Chapter 63: Volume II: Chapter 29: Umbra

Tilly blinked awake. The last thing she remember was an army of ugly floating spheres raining stunners down on her and the others. She groaned. Her head killed. She hated getting stunned.

She raised a hand to rub her temple. Something stopped it. Her eyes fell to her wrist. Electric shackles attached her to the arms of a chair. She flashed back to the compound, the doctor injecting her, waking up… different. Tilly pulled at the bonds.

“Easy,” a voice broke through her panic. She looked up. Bird-like eyes stared back, feathers peppering his skin. He looked familiar. It took her a second to place him.

“Zel,” she snarled, “you killed a friend of mine.”

He raised a brow, turning away from her losing interest.

Her skin flickered. The panic returned. When was the last time she’d had blood? Tilly scanned the room. Her stomach dropped.

Neons filled it. Some were solid, others flickered frantically, fighting against their bonds until they bled. She swallowed.

“Where are we?” she yelled at Zel’s retreating back.

“A ship,” he tossed over his shoulder.

“What?” she muttered, searching for Jones. Maybe he made a deal. If they had humans onboard they would need to keep the Neons strapped for their safety. Smart, Jones. Her nerves started to settle. Different memories attached to the bonds, sitting waiting for her turn at the blood bank, Renny talking her ear off before his skin flickered too fast for him to think.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“Where you wanted,” Zel told her from the door, “home.” He met her eye, a cruel smile spread across his face. “Johnson wants the world to know how dangerous you are.”

The door slid shut.

Tilly fought against her bonds until her skin broke. For once, it had nothing to do with blood.

 

The End

Well... it's happened. After two months of posting every day, I've almost caught up with my backlog!  I just wanted to give everyone a heads up, I'm going to start posting weekly (on Tuesdays) so I can build it back up.  The first Chapter of Volume III will be posted next week on Tuesday!
