rods with tackle from the box. There was no one out here but us.
“So, Kouta-han, it’s alright if I call ya’ that?”
“Sure.”
“The trick ta’ fishin, is patience.”
“Patience?”
“Right. Kinda like a woman, ya’ can’t go rushin’ it, ya’ got ta’ take it slow. Nice an’ slow. Get the proper feel of 'em.”
Bunta hands me a rod, it has something on the hook that looks colorful. The rod itself is light, and is the only one of the three that looks new. He shows me how the reel works, and how to cast. I practice it a few times until he’s satisfied.
“Alright, you go ahead now, Teruo an’ I’ll join ya’ in just a moment. Remember, when a fish bites, ya’ just need ta’ yank once, an’ then ya reel ‘er in nice and slow.”
“I understand.”
And so in short order, all three of us are fishing. At first it’s quiet, but then Bunta starts talking.
“So, you an’ Ruru?”
“Yes?”
“I’m kinda’ surprised. I never expected that girl to be with a man.”
“Why not?”
“She’s always had a thing for our neighbor, Hibata Ana-san.” Teruo says in place of Bunta.
“Ana-san?” I ask.
“You don’ t need ta’ play shy. Y’all we’re louder‘n a cat in heat last night.”
I turn red.
“Ah… sorry about that.”
“Don’t need yer apology. Happy enough I’m gettin’ another grandkid.”
“Eh?”
“What’cha think? I brought ya’ fishin ta put ya’ in some cement boots? My angel’s old enough ‘ta make those choices. Ya’ seem a decent enough sort.”
“Aa. Thanks?”
“But like all of my kids, she’s a bit of a strange one too, ya’ know? One day when she’s ‘bout Teruo’s age now, she starts askin’ bout that stuff. Lovemakin’. Says she’s got a crush. Now I think it’s a boy, but turns out it’s that girl instead. Ain’t never seen ‘em together, but one night I’m outside, an’ I see it. My little angel doin’ some stuff together in the window with the other girl. Had me reelin’ for a bit.”
“Not accepting of it?”
“What, if Ruru was interested in a girl? Don’t bother me much, but the way she done it got me a bit upset. Next thing I know, I take her out fishin’ with me. Ruru’s a good angler I’ll let ya’ know. Anywho, she starts talkin’ with me, and she’s grabbin’ a beer and one of my smokes, an’ she’s just goin’ on an’ on about this girl. An’ I’m listenin’ but I don’t know what ta’ say. So I tell her ta’ talk to Mari, since she and her ma’ don’t get on too good. An' maybe Mari can sort her out.”
I nod.
“Next thing I know, she’s packin’ her bags, and sayin’ she’s movin’ ta’ Tokyo. As it turns out, the girl next door got married, an’ I guess the fun times stopped for her.”
“I see. That would explain some things.” I say, as to why she ended up in Tokyo, her prior relationship with Hiromi-san, and her proclivity to women.
“Ya’ saw her right? I’ve seen their window openin’ up from time ta’ time. No doubt she heard from Miyako that Ruru came home. I’d imagine the window was open in hopes of catchin' her again.”
I nod. “It was.”
“I’m not gonna’ tell ya what ta’ let her do or not, she’s set on bein’ yer woman no matter what I reckon. I just hope you’ll be a bit forgivin’ with her when she gets like that. She’s got a good head on her shoulders, but can get girl crazy real easy-like.”
The first one of us to get a bite on the fishing rod was Bunta, he reels it in and it’s a bit small, so he lets it go. Then he reaches in the cooler and pulls out two beers, and tosses me one.
“I know ya’ don’t, but if yer fishin’ with me, ya’ do. I need ta’ know you can break a law or two when it comes ta’ needin’ ta’ protect Ruru from herself.”
It’s a Kirin. Well, what the hell. For showing her dad I’m willing to protect Ruru, I pop the top and take a swig.
B L E H
It’s disgusting, and I know i made a bitter face when swallowing.
“Hah hah hah, good on ya’. It’ll put some hair on yer chest.”
I could use some. I’m a bit lacking in that department to be honest. I’m not the rugged sort.
“What about me dad?” Teruo asks.
“Mm… ah what the hell, grab one, boy. We’re bondin’ a new family member here.” Bunta says.
