At that sound, she dashed straight towards me, swinging the sword towards my neck. I dodged, ducking. Then using my right leg, I kicked her ribs. Connecting, I opted to retreat a bit, before using a spell, summoning multiple rays of light.

Launching them at her, I waited for her reaction. In response, she summoned a wall of rock, also making her invisible in my view due to the wall. The ray of light pierced the wall easily, but that didn’t matter as she had already charged at me for another attack. I parried it, being stronger than her.

Unfortunately, she must’ve strengthened her body even more since she started pushing me back. The wooden sword slipped past my attempt at blocking it. In a last ditch effort to counter attack, I quickly twisted my hips, delivering a right side kick which was aiming for her stomach.

That kick connected as well, pushing her back quite a bit. She hovered over her abdominal region before getting ready for battle again. I gripped my sword, not letting the same mistake happen. If I hadn’t strengthened my sword then my sword would’ve been broken into two pieces.

Had the sword been a regular one, this wouldn’t be a problem. I stretched my left hand, utilizing a wind speed which propelled itself towards her, as a deadly slash. To not let her have any opportunity to attack, I overwhelmed her with the same spell. I wasn’t particularly spamming it as I would run out of mana, but I deliberately chose to shoot when she just dodged one.

She easily evaded my spells, not trying to counter attack any time soon. She must've been waiting for me to exhaust me mana, though unfortunately for her that won’t happen. I stopped throwing spells, and immediately charged at her.

In a fluid motion, I thrusted my wooden sword at her stomach. As expected, she blocked it. As I expected that response, I knew what to do next. I attempted to knock her sword away.

Crack.

That was the sound of my wooden sword being broken, rendering it useless. In a sudden boost of strength, she broke my sword. She then swung her sword aiming for my neck, but stopped at the last moment.

“My win,” she said, confidently smiling.

“It appears so…” I muttered in response, keeping a neutral expression.

After my sword broke, I grabbed each singular piece and stuffed it in my pocket. I carried the rest that I couldn't fit in my pocket inside my hands. I will probably take this home or at least use it during class because I’m not wasting a single resource. Plus the instructors won’t mind if a wooden sword suddenly disappears.

There was absolutely no way one could get a sudden boost of power. It wasn’t like she had put a lot of mana towards her sword because then it would have been obvious.

Oh, I need to tell you this so you can understand. Whenever one puts mana inside something to either strengthen it or use a spell. Not all of the mana goes into the cause, it’s depending on how much you control you have our mana. Let’s say you are decent at it, if you put a hundred percent into something, only thirty percent would actually go to the sword. And that’s being decent at it, the mark for average is not fifty but thirty percent.

Going back to the topic at hand, there’s absolutely no way she could have that much control over mana and being this week. Someone at that level would definitely be stronger than me.

The only way to explain this phenomenon is that she was holding back. She was probably gauging my abilities before deciding that this match wasn't worth her time, and ended it rather anticlimactic. The instructor’s said something to the girl to which I couldn’t hear so I left. Once they finished, they were going to find me, but since I had gone left it would take them some time to find me.

Unfortunately or fortunately, another match ended, getting their attention away from me. Walking back to the place, I could see Mitsugi having a smirk on his face.

“Seems like we both got unlucky,” he said, changing his snark to an awkward smile.

“At least you didn’t get humiliated by a nobody,” I shook my head.

Compared to being beaten by a daughter of that Baron, getting beaten by the princess sounds like an honor most would willingly sign up for. I threw the pieces on wood to free my hands. I then grabbed a spare weapon in a basket, and started swinging it. Mitsugi was going the same as I went towards him.

I really didn’t pay much attention to the rest of the matches, instead of choosing to train. We both swung the sword, practicing until class was over. That was the plan until I sensed a presence near me.

“Ah? Is this where the losers meet up?” A mocking sounding voice caught both of our attention.

The words caused Mitsugi to frown, gripping his sword a bit harder. I calmly turned around to see who was trying to make enemies on the first day of school.

A haughty looking girl whose presence screamed nobility, but not in a good way. The arrogant and prideful demeanor of a noble, not exactly desirable. Her curly blonde hair which formed in the shape of drills didn’t help first impressions. When her ruby eyes made contact with mine, she simply smiled.

Mitsugi wasn’t as short-tempered as Lester as he only was mildly annoyed. He didn’t seem like he wanted to engage into a battle with her, but neither did he look like he wanted to let the comment slide.

And so, he confronted her.

“Huh? What about that? Is there a problem you have with us?” he said, keeping his distance from her.

To not let the situation end up like Lester’s I also decided to comment. “I don’t see what your problem is. We’re minding our business and you come here to mock us? Don’t you have better things to do?” I confidently said, not backing down.

“Heh, you really are confident for someone who just embarrassingly lost their match,” she put her head down, making her expression unreadable.

“A—“

Just as I was about to respond, she interrupted me.

“Teach me your ways!”

“Huh?”

“Pretty please?”
