Chapter 62 - Dinner - WordExcerpt

Surprisingly, as time went by, people tended to favor the stronger side. They neither pitied the weak nor fought for them. Sehun would probably continue to take advantage of this proclivity throughout the hearing.

‘That officer probably worked hard their entire life, but they made one mistake… It doesn’t feel that great,’ Yoonshin thought. Sehun, looking perfect, returned to the center and glanced around the gallery. His eyes met briefly with Yoonshin, who was sitting in the corner. When Yoonshin acknowledged his look, Sehun turned around as if he had never gazed Yoonshin’s way in the first place and continued to skillfully cross-examine the witness.

Yoonshin felt wronged for no reason. He bit his lower lip. Just then, he got a call.

When he checked the caller on the screen, he made a complicated face. With a glance, he told Secretary Tak that he would be back soon, then he quietly slipped out of the courtroom.

When he reached an empty hallway, he accepted the call. “This is Yoonshin Do of Doguk speaking.”

After listening quietly to the other person on the line, he frowned, looking troubled. However, he sounded as respectful as possible and replied, “Of course. I heard from my sister the other day. Unfortunately, my schedule is full this weekend, so that’ll be hard for me. Maybe next week or the week after… Yes, that’s fine with me. Yes. Yes, sure. Taesan Hotel? The first Sunday of next month at 6:00 p.m. I’ll write the date down.”

Yoonshin felt weak and leaned against the wall, pressing a hand on his forehead. He wasn’t feeling feverish, but strangely enough, it felt hot where his skin met. He couldn’t let the other party on the line notice, so he feigned brightness, “No, probably not. I don’t think my sister can attend. I’ll go alone. It’s not a formal meeting between the families and we’re meeting for the first time. I’ve seen her picture, so I can recognize her. Okay, then I’ll see you then.”

After the short phone call, Yoonshin let out a deep sigh.

Yoonshin didn’t have any fantasies about marriage. He didn’t even have any expectations. It wasn’t that he was wary of it or avoided it—he just wasn’t sure what to think.

He had vague impressions that he would meet the right person when the time came, and he would end up marrying that person. Maybe he would suddenly meet someone one day like his sister did and feel a spark leading to passionate love. He was fine with anything. He was open to anything. Whether his feelings were hot or tepid, his share of destiny would let him meet someone, someday, somehow or another. However, this was not the way he wanted.

Yoonshin was fine with blind dates. If it was truly meant to be, he thought he didn’t need to discriminate on the method. However, this relationship was one that his brother-in-law wanted, so his stomach felt like it was in a knot. Despite being in divorce talks, his sister personally delivered the photos, which meant that his brother-in-law was genuinely investing a lot of effort into this matter.

‘I have to meet her at least.’

But whether he felt good about the meeting or not, both cases worried him. If it were the former and his marriage proceeded smoothly, his situation might turn for the worst when his sister split with her husband later. If it were the latter and he just didn’t develop any feelings at all, then it would be horrible of him to force himself to maintain the relationship with his blind date.

He felt like a child, unable to do anything. The adults kept their secrets under wraps and proceeded to do what they needed to do while Yoonshin was in the middle, being swept away with nothing to hold onto.

He wanted someone to anchor him so that he didn’t fall over.

As he thought that, a certain person’s handsome face came to mind.