Teruo seems absolutely thrilled he gets a beer too. I don’t know what the fuss is about, but I try another swig and it’s still bitter as shit. I’d much rather have a cherry cola.
Bunta pops a smoke out, and I’m the next one to catch a fish.
“Oh, a big’un! Careful with the rod, reel ‘er in nice an’ slow, stop, give ‘er a tug… now reel in again… good… good… alright, now lift a bit, and reel, tug while ya’ do it!”
Following Bunta’s guidance, I manage to reel in one I think is big, but is only average size. Still it’s good enough, and Bunta takes it off the hook, and carves a ‘ko’ into the side of the scales, indicating it was my catch.
“I’d say about seven or so would be good for dinner tonight!” he laughs. “Ruru’ll eat two just by herself!”
I manage to finish the beer, and Bunta must be able to tell by the weight on the pier alone that my can is empty, because he lobs me another. I pop it open reluctantly, and the foam shoots out of it.
“Don’t let it go ta’ waste! That’s the best part of a beer!” he scolds me friendly. “That goes for you too, boy!” and he lobs another can at his son.
“So Teruo, how’s about you? You gettin’ any girls pregnant yet?”
Teruo about drops his rod as his father asks.
“D-dad! I’m… not really havin’ too much luck with the girls...” He admits.
“Yer still young, it’ll come in time, don’t’cha worry. Ya’ might end up like me or Kouta-han over here, an’ have a whole flock of ‘em.”
“I don’t think girls are that interested in me… I’m an otaku after all.”
I pause when I hear that.
“So am I.” I say to Teruo.
“Really?”
“I’m in to eroge mostly, but I like anime and games too.”
“No shit? Oops, sorry dad.”
“It’s fine today, jus’ be yourself.” Bunta says with a friendly smile.
“Yeah, though I’m still a second year, I work for a game company in Akihabara.” I tell Teruo.
“You make games?”
“Well, eroge, but yes.”
“Like puni puni paradise?” he asks.

I actually was taking a sip and I had to spit it out. That’s a dangerous title he just said. Full of depraved lolis you can do questionably legal things to. I hope Bunta has no idea about this kind of stuff.
“Nothing that intense, right now I’m working on a monster girls sim.”
“Hee~ That’s amazing! Was it hard to learn how to program?”
“It took a couple years of dedication, but if you want to learn, you’ll make the time and effort.”
“So that’s the type you are into?” I ask him, and Teruo nods sheepishly. “Yeah, aren’t many like it besides Ruru-nee… and they all think I’m a perv for likin’ em.”
“You’ve confessed?”
“Once, an’ got shot down pretty hard.”
“It’s tough.”
“You the same?”
“Only for Ruru.” I say.
“Then what about the other one?” Bunta asks, inquiring about my other lover.
“She’s a gyaru.” I say “wavy blond hair, big… assets… and very cheerful all the time. We both had a thing for each other, and finally ended up together. She’s had a bad life, and I’m doing my best to care for her.”
“Bad life?” he inquires further.
“When she was younger she was sexually abused, and I had found her and took her to a hospital. It seems since then she’s had a thing for me, and we met each other a couple years later, and fell in love.”
“That’s an honorable thing, lovin’ a woman with a past like that. Not easy for ‘em ta’ find someone to give ‘em honest love.”
“I wish I could say it was easy, but it’s not.”
“Then that’s even better. A relationship is hard work. Harder when ya’ have ta’ deal with a woman who’s not always loyal to ya’.” Bunta says.
“Have experience with that?” I ask.
“I do. It’s how it was with Mari, actually.”
“Really?”
“Me an’ Murai, her deceased husband were good friends. I was aimin’ for her, and even got her, but she ended up fallin’ for him anyway. So I was a bit hurt and ended up with Miyako. Stupid fool was workin’ on a boat and got capsized, an’ drowned. Next thing I know, he left a letter for me in case of anythin’ happenin’ telling me ta’ take care of Mari.”
Bunta puts out his smoke, and starts another.
“So, I have ta’ tell Miyako ‘bout it. She was pretty furious at first, but it wasn’t like I wasn’t able ta’ just provide for her. I didn’t have ta’ love her, but I ended up doin’ so anyway. Figure Miyako didn’t mind too much, because it meant less time she always had ta’ deal with me in the sack.”
“Have you ever tried it together with them?” I ask.
“... Didn’t work. Those two’re too different, an’ ain’t into that kind of stuff. Everything else, sure. Can’t be greedy about wantin’ a flower in each hand.”
“How about you?”
“A flower in each hand is more than I ever expected, but it’s also the best.”
“Good on ya’ then. Just make sure my Ruru’s always taken care of.” Bunta says firmly.
“Of course.”
“So what’s the best part of Ruru-nee?” Teruo asks me.
“Lap pillow.” I say, without needing to think. “Best when watching the Tigers play ball. Of course that’s how I end up with beer in my hair…” I tell them.
“Lap pillow? Been a long time since I had Miyako give me one of those… Miyako’s got the best legs fer it. Mari’s just a bit hard on my neck.”
I nod. A good pair of legs is a treasure. We continue fishing and I’ve now reached what I believe to be my limit, that of three beers. We’ve caught eight fish, and that’ll have to be enough.
Incidentally, there was nothing in the cooler but beer.
We wrap up the fishing excursion, and Teruo summons a cab with his smartphone. We get back to the house and it’s quite late, though the sun’s not set yet.
When I get in, I don’t see Ruru anywhere, and her mom has no idea where she is. She might have gone to the store to buy some cigarettes as far as she knows. Teruo and Bunta are bringing the haul to the kitchen, and I check my phone. There's a single message from Ruru.
[Precious Lily (1)
Kouta, go upstairs and look through the curtain.]
Oh, is she going to put on a show for me?
The message timestamp is from about twenty minutes ago, but we just got in? Was she expecting me earlier?
I head upstairs, and see the curtains on both ends are open.
I can see the black hair of Ruru just a bit above the window on their side, and a bit of her tiny ass too. I have my smartphone out, and I’m about to record a little bit of this… for later. I imagine she’ll be putting on a show soon, right? She’s just waiting for me…
…!
All of a sudden I feel a pair of hands wrap around me and grab my son. It’s Teta who has wandered into the room, and saw me staring out the window.
“Oh, is she finally with Ana-san?” Teta infers more than asks.
I push record, and wait. All of a sudden my heart turns frigid when I see a figure approach my Ruru… It’s the woman’s lover from last night! What is he doing there? No no… why is he approaching my Ruru!?
My veins are ice cold as he takes a space between her legs, and he positions himself. I see her shift for a moment, and then he says something, since I see his lips move, but I don’t know what it is. It’s enough to relax her, and his hips start moving.
“Holy shit Ruru-nee… what are you doing?” Teta swears then runs to shut the curtains.
“Are you okay? You don’t need to see that. I’m sorry my sister…”
I think a tear dripped down my face, but I can’t be sure. I can’t be sure because I refuse to check. My bag is packed anyway, so I just grab it and take off downstairs and out of the house.
I told her. I FUCKING TOLD HER! Just the woman. Just the woman… and she didn’t listen.
She left it open for me to see her get fucked by another man.
This wasn’t Nakada-san and dad… this wasn’t a few seconds of video before he pushed her off as I’m told.
I.. I’m numb right now.
Somehow I made it to the station, and caught a train which took me to Shin-Osaka. I had ten minutes to catch a bullet home, which I did without even caring. I sent the video to Ruru and turned my phone off.
I.. I’m heartbroken.
My Ruru isn’t only mine anymore. All I have left who can say that, and who won’t betray me, is Kanae.
I have a window seat, and I watch everything move in a blur, as my whole mind is right now. It’s a long ride home, and when I finally get to Tokyo station, I have to catch a cab home.
It’s late as can be, and I end up stumbling inside and into Mom’s bed.
I don’t want to bother Ume or Nakada-san with my problem right now. The only person I feel I can turn to is Mom.
She’s lying down asleep, and I embrace her.
“Kouta? Honey, are you alright?”
(Osaka secret: It turns out the whole Yorugata clan liked Kouta very much, and were happy that Ruru would be having a baby soon. Much later, Teta would take the step and become a woman with both of her boyfriends, and even Teruo found a loli to love. She was abusive to him, and that was something he enjoyed plenty.)
